I am have been coming here since they first opened in 1984 when I lived in Ft Lauderdale. Now I live in West Delray so don’t come here very often. It was my birthday and a friend took me here.
Also great food, service, and an outstanding wine list. I chose a Hook of Crook Cellars Old Line Zinfandel Reserve 2015 from Lodi. Only $ 35 and a steal.
Started with one of their all time favorite appetizers, Tuna Sashimi Pizza, Wasabi cream cheese, sweet soy, caviar, scallion and spicy mayo . Amazing
For mains, I opted for the Guava Pink Peppercorn Glazed Grilled Duck Breasts, Chive cream cheese risotto, green beans, demi glace & plantain chips. I substituted fingerling potatoes for the risotto. Well constructed dish with bold flavors. My friend choose the Shirt steak, excellently prepared.
For dessert, we had another house favorite, Deep Dish Bourbon & Chocolate Pecan Pie , served with warm chocolate sauce & ice cream. Super and a great finish.
For a memorable evening and outstanding food and service, Cafe Maxx is a must.

A group of us recently gathered together for a “Celebration of Life” memorial dinner for people we loved who were murdered in a car accident. Despite the solemness of the moment, we were given a private room which allowed us to move around and mingle with each other. I’d like to personally thank Ricardo and the entire team at Café Maxx for taking care of us. The service was impeccable. And a few of us happened to be returning customers. And the rest of us, we’re definitely coming back, as well.
Thank you so much to Café Maxx for providing all of us an opportunity to grieve while at the same time celebrating the memory of those who were taken too soon. There really aren’t enough words to express my personal appreciation to all of you except to express my deepest gratitude to all of you. Thank you, ever so much!
I tried to post the photos in a particular order but when I uploaded them it changed the order and I’m not sure how to correct it so I’m just going to let it go and leave it as it is, oh my.

Solid restaurant. First time trying it out not too bad. Good old fashioned for me, martini for her. We started with the caeser salad very good. She had the pork medallions and it was delicious. I had shrimp scampi also delicious. For dessert I had the key lime pie which was good and she had the chocolate cake which was really decadent. All in all solid food and service.

We had reservations for Thanksgiving at 6:00 but weren’t seated until around 6:20. The tables were so close together and if anyone had mobility issues it was impossible to get through without people getting out of seats to get by.
I did let my server know when I ordered my food that I had a food allergy. She did not write it down and when the food was brought out nothing was said about it being for someone with an allergy. I ended up having an allergic reaction to my meal so beware if you have allergies. I emailed cafe maxx about my allergic reaction but did not receive a response.
We all loved our dinners. We got 2 desserts. The warm apple tarte did not look as we expected but it was so good. Apparently the key lime pie was very small but good.

I went here for a birthday dinner with my girlfriends. The food was delicious and I can see why locals enjoy it. However, the atmosphere feels a bit old-school and could use some updates. The service was also confusing — the servers seemed unsure at times, passing responsibilities back and forth, which made the experience less smooth. Overall, the food is great, but the place itself is not really my vibe.

Was a little nervous because of the mixed reviews, but this first visit was excellent! Great service, delicious food, nice vibe overall.
Carpaccio was great, nice variety of flavor with good veggie accent. Scallop appetizer was perfectly prepared. The onion crusted yellowtail was also excellent, beautiful texture and taste.
My dining partner had some allergies that the server and chef were super accommodating on. Definitely looking forward to visiting again!

We had the crab cake appetizer. Then the 22 oz cowboy sirloin and scallops shrimp w mushroom risotto. The corn spinach with the steak was incredibly delicious. The steak was well cooked and very flavorful. The scallops and large shrimp and risotto was also tasty. Great meal although quite pricey.

Ate here for Valentine’s Day. Will be back. Steak was perfectly cooked, truffle goat cheese was the best steak accommodation I’ve ever had. My fiance – who only eats chicken – loved her normally seafood risotto dish that they changed to chicken for her. Carla served us, she was awesome.

The food was excellent! The slaw that accompanies the jumbo shrimp is sublime! Goat cheese and mixed berry salad is bright and fresh. $70 Peppercorn crusted filet was cooked perfectly. Dessert was decadent. Upon arrival, the host didn’t appear for 10 minutes and appeared to be on his phone a lot. Aside from that, it was a pleasant dining experience.

Local…we live in the neighborhood. Been there several times over the last few years, but…. We were seated right away in the bar area at a half prepared bar table with a dirty tablecloth. We then waited at least 10 minutes after being sat before anyone even acknowledged us. Some gentleman came over and asked quietly if he could get us anything to drink. I thought he was a busboy. Turns out he was the “bartender” assigned to the 2 pub tables in the bar area. He made no conversation to great us or even tell us his name. No menu suggestions nor specials mentioned either. It was a little odd, but no prob…we pressed on. After another 5+ minutes we had to ask for the bread basket and some napkins. When the bartender/server brought each dish, there was zero naming of the dish when placing on the table…in fact zero communication about anything. My glass of wine was empty for the last 35 minutes of our meal, but the “bartender” never once asked if I wanted another or even asked how our food turned out. The food was good, but far from fine dining. Tuna tartar app was excellent…then all downhill from there. Beet and burrata salad was meh. The small burrata ball looked like a dry mozzarella ball that maybe once was a burrata but had seen better days. Cracking it open there was no semblance of a creamy burrata inside at all. The chicken pasta was over cooked on all counts. The plate looked nice but the pasta was overdone and the chicken breast was well done and quite dry. I had to add olive oil and salt to the dish just to liven it up. The “bartender” brought us the check before even asking if we wanted dessert or coffee. He never asked…we had to ask him if they had dessert. He brought the menu and left us for at least another 8 minutes. I finally had to shout our dessert order over the bar and other patrons to let him know we wanted the creme brulee. Still no offer for coffee or after dinner drink. A bit of a joke. I remember when Cafe Maxx was a real find. A gem of a beautiful bistro tucked away in a quiet corner of the plaza. The charm is gone and so is the “fine dining” aspect. The loud cackling women at the bar acted like they were at the Briny. At least there you know what you’re getting and paying for. I might give it another try since we live 3 minutes away but not for awhile. Houstons is still top dog in Pompano!
