I’ve eaten a lot of great Thai food in my time in toronto but lemme tell you, this place holds its own with any of the bunch. I brought my girlfriend here today, on my birthday , enticed by the eclectic and eye catching decor , and thought we’d give it a shot : in short , nothing short of outstanding .
First we ordered the spring rolls , which were the best I’ve ever had , no exaggeration, absolutely stacked with layers of different textures and obviously very fresh .
Next we ordered the soft shell crab (where else do you find that in Newmarket ?) and were shocked when we were presented with an absolutely ginormous pile of breaded , fried crab . Please see the attached picture . These are lots of fun to rip apart and dip into the sauce, and I love crab . This is kind of like a cross between fish and chips and tempura shrimp . I feel like they may have been battered a little too heavily , which is fine , but we found we were nearly stuffed by the time out entrees came around . I feel like a batter of less density would allow one to appreciate the crab more , and save room for the mains , but great value and flavor and presentation nonetheless.
Next came our main courses , and just wow . Amazing presentation , such bright appetizing colours, such huge portions .
I had the Malay Curry with chicken which is among the best coconut curries I’ve had, ever. Huge concentration of big chunks of tender (I guess poached chicken?) and big chunks of potato and eggplant , in an absolutely decadently savory coconut red- gold curry. It was listed as two Chilis , to suggest that it was spicy , and I was asked , ‘are you okay with spice ?’
This dish was the perfect balance of spice and flavor *for me* . However.
In fact : I asked for a small ramekin of chili infused oil (made in house) which they obliged free of charge , along with a few lime wedges to add on top because I like to drizzle a little of both around my meals of this nature for ‘surprise’ bites. For me this took it a step further.
Now your own mileage may vary but I think this is fantastic way to do things . I know this Malay Curry is probably a traditional recipe and I have no place saying how it should be done but I don’t think the potatoes add much to it considering I already have the rice , which I just absolutely saturated in that delicious curry
My girlfriend also loved her vegetarian curry pad Thai. She loved it, but didn’t go into much detail because she was already so full from the aforementioned crab ! So I can’t speak for her experience with it but the wonderful part is we had tons for her to take home and then to work tomorrow.
Service was splendid , (I believe our waiter’s name was Zee ? Forgive me if I’m wrong ) decor is charming , food is amazing and portions are enormous. Check it out.

They gave me a free slice of cheesecake for my birthday and the appetizers were discounted for 2-4 o clock happy hour so this was even better value. Definitely tip well, for food of this quality and quantity in this economy the chefs are working wonders .

I am surprised with the food and services at Thairoomgrad! It’s my first time to come here and I will definitely come again! We ordered Pad Thai, chicken skewers, soft shell crab and curry chicken rice. They all are so goooooood! Especially the soft shell crab, which I started missing it already. Service is good too! All of us enjoy the dinner so much!

We recently visited Thai Room Grand and had an excellent experience. We ordered Pad Thai, Thai curry, red tofu curry, and Thai tea, and every dish was absolutely delicious. The flavors were authentic, well balanced, and very satisfying, making each bite enjoyable. The portion sizes were generous, and the presentation of the food was appealing. Our server was fantastic friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed, which added to the overall great experience. We were blown away by the quality here. The Red Curry was rich, creamy, and flawlessly balanced exactly what a great Thai curry should be. We also ordered the Pad Garlic Pepper Steak, and it was intensely savory, bold, and loaded with fragrant black pepper. It was the perfect contrast to the curry. Both dishes were flavor bombs, and the service was excellent. If you love big, complex Thai flavors, this is your place! Highly recommend.
