As a Google Local Guide (Top 1%) who spends 200+ nights a year in high-end hotels and resorts globally, I have a very clear set of expectations for luxury service.

Hyatt’s core value is to “care for people so they can be their best,” yet my stay began with a stressful confrontation. Despite receiving 10+ pre-arrival emails—all of which I read—the resort failed to mention a mandatory dress code for dining. After a 4-hour flight and international travel, I was denied entry to a restaurant because I was not wearing a collared shirt (which I do not pack for a “relaxing” holiday). Unfortunately, my experience here started with a significant and avoidable frustration.

I am a frequent guest at Michelin-starred restaurants and, in my professional life, I wear suits or collared shirts year-round. When I go on holiday, I look forward to relaxing. Despite receiving a high volume of pre-arrival emails from the resort—all of which I read—nowhere was it mentioned that certain restaurants required a collared shirt.
After a 4-hour flight and the stress of international travel, being told I couldn’t eat at a facility I’ve paid for because of a “hidden” dress code is unacceptable.
The Issue:
• Lack of Transparency: If a resort sends 10+ marketing and logistics emails, the dress code should be clearly stated in at least one of them.
• Service Failure: At a $1,200 per night reality, the burden of “knowing the rules” should not be on the guest; it is the resort’s responsibility to inform.
I travel the world and understand the “collared shirt” standard in fine dining, but in a resort environment, communication is key to a premium experience. To be blindsided by this upon arrival is poor management. I hope the leadership team reviews their automated guest communications to ensure future travelers aren’t met with this unnecessary stress.

Our waiter, Alejandro Camelo, was fantastic! He was so polite and was extremely attentive to drinks and anything else we needed! The food was excellent!!! The lamb was magnificent and the pettit fillet was amazing the rum dessert was very strong and bread forward but I highly recommend the creme brulee. My favorite restaurant here and I would’ve eaten it multiple times if I had came here first!

We had an incredible dinner at La Bastille tonight! The food was delicious, but what really made the evening special was the service.
A huge shout-out to our server, Viviana, who was absolutely fantastic. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed before we even had to ask.

La Bastille is a gorgeous gourmet French restaurant and it was my first and best fine dining experience! From the candle-lit atmosphere to the delicious table breads and the beautifully presented courses, I had an unforgettable experience at this restaurant.

First, the interior of La Bastille is stunning. I was so distracted with the fine dining atmosphere that the time waiting for our food flew by. Our server, Guadalupe, was very nice, so we came back after the meal to give her a tip!

For all the dishes, La Bastille blew my mind with their assortment of table breads, the beautiful foie gras, mushroom soup, and baked duck magret. Each course offered an experience of delicious textures and flavors that I had never tasted before. Eating here is a must if at Hyatt Ziva Cancún. Muchas gracias, La Bastille!

La Bastille is a must when at Hyatt Ziva. I had the Sea Bass and it was phenomenal. We also enjoyed the mussels and octopus for an appetizer. The service was great. Alfredo our waiter had lots of charm. Everyone else at our table enjoyed their meal as well!

We had a truly wonderful time at La Bastille. Marco was amazing, and because of him we went to the restaurant three times during our visit to Ziva. He took such good care of us and created such special memories.

Great food! Everything was flavorful and tasty.
The risotto matched with the cauliflower cream pretty nicely, and the pork belly just melted in our mouth.

During my birthday vacation from September 27th to 30th, I stayed at the Hyatt Ziva in Cancun and had a great time overall. However, I had a disappointing experience at the resort’s French restaurant, La Bastille. We ordered some traditional French plates, and my friend ordered some lamb chops, but when they arrived, it was clear that the meat had been trimmed and looked like someone had already eaten from the plate. This was unexpected and certainly not up to the standards I would expect from a nice resort like Hyatt Ziva. Additionally, the server’s attitude was disappointing. He blamed the kitchen instead of offering a solution and apologizing to us. Without any doubt, It was evident that someone had eaten most of the meat, and the remaining portion was served to my friend. The following day, we brought our complaints to the director of food and beverage, Ignacio, who apologized and gave us his business card in case we decide to return to the resort in the future.

Most definitely the best restaurant on the resort! Make sure you are dressed in business casual or they won’t let you in. This place gets really busy so expect a wait as well.

The food was fresh and flavorful. And make sure you save room for desserts.

Located in the Hyatt Ziva Cancún All inclusive resort: for resort members only.
Food was fantastic!! Service here at the resort is always excellent so expect nothing less, this is the only restaurant at the resort that requires a collared shirt for men *has a slightly more formal dress code than the others*
The best espresso martinis we had were here as well! Breads and butter for the table. We tried the mussels & foie gras: if you enjoy those things I reccomend. The French onion soup was delishhhhhhh as well and shareable if you just want a taste.
We all ended up getting the filet as entrée, which was perfectly cooked. Chocolate mousse and flambé for dessert( with a spectacular show for the flambé) Overall a 10/10, I’ll definitely be back here at my next stay. – food guide & content creator
