It’s a solid, value-driven Indian spot worth trying for its variety and welcoming vibe, even if flavors aren’t always spot-on. Service and ambiance are genuine highlights, with friendly staff and a cozy setup that makes it easy for casual meals or groups.
The menu offers tons of dishes to choose from across North and South Indian styles, and portions are decently sized without feeling skimpy. Chicken momos and tandoori items delivered nicely. The Chicken 65 disappointed though; it arrived saucy rather than the expected dry, crispy version, which dulled the appeal.
Prices feel comparatively low for the quality and amount, so no worries there—great value overall

The food is quite good but having a blaring TV in the dining room is so wrong- it cheapens the experience, robs the atmosphere diners might enjoy on a night out. Quite unpleasant. The owners should rethink that and visit other restaurants in SF to see if they are blaring TV’s. San Franciscans do not enjoy having TV’s playing in restaurants. It’s a misunderstanding of the culture here.

This truly is the best Indian food i’ve ever had. I used to live a couple streets away, and would frequent this restaurant. Every time, the food was consistent, fresh, and flavorful. Tara Indian provides good sized portions, and they don’t skimp out on the meat and potatoes like a lot of other Indian restaurants i’ve tried. A few months ago I moved out of state, and I have not been able to find anything that even compares to Tara Indian. I miss dining here, and look forward to coming back when I visit SF.

We liked everything! Portion sizes are good, what you’d expect for an Indian restaurant, with a great ration of sauce to protein. In terms of spice level, they offer mild, medium, spicy, very spicy. We chose medium to place on the safe side, while you could definitely taste the spice, it wasn’t in the slightest unbearable, so we would creep into the “spicy” range next time. The atmosphere is relaxed, with take-out orders being picked up frequently – don’t be misguided by the looks on the outside, this is a bustling business rewarded for its tasty food and great service.
Why not dine in? The service is quick, thoughtful, and attentive without being in your face. The decor is clean and comfortable, with culture motifs galore (but tastefully).

Came here on a Tuesday night with a friend and there was no line!
Good:
– We got an appetizer really quickly and it was good!
– The naan sampler here was a great quantity – 3 naans for about the price of 2
– The saag paneer here was solid, I liked how large it was since I brought it back for another meal
– The prices are good here, great value and good service, food comes out fast.
Bad:
– Pretty casual place, not too crowded and not very fancy
Overall a good place for a quick bite and really solid Indian food!

I ordered dessert from this restaurant. I had the Kheer Rice Pudding and the Gulab Jamun. The Kheer Rice Pudding was borderline about to be unusable. The Gulab Jamun wasn’t the best but had an after taste that made me eat it even though I didn’t really like it. I would give this restaurant a chance as it appears that the food could be good with made right.
UPDATE : I tried this restaurant again and everything was good. I would definitely recommend trying it as I thought before

Nice and quiet on a Thursday night, not very crowded. Chicken curry was quite good. Decent overall spot in the neighborhood for north Indian food. The fresh rose at each table was also a nice touch.
