Our first trip to Bay Bell. We got their flyer in the mail telling about the daily specials at lunch and again at dinner. We went for Taco Tues; 3 tacos and tortilla chips for $6.95. The soft shell tacos weren’t huge, but filled well. My husband had the fire hamburger with jalapeños and a special sauce. Service at the bar was prompt and friendly. The menu is big with a variety of selections. Mexican, pizza, pasta, sandwiches ,ribs and steaks. Prices were reasonable.

We went early afternoon on a Saturday. We were seated immediately and our server, Tilffany was excellent. Now the food….. I ordered the walleye fish and chips. Unfortunately, I picked the wrong item. I was looking forward to the Mac n cheese but it was terrible. Really no flavor at all. I didnt get it. The coleslaw was okay. The fries are battered and were the same as everywhere. I’m not a fan. The battered walleye was moist inside but the flavor and coating was just okay. Definitely unimpressive.

The WORST shrimp and grits I’ve ever had. 3 pieces of shrimp on top of very dry grits….For $16! I would have sent it back but it took forever for our food to come out. Last time I ate there I had the shrimp tacos, and the shrimp was undercooked. And the coconut shrimp was dry.

•••I appreciate your response. If you are going to offer seafood on your menu, at least take the time to research on how to properly make shrimp and grits. Grits should be creamy, not dry. There should be a nice roux- based gravy over the top. And 3 shrimps is not enough, especially if you are going to charge almost $20 for the dish. While I appreciated seeing it on the menu and was excited to try it, I grew up in Charleston, SC so I know what to expect, throwing 3 shrimps on top of some grits just ain’t right. I’d love to come back and try it again.

We have tried this establishment 3 times this last Sunday will be our last time. Our food came out one person at a time with 15 minutes. In between the first plate and the fourth plate our waitress was excellent. She was very apologetic, which was not her fault. The owner of this restaurant chooses to downgrade her employees. Me and my wife have seen it first-hand in front of people, 3 times strike. You’re out. Some of our food was undercooked. We asked for the manager and she was busy. She could not come to us. The waitress took a little bit off our bill. But again, not enough, there’s more places up there with whole lor, better food, and better atmosphere.

Wow … what a find. I have lived in northern OH my entire life, traveled across the Sandusky Bay bridge hundreds of times and never knew about this restaurant.
Great atmosphere, service was spectacular, and food even better. I had a pizza (lots of toppings and still thoroughly cooked in the center) which was excellent. One friend had a salad and chowder … she ate it all. She never eats all her food at a restaurant. Other friend had I don’t remember what she had, but she scarffed her meal down too.

We wanted to try some place different. We’ll we should have walked out when we were told that there’s a 45min wait. So we asked if we could sit at the bar, then all of a sudden they had a table available. My friend and I wanted to try the booze shake, waitress said they can sure them. So me and my friend ordered a expresso martini, 2 waters and my boyfriend ordered a captain and coke. After 20 min we asked about our drinks? She said that someone would have to make it for her. So asked about getting water? She said she would when the glasses cooled down….. What?? So another 20 min we asked about our drinks and water? So she finally brought us water, I asked about my boyfriends drink because it’s just a shot of captain and coke. So she said she will try to make it… So she comes back with it and no ice in glass… Whatever. We order an appetizer witch came out in a somewhat decent time. Our waitress said she would try and make our martini, witch was awful… So we order our food, didn’t expect that it would take over an hour grrrr. When I got my hamburger it was made wrong so i sent ut back! Funny how I got my replacement food in 10 min….. I get they were busy, I get they were understaffed but my goodness…….. We were there over 2 hour’s and the manager lady should have at least apologized and took our drinks off our bill!!! The food was good! But I will NEVER EVER COME BACK! Good luck

This past Wednesday nine of us went to The Bay Bell for burger night, thier web site states till 9PM for the burger special. Nope, only 6 burgers left at 7:15, no substitutions, we did ask. Web site also fails to mention the game night specials are ONLY if you sit at the bar. The facility appears clean and cute for a little diner. Four of us got the special, the rest ordered off of the menu. First, after waiting for more than 30 minutes for drinks as the server had no clue as to what she was doing, eventually bringing out drinks first one in each hand, 10 minute later out comes one more and so on. Mixed drinks are pricy, rum and coke $7.95. Food was marginal, burgers were not 8 oz. burgers but double burgers, they were not seasoned, were bland, but were hot. Buns are not toasted. The “Bay Bell sauce” tastes like mayo with relish, ketchup and a TON of seasoned salt. French onion soup small amount (this was a bowl not a cup), cheese barely melted, not browned. Perch sandwich uneventful. Fries were hot. Waited for checks way too long, finally got up and went to counter to pay. Total time 1 hour 50 minutes.

This place has potential. So here it is, It felt like I was waiting for Gordon Ramsey to pop out and shut it down to overhaul this place. Too much on the menu, need to cut half it out. simple is better, they will drown come “tourist” season. Felt bad for the staff as in only 2 waitress, they were drowning, not thier fault. half hour 40min just for drinks. Durring that time I watched alot of full plates being cleared away, one gentlemen wasent happy with all of it, people across from us was complaining about temp on the Mac and cheese, which brings up our order. My kids Mac n cheese was luke warm at best. Overall food wasent terrible. minor tweaking, little more help for waitress and cut that menu down and you’ll have a great little spot.
