We like the soup, the fried prawns, stir-fry shredded chicken with vegetables & fish sauce and stir-fry vegetables with fish sauce.
The other food items were too bland or too salty or too oily.
The staff are wonderful, friendly, and very hospitable. We had an issue with our card resulting in a double charge, and as soon as we told them the issue, they wasted no time resolving it and apologizing. Thank you, Astra!
The vibe is wonderful, especially if you sit on the patio out back with views of the city, mountains, and, for us, the setting sun.
Overall, I would return to Chefchaouen just to eat here again. It was my husband’s first time (then second and third time) eating Chinese food and he fell in love with it. If I could rate higher than 5 stars, I would!
The place is not clean at all— if you’re worried about that I’d skip this place. The tables were sticky, the kitchen looks and smells funky, and a cat was walking out of the kitchen with a big piece of fish or chicken in its mouth the first time I came here. At home that probably would’ve been cause enough to walk right back out – that and the fact that it was dinner time and the restaurant was completely empty – but I was craving Chinese food and took a risk.
I’d come back a third time if I were to return to Chefchaouen, and I definitely can’t say that about anywhere else I ate or even just had a coffee. This is not great Chinese food by any stretch, but it hits if you’re craving it, and the flavor and spice level were perfect.
I’ll update this review if needed in a while: I’m writing this while waiting for my Kung Pao chicken on my second visit.
UPDATE: just had to knock them down a star. So the first time I ordered it without onions and it was so full of onions I couldn’t believe it. Today I stressed it multiple times, and they recognized me from yesterday, so they sort of laughed and repeated no onions. but this time they brought it, and it was only chicken and sauce. No vegetables at all, and no peanuts. They took no onions to such an extreme that I’m surprised the still gave me chicken! When I mentioned it to the waiter, he brought me a little bowl of uncooked peanuts to pour into my Kung Pao chicken.
Therefore, sadly, I have changed my mind: I would not come back despite the adage that the third time is a charm
Highly recommend the green beans and eggplant dish, so fragrant and texture was amazing (large portion). Also recommend the beef noodles (portion smaller) and tomato egg noodles (bigger portion). We also got the braised beef (bigger portion) and that was really good too.
After 2 weeks in Morocco eating countless tajines and couscouses, like most of tourist we were craving for something different. So glad we chosen this place. We leave in London and eaten in lots of Chinese restaurants, but this one is amazing. We had spicy aubergines, vegan spicy oil noodles most amazing tofu and delicious prawns. Each dish was fabulous. Only “complain”, portions very big, we ordered 4 dishes and it was difficult to eat it all. 2 dishes would be enough.
Very good value for money too
The food is very well prepared and for sure by a true and authentic Chinese chef.
I honestly was skeptical about visiting a Chinese restaurant in a small town like Chefchaouen but this is brilliant
