First time I tried the wings, they are dry. Almost as if they are double cooked.
Second time went for dinner one evening and had the pork belly and a cheese steak sandwich. The pork belly looked like it had been deep fried for way too long. At least the sauce they give with the pork belly is pretty good, so it masked the dryness. The cheese steak sandwich was actually pretty good though. Nice thick steak that was hot and juicy.
And lastly, since I hadn’t tried the burger yet I figured I would try the signature Tipsy Bull Burger. I was very disappointed. At over $18 , with fries, I feel like I was kinda robbed. The burger was about the size of a hockey puck and dry as hell.
Oh yeah, the french fries potential but the are always soggy.
The staff are friendly, but slow as molasses.
They also host game nights and events, and it looks like a fun spot for private parties or group gatherings. Definitely a solid addition to Durham’s sports bar scene — I’ll be back!
My favorite items are the wings, long beans and the salmon philly.
Around 1:41 p.m., I noticed that a single chicken bulgogi sandwich came out of the kitchen—the only food that had been prepared for dine-in customers during that time—and was brought directly to the table of four. I had a feeling it might have been my order since their food didn’t come out together, but I decided to wait a bit longer, assuming it would be sorted out soon.
By 2:00 p.m., after waiting almost 40 minutes with no food, I asked the server to check on my order and those of other dine-in customers. Instead of going back to the kitchen to check on orders, she continued taking new orders, making coffees, and filling beer pints for new guests. It felt like dine-in orders weren’t being prioritized, and it was frustrating to see other tasks take precedence when several of us had been waiting a long time for food.
Finally, I asked for a refund because my order still hadn’t been prepared, and my patience had run out. This was my first visit to Fifty91, and I had been looking forward to trying that sandwich, so it was pretty disappointing to walk away with a bad first impression instead.
Also, note that there’s been some turnover at this location over the last couple years and some of the Google reviews seem to be for the previous place that was here.
