I’m genuinely confused by the situation at Starbucks in Morganton. For over a month now, they’ve consistently claimed to be “short-staffed,” yet there doesn’t seem to be any urgency to fix the issue.
If you’re short-staffed, wouldn’t the solution be to hire and properly train new employees so service can run efficiently? Waiting 20+ minutes in the drive-thru has become the norm, with the line often backed up to the road. That’s not an occasional delay — it’s a pattern.
What’s even more frustrating is walking inside and seeing employees standing around talking instead of moving with purpose. When customers are waiting that long, there should be visible effort and teamwork happening. And even during slower times, drinks are often made incorrectly.
This isn’t about being impatient — it’s about basic service standards. Customers are paying premium prices and deserve accurate orders and reasonable wait times. At this point, it feels less like a staffing issue and more like a management and training problem.
I really hope corporate leadership steps in and addresses what’s happening, because Morganton deserves better service than this.

I’m usually a big fan of Starbucks and enjoy visiting regularly, but this particular location continues to disappoint. The service here is consistently slow, and my drinks are rarely made correctly. Too often an ingredient is left out, which is frustrating when you’re spending $10 or more per visit.
One of my biggest concerns is that when they don’t have blonde espresso available, they don’t communicate that—they simply substitute with regular espresso, which completely changes the flavor. The espresso here often tastes burnt, and it makes it hard to enjoy a drink I normally love. For example, my go-to order is the Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso with seasonal cold foams, but at this store it rarely comes out as it should.
I completely understand that new employees need time to learn, but proper training is key. Customers expect consistency, and it feels like quality control is not a priority here. To make matters worse, calling the store is nearly impossible since no one ever seems to answer, which makes addressing concerns with management even more difficult.
This location really needs improvement in both service and training. Starbucks is a brand I genuinely enjoy, but this store makes it hard to remain loyal when the experience feels careless.

consistently the slowest “fast” food place you can go. the drive thru always takes 15+ minutes to get through no matter the time of day, even when theres only one car. they also consistently hand out incorrectly made drinks despite specific instructions. they should just re staff the entire store at this point because none of their current employees are capable of upholding standards.

We waited 35 minutes for a single iced caramel macchiato that we never received. The dining room had maybe 4 people waiting for their orders and the drive thru line had approximately the same. We had to cancel our order after they told us it would be another 10-15 minutes minimum for our drink. They have 6 employees and two were clocking in when we arrived, which is more than some stores, and couldn’t manage to get us one drink in 35 minutes. The workers making the drinks enjoyed talking to each other and strolling around rather than doing their job. Truly the most frustrating experience.

Unfortunately they were out of a lot of the holiday drink flavors and the sugar cookies. It was about 4pm. We went inside for this visit. The bathroom was pretty clean. The girl who took our order was nice and friendly, as well as helpful in trying to get us other drink options. It’s still crazy to spend $7 on a drink though.

Everything that was ordered was good, can’t say the same for the sandwich. I know Starbucks is popular but when it comes to a sandwich I assume go somewhere only because the bread was so hard and this was my first time ordering there food. The drinks and desserts were really good. The people working there were super friendly and polite. Everything purchased was $33.

This is by far the worst Starbucks I have ever been to.
We came in in the evening, placed our order, and waited 45 minutes. We were never served. No drinks, no resolution. In the end, we were forced to leave without coffee because continuing to wait was impossible. This is not a delay — this is complete failure of service.
That day was my daughter’s 11th birthday. It was supposed to be a small, simple celebration — stopping by a coffee shop so she could finally try her first coffee. Instead, nothing was served, and my child left extremely upset. Her birthday was ruined due to the irresponsible and careless behavior of the staff.
The attitude was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. No real apology, no effort to fix the situation — just indifference.
If you cannot handle orders or are unable to prepare coffee in a reasonable amount of time, then you should not be operating at all — especially not as a “professional” coffee shop under a major brand name.
We left without coffee, completely disappointed, and frustrated.
We will never return to this Starbucks.

I’ve been trying to come to this Starbucks for the past 3 months because it’s the closest one to where I live. Haven’t had a single drink from them. The line is always extremely long, and I wait for 15-30 minutes before finally giving up. Same thing happened today. Waited 20 minutes and was still one car away from ordering, but it was just taking so long and I knew I’d have to wait an additional 30 minutes to get my drink. Going inside to order isn’t any better either, unfortunately. Guess I’ll have to find another quick coffee go-to spot in this area and only get Starbucks when I’m outside of Morganton.

I love Starbucks. I was ecstatic when they were building one closer to where I live; however, the customer service is extremely horrible and just awful. There are a few nicer employees at this location but for most of the employees they are rude, inconsiderate, back talk to the customers with an attitude, and if a customer ask for something they are missing the employees say the customer is crazy and is wrong. The employees talk badly about the customers calling them ugly, or the customer is to fat and shouldn’t be ordering that croissant, and the employees think customers can’t hear them mocking them or making fun of them especially when going through the drive through. When your order is wrong and you tell some employees they pitch a fit like a 2 year old not getting their way and say “OH NO, I made your drink” well this isn’t the drink I ordered and argues with the customer and when you show the receipt that states something completely different than the drink they made they start slamming materials to remake the drink then practically throw it at you and slam the drive thru windows. I understand they are quite busy at times and can be overwhelmed but STARBUCKS needs to have a manager from a different store come in and watch the video cameras inside and watch the employees and how they act and talk about the customers they serve. Then fire these employees and hire employees that are good with customers, even the customers that can be challenging at times. The coffee drinks aren’t bad but compared to other STARBUCKS they lack considerable compared to what the company promotes. For the few employees that are kind and generous thank you because im sure if the employees that are hateful and talk badly and insults customers do that to strangers im sure they are hard to work with and are the same way towards the employees who do their job and are qualified to work with customers. So thank you for that.

I usually love coming here but in the past few weeks the service has been SO SLOW. It takes on average about 15 minutes to get through the drive thru line. During my last trip to Starbucks I pulled up to the window to be told my drink had to be remade because they didn’t make the lemonade right when I had mobile ordered my drink. Ridiculous. Don’t think I’ll be coming back here in awhile unless they change their service.
