We were taking a long weekend to visit St. Augustine and looked for a hidden gem foodie and Grouper Shack popped up. It was an awesome find, somewhat hidden away. It was well worth the visit. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. Food was delicious: fish tacos and grilled bang bang shrimp pictures. Well worth the visit. Wonderful atmosphere sitting on the marsh. Keep up what you guys are doing!!!

Fresh experience at the Grouper Shack . The lobster roll was absolutely perfect. The sides were made just right as well. I also had the lobster bisque and it was excellent. The Florida vibe indoors and outdoors at this location are superb. The staff were top notch and Mgr. Gina was on hand and made sure the customers were pleased with their dining experience. There’s a nice dock right next to the restaurant with excellent views of the surrounding nature.
For new customers such as I today, you go inside and place your order just inside the main entrance first then pick your seat with many great views to choose from. Well worth a try.

If you’re looking for a fresh, authentic seafood experience with a Southern soul, this is the spot. We sampled a variety of the ‘Big Three’—Red Fish, Grouper, and Cobia. Each was cooked perfectly, showcasing the natural, clean flavors of the gulf. The Cobia tacos was a standout for its firm, buttery texture, and the Red Fish sandwich had that perfect flaky finish.
The sides here aren’t an afterthought. The Collards had just the right amount of ‘pot liquor’ snap, the Mac and Cheese was creamy and indulgent, and the White Bean and Ham soup felt like a warm hug in a bowl. Don’t miss the Fried Oysters—lightly breaded and briney, just the way they should be.
To top it off, they have an impressive craft beer selection and a beautiful patio that’s perfect for a sunset meal. Great food, great atmosphere—we’ll be back.

The Love Shack, I love the fresh fish at Grouper Shack!
Make your order at the counter, get it fried, grilled or blackened…
Selfservice your favorite soft drink, Grab a table on the outside deck with a nice water view while you wait to have your meal brought to you. It’s that simple.
Just great fresh fish choices to enjoy!
Weather it’s their over packed Lobster Roll or the Grouper BLT you will be pleased at the quality and taste of these both. Add in the royal red shrimp and the “sweet mash potatoes” on the side to complete the experience! So delish!
We will be back for sure to try some of the other selections like sheepshead, black drum, wahoo, mahi, flounder, oysters, etc. etc. etc.

On our quick trip to St Augustine, we decided to look for a local restaurant that serves seafood, and a simple Google maps search took us here. Grouper Shack is all we could have asked for and more. It’s even on the water! From the moment we pulled up to this establishment, we knew it was going to be delicious and FRESH.

Everything was simple. Go to the counter and order your food, then grab your drink of choice and head for a table either inside or out on the patio. From the service at the counter to the people that brought the food to our table, everything was exceptional.

We ordered baskets of crab cakes, grouper, and sheepshead (this particular fish was on special) and all come with two sides: waffle fries and coleslaw, but they can be subbed for other sides. The macaroni and cheese and the sweet mash casserole were outstanding!

Another highlight was the incredible fish dip that we ordered separately with crackers. 8 ounces of pure joy! If they sold this by the quart, we would take all of it home with us (not even joking, we took two more orders back to Orlando with us!!)

On our way out, we spoke with Scott, who I believe was the manager (he was so sweet), and we told him how wonderful our experience was at this restaurant, so we feel all should know! Originally from South Florida, it’s been very difficult to find a spot with this caliber of seafood in Central and North Florida. There are many fine dining restaurants out there that could not meet the quality of food that we received at Grouper Shack. We WILL be back to this hidden gem.

This is truly a hidden gem, we thought Google sent us to a dead end. It did but that’s where the place is! The view was amazing, the food was wonderful, and the employees so nice. It is not fancy, but its also is NOT a dive. The good fish is what we were after, not hoity toity fine dining. We appreciate a place where normal people can get delicious seafood with a lovely view in a very pricey area without dropping a gazillion dollars. Thank you Grouper Shack

A great fish basket at a local spot.
The baskets are 1/2 lb of your choice. I got the Blackened Grouper. The wife got the fried Grouper. Mucho serving size. We left full and happy. Gina was a great host. Definitely better than the tourist traps in downtown. It’s a small indoor seating so come early. There is a large outside seating area too.

It was very confusing. No sign or directions. No one at the counter….. asked the bartender do we order 1st at counter or sit and order…. she said either so we sat since No one was at the counter. We sat there for 15 mins or more without even acknowledgement. I was about to leave but decided to check the counter. Luckily someone was putting something out and saw me and the attendant then came out to help. The food wasnt bad just like fast food type seafood.

Family date night and this place sure delivered for a perfect family night. Daughter loved her calamari, and my wife had the Shrimp Po Boy. I tasted both and they were cooked perfectly.

I had the Lobster Roll which was a pound of fresh lobster meat on the toasted bun. I lived three years in central Maine that offer plenty of authentic lobster rolls to try. The Lobster roll here at Grouper was fantastic!!! Just as good if not better than lobster rolls in Maine. The bun was perfectly toasted and the meat was a perfect temperature. It was totally worth the market price of $39 dollars.

The beautiful views on their outdoor covered patio overlooking the dock and the San Sebastián River added to the wonderful ambience.

We will definitely be back and highly recommend this place!!
