As a picky eater, the food was great I felt the proteins were lacking in sauce and should’ve gotten extra but it was my first time. The meal did come with a cup of each sauce but for me it needed more. The spam masubi are enormous but delicious and great if you enjoy ample rice.

The mixed plate is excellent with steak, chicken, very good island mac salad, and 2 scoops of rice as it should be.
I didn’t have it yet but the musubi looks scrumptious.
This is the kind of place we need more of in town.

We find ourselves working in Astoria and on the coast quite frequently. Both of us have family history in the town too, making it an easy second “home.”
We are always looking for new places to try during our work trips, and one day, we found Local Boy Grindz. This little food truck right on HWY 30 in Astoria has the best Hawaiian Plate Lunch around. A combo plate with the buttery steak, tender chicken, furikake seasoned rice, the best Mac Salad you’ll ever taste, and our new favorite snack, musubi!
When in Astoria, do yourself a favor and give these grindz a try!

Fantastic food. The sauces were so delicious. Mac salad is top notch. I had the kalua pork which was so rich, and flavorful. And the kalbi ribs. They were juicy and cooked to perfection. The location has a parking lot right off the main street. Excellent food. Thank you so much.

I am an out-of-towner who worked in Astoria for 6 months. With a lot of food options in town, TUIMATO HAWAIIAN BBQ was my go-to spot for food. Poke bowl and short rib plate are absolutely the best. Great mac salad also. Great prices and portions. Family-owned/run from Hawaii, really authentic and flavorful. Some often the best Hawaiian BBQ I’ve had anywhere, including in Hawaii. My favorite food spot in town.

Short cook time, huge portions, FANTASTIC flavor, AND at a GREAT price for the quality of food you get! (The best Mac Salad I’ve ever tasted)!
You can’t go wrong with any of the options, but 100% recommend starting with the mixed plate to get the best flavor combo to decide your favorite! (It’s hard to pick).
My husband and I are huge lovers of this food truck and will be by regularly!

Local Boy is… fine. Every couple of months I will stop by and grab a plate of Kalua or Huli Huli, and each time I’m a little disappointed. The chicken is almost always way overcooked and the Kalua that gets served up is usually roughly half inedible fat. The parts that are edible are great, but with another authentic Hawaiian cart in town now, I’m not sure how many more times I’ll give Local Boy a shot.

Got the Huli Huli chicken and dad got the teriyaki chicken. Chicken was raw and unseasoned, mac salad was okay needed salt. Staff was upset after saying the chicken was raw and showed to them. Do not recommend.

Easily the best Hawaiian BBQ I have ever had! The flank steak is tender and has amazing flavor! The rice is lovely and the macaroni is dangerously delicious, gotta be careful it’s hard to resist eating your body weights worth! 1000/10 I’d recommend stopping there whenever you’re in town!
