For new customers such as I today, you go inside and place your order just inside the main entrance first then pick your seat with many great views to choose from. Well worth a try.
The sides here aren’t an afterthought. The Collards had just the right amount of ‘pot liquor’ snap, the Mac and Cheese was creamy and indulgent, and the White Bean and Ham soup felt like a warm hug in a bowl. Don’t miss the Fried Oysters—lightly breaded and briney, just the way they should be.
To top it off, they have an impressive craft beer selection and a beautiful patio that’s perfect for a sunset meal. Great food, great atmosphere—we’ll be back.
Make your order at the counter, get it fried, grilled or blackened…
Selfservice your favorite soft drink, Grab a table on the outside deck with a nice water view while you wait to have your meal brought to you. It’s that simple.
Just great fresh fish choices to enjoy!
Weather it’s their over packed Lobster Roll or the Grouper BLT you will be pleased at the quality and taste of these both. Add in the royal red shrimp and the “sweet mash potatoes” on the side to complete the experience! So delish!
We will be back for sure to try some of the other selections like sheepshead, black drum, wahoo, mahi, flounder, oysters, etc. etc. etc.
Everything was simple. Go to the counter and order your food, then grab your drink of choice and head for a table either inside or out on the patio. From the service at the counter to the people that brought the food to our table, everything was exceptional.
We ordered baskets of crab cakes, grouper, and sheepshead (this particular fish was on special) and all come with two sides: waffle fries and coleslaw, but they can be subbed for other sides. The macaroni and cheese and the sweet mash casserole were outstanding!
Another highlight was the incredible fish dip that we ordered separately with crackers. 8 ounces of pure joy! If they sold this by the quart, we would take all of it home with us (not even joking, we took two more orders back to Orlando with us!!)
On our way out, we spoke with Scott, who I believe was the manager (he was so sweet), and we told him how wonderful our experience was at this restaurant, so we feel all should know! Originally from South Florida, it’s been very difficult to find a spot with this caliber of seafood in Central and North Florida. There are many fine dining restaurants out there that could not meet the quality of food that we received at Grouper Shack. We WILL be back to this hidden gem.
The baskets are 1/2 lb of your choice. I got the Blackened Grouper. The wife got the fried Grouper. Mucho serving size. We left full and happy. Gina was a great host. Definitely better than the tourist traps in downtown. It’s a small indoor seating so come early. There is a large outside seating area too.
I had the Lobster Roll which was a pound of fresh lobster meat on the toasted bun. I lived three years in central Maine that offer plenty of authentic lobster rolls to try. The Lobster roll here at Grouper was fantastic!!! Just as good if not better than lobster rolls in Maine. The bun was perfectly toasted and the meat was a perfect temperature. It was totally worth the market price of $39 dollars.
The beautiful views on their outdoor covered patio overlooking the dock and the San Sebastián River added to the wonderful ambience.
We will definitely be back and highly recommend this place!!
