Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois, by Gus Belt, who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes. For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger, and the term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes. Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.

I’ve just left this location. We had to wait ten minutes for our food, then the food was so greasy that we couldn’t even eat them. You can see how oily the onion rings are from the pictures and the fries wasn’t even filled all the way up. The dinner cost $17 and this is what you get? The dining room was closed and they’re were at least five employees in there… obviously not doing their job!!! And you wonder why restaurants like this don’t make it! ‍♀️

This place is awesome! We love Steak ‘n Shake, but this one in Dayton has, hands down, the BEST service! My husband ordered his meal a very special way, and the representative working the window, Chris, went above and beyond to accommodate. The order was *kisses fingertips* a true work of art! My husband is extremely grateful, the food was so much better than he had hoped, and I’m so thrilled to go home with a super happy man! Thank you!

We started out by sitting at the drive through speaker for almost 30 minutes before anyone even some to us. Unfortunately there was a car in front of us and one behind so we couldn’t leave. Finally someone came on (zero acknowledgment of how long we waited) and we ordered 5 milkshakes. After finally pulling forward we waited another 15 minutes before he came to the window. He just opens the window and tells us the total. I ask are the milkshakes almost done because we don’t want to want any longer. He looks at me like I am crazy and says yes. So we pay and he hands me the milkshakes. Does not say thank you, sorry about the wait, anything.
The milkshakes were beyond awful. They were literally just ice and milk. And I don’t even know what the chocolate one was supposed to be. They were utterly undrinkable,, even my 8 and 11 year couldn’t drink them.
I would have went back and asked for a return but we were just passing through and I was not waiting again.
I usually love steak and shake but this was just embarrassingly bad and unacceptable. $20 literally down the drain.

Drive thru only right now and I can’t fault them for taking a bit longer on food prep (we all know there’s an employee shortage for fast food). They are 0 for 4 on adding lettuce to our Frisco burger but all in all the burgers were good and the shakes…. well, its steak and shake so the shakes are amazing.

I’ve eaten there 3 times, disappointed all three. The first time was not long after they opened and the service was bad, food was flavorless, and I didn’t see a value in it.

The second time was through the drive through window for a shake, Sonic has them beat by a mile both in flavor and value.

And the third and last time was today. While the service is a little better, it doesn’t make up for the food or value. I ordered the prime rib burger and even it was flavorless. The veggies on the burger had after taste. And was just unpleasant. The fries were the only thing worth eating. And I don’t see the value in self service. The prices aren’t any cheaper, the food doesn’t come from the kitchen any faster.

It’s a shame really that this satisfies customers, standards just aren’t there anymore.

Was excited that our town got a Steak n Shake because I have had great food at all of the other ones I have dined. But, unfortunately this one, so far, is not up to par. My burger and fries were cold and not a big selection on their menu as with other Steak n Shake franchises.

I rarely rate a restaurant so harshly but I need to be honest. The service was just average but the food was horrible. Both hamburgers we received as part of our order were inedible. Literally, we only had a couple of bites before throwing them out. Greasy and undercooked. The cokes were terrible. I don’t fault the workers as much as the owners of the franchise but regardless, just keep on driving.

Was staying at the sleep in and decided that since the steak and shake was next door and it was close to 8pm we would go there to grab something to eat. Seem to take forever to get the food, and then found out that they were still waiting on the fries! When I finally got back to the room the food was awful 🙁 the burgers were overdone and the buns were slightly hard, almost stale, and the hot dogs I order were cold, so barely cooked. I give it one star only because the shakes were good, and the fries. But still very disappointed.

This place is terrible save your money. All three times I’ve gone the food has gotten worse . Ordered a double cheeseburger with everything but mustard and onion . It came with nothing on it . I took it back in and the manager went to fix it the first thing he put on was mustard. The patties were squished thinner than the cheese you literally could see through them and one side had been cooked to so long it was smooth like the grill. Very dissatisfied . Love steak n shake but this place is awful we will not be back.

Every time I have went here and ordered a Cajun burger they never put the Cajun seasoning on the top of the bun and they always leave out the cheese sauce that was paid for. They always say it’s at the bottom of the bag because they know the customer will most likely not pull all of their food out of the bag to check with cars lining up behind them. I love steak and shake but the crew needs some training.
