Was looking for a speakeasy in Old Town Alexandria and stumbled across this gem—so glad we did! The reviews looked great and they take reservations on Resy, but we decided to try our luck with a walk-in around 6pm on a Saturday.

The entry is fun and unique—when you walk in, you pull a small flag in the lobby to let the staff know you’re there (a clever touch!). Sophie opened the door, greeted us warmly, and let us know she could seat us as long as we were out before a 7:15 reservation. Perfect—our own dinner reservation was at 7:15 too.

Sophie was also our server, and she was fantastic. She took time to explain the cocktail menu, was incredibly friendly, and really added to the experience.

We went with the holiday cocktails—one even served in a ceramic snowman, which was a blast. (Apparently they have to keep track of them because someone tried to walk off with one recently!) We also ordered the deviled eggs and… wow. Truly outstanding.

I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but I was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is cozy, the staff is welcoming, and the cocktails are excellent. We’ve already made plans to come back—either to relax in the lounge chairs or to sit at the bar and watch the drinks being crafted.

It may not be a traditional speakeasy, but it absolutely has the vibe, and I’m already looking forward to returning, maybe even for one of their special events.

Highly recommend checking this place out—you won’t regret it!

Perfect night- the steak fritters, pork belly and wagyu burgers were better than expected! Each and every food & drink that came out was better than the last.

Great experience for any ‘tiki’ enjoyers. Brandon the bartender was great.

One of the best Speakeasies in the DMV. They’ve recently upgraded their space after 10 years and they were able to expand as well as maintain some of the intimacy they offer for outings to enjoy their craft cocktails. Tried the food for the first time recently and it was absolutely delicious! Reservations are still encouraged to ensure you get to enjoy their space and secret speakeasy concept!

Very dope spot with real speakeasy vibes. Took me a hot minute to find out how to get in but it was super cool. They have so many specialty drinks, I tried 3 of them, they were all amazing! Service was exceptional! Sophie needs a raise! The burger was also great! Give this place a go!

Some bars serve drinks and some are an experience. Captain Gregory’s is definitely an experience. It has a fun speakeasy style entrance (don’t want to give it away). Unique island/tropical decor and super stylish accents/glassware/details. We loved the drinks! Our bartender Jag did a wonderful job of making us feel comfortable on our 1st visit and made some guided us through the menu. We will definitely return.

Really cool speakeasy hidden in plain sight! Cocktails are incredibly unique, but an expertly balanced blend of flavors that you wouldn’t expect to work well together, but they hit the nail on the head! I stopped in traveling through on a slower Wednesday, but can definitely see how reservations would be recommended. Snack/food options are available too and looked delicious. Highly recommend and will be back!!

Went for Valentine’s Day and got the 3 course meal option. Drinks and apps, especially the tuna tartar were great. Brandon the manager however not so much. We spent $210, not including tip on the “experience”. Entree we picked the duck and sea bass. The duck was chewy, bass had scales & bones both were like warm, and Brussels were served cold. Brandon came around didn’t care. Overall not impressed with service from management and kitchen, would skip out next time. Go for drinks only!

I’ve visited Captain Gregory’s three times over the past three years and it is by far the best speakeasy experience in the DC area! The drinks are fantastic – delicious and true works of art. The service is impeccable and the vibe is perfect for a romantic date night or nice relaxing chat with a friend. The quality far exceeds the speakeasies and cocktail bars I’ve visited in DC, which often charge a higher price. If I lived closer, I’d be here all the time. 100/10 would recommend!

I ordered the “tasting menu” which was $49. We have 2 people but there was nowhere in the menu that said both of us would have to have the same thing. The waiter also never asked or confirmed with us whether this would be for one or two. At the end of the night, the bill came out and they charged us $98 for two guests with the tasting menu. This came as a surprise and really ruined the experience. We would have appreciated if the waiter clarified, confirmed with us or said something before just taxing on another $49 charge.
