My friends and I tried the happy hour and we enjoyed every bit. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The place is perfect for any occasion, big and/or small groups. While we only had small bites, the tempura and volcano roll were really good. Definitely going back to try more main dishes (and the lychee spritz ).

Nubo is my go-to spot for sushi downtown. The vibe inside is always great—warm and welcoming—and the staff are consistently so friendly. Prices are fair, and there are tons of options on the menu.

I first came here on New Year’s Eve two years ago with family, and it was absolutely deadly. I’ve been back a few times since, most recently today, and it never disappoints. Today I ordered the spicy salmon roll, salmon maki roll, dynamite roll, miso soup, Sichuan eggplant, and the Puff Daddy. The spicy salmon roll is my favourite—I loved it so much I ordered a second round! The miso soup is so good; it just fills your belly with warmth and happiness.

I’ve also tried a few cocktails here. Their shaft is delicious, and today I had the K-Town Mule—so yummy and beautifully presented (pink!).

I give Nubo a perfect score. I absolutely love this restaurant and recommend it to anyone looking for amazing sushi in Vic!

Disappointing Experience

First off, they offer a free dessert if you give them a 5-star review. So, if you’re wondering why their ratings look like a Michelin guide, now you know—it’s powered by sugar bribes.
We ordered five dishes:
• Miso Ramen – The bowl arrived lukewarm, like it had been sitting in a waiting room before meeting us. Everything was soggy, even the bamboo shoots (yes, soggy bamboo shoots—didn’t know that was possible). The broth tasted like instant ramen from an Asian grocery store, and to top it off, they threw in bok choy… because nothing says “authentic Japanese ramen” like surprise Chinese greens.
• Yakiniku Don – Generous meat portion, which was great—until the soy sauce tsunami hit. The rice was so salty it could have been used to preserve fish for winter.
• Smoking Hot Roll, Rainbow Roll, Amazing Spider Roll – Average at best. The spider roll’s seaweed was about as crispy as a wet napkin. If you’re expecting that satisfying crunch, bring your own nori.
Overall, if you’re looking for an adventure, this place delivers—just not the kind you’d want for dinner.

phenomenal. boyfriend and i celebrated our anniversary here and i was blown away. we get sushi at their roll & roll location but this was the first time at one of nubo’s sit down restaurants. food was flavourful and filling. staff was friendly and accommodating with my boyfriend’s shellfish allergy and substitutions. love love love. the fisherman’s roll is especially a highlight. although it was stated on the menu, we didn’t even realize the roll would be blowtorched!!! so cool. will be back.

Beautiful, sizeable, and flavourful lunch special bento-style boxes. $24 came with two full sized spicy tuna and salmon rolls, tempura, miso, salad, spring roll, and special appy. We also ordered one with chicken karaage. They take reservations which might be the better plan. We came as walk-ins and waited via a call back list. It was only ten-15 minutes which was enough time to check out the supper cool shops in china town.
First review for me, even though I have been before in the summer.

Everything we ordered were fresh and delish; and service was pretty good. Its not too often that we get this quality of sushi in Victoria. Glad I dont have to travel to Vancouver anymore.

Nubo, not Nobu haha. It’s my dinner in Victoria with my aunt and I ate so much (I basically ate all of this). I thought the place was pretty nice; decent quality ingredients with good rice. The service is just unreasonably slow at times though.

Japa Roll (Torched) $19
Spicy tuna, prawn tempura, yam tempura, avocado, fish egg, japaño, sun-dried chilli soy sauce, buttery mayo

Cowboy Roll (Torched) $19
Beef tenderloin, yam tempura, avocado, cucumber, asparagus, Korean galbi sauce

Yam Roll $8

All the rolls ordered had yam in them; I’ve never had this before (and have only seen it in vegan sushi), but I was pleasantly surprised that yam went well with these combinations. My personal favourite here is the Cowboy Roll because I liked the beef with the Korean galbi sauce.

I also got some nigiri because I wanted to try out some local BC seafood, especially the spot prawn and wild sockeye salmon. I have to say though, that Atlantic salmon is far superior with its fat content. Sockeye salmon does look nice though with its vibrant orange colour.

Nigiri (2 Pieces Each)
– Ama Ebi (Spot Prawn) $11
– Kani (Crab) $11
– Wild Sockeye Salmon $8.50
– Hamachi Toro (Yellowtail Belly) $13

Had a good experience at Nubo! I ordered the katsu don and it was super tasty – crispy, flavourful, and comforting. I also tried the Midnight Tokyo Roll, which was nice and fresh. Not pictured, but I also tried the tempura which was light, and crispy. The atmosphere was nice, clean, and modern. The service was friendly and attentive. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to!!

Nubo is our go-to sushi spot. Their ozisushi is unbeatable, and we always get a combo of gyu, tuna, and their signature Salmon Lover roll. And Michelle always takes such great care of us, making sure we have everything we need and recommending the best drinks.

They have a few good veggie sushi options here.

I was disappointed the menu doesn’t do anything to help point out which items are veggie/vegan friendly.

As a veggie I appreciate when there are some unique veggie roll options. The explorer roll is unique and different, I quite enjoyed this one. The Mother Nature roll was good, but probably not different enough from the yam roll flavour wise to justify ordering it over the yam.

They have a lovely atmosphere here, and a little outdoor seating area as well
