Brian McDermott had a passion for working in restaurants and The Original Pancake House was a perfect fit. After years of experience in the industry, he realized he wanted an Original Pancake House of his own. In 1986, Brian McDermott brought the breakfast franchise to Indianapolis, Indiana. Many of the items listed on our Kid’s Menu reference the historic train station. Since 1996, The Original Pancake House in Indianapolis has been closed, but Brian and his family have worked hard to keep their locations (Indianapolis, Fishers and Noblesville) running smoothly. His wife Charlene, daughter Colleen and son Andrew are devoted to keeping The Original Pancake House a part of Indianapolis’s history and your favorite breakfast restaurant!

Signature pancakes & other American breakfast classics all day in a casual setting.

This was our first visit. There’s a sign on the door that says to check in at the front. We walk in, there’s a line waiting for the front or so we thought, so we just stood and waited. There is a rope scansion that divides the area – the other side is clearly the exit. After waiting a while, come to find out, we need to step over the rope to go up front and put our name in then go back in line. Not the most sensical system.

The booth we were seated at was fine except that the sun was streaming in – hot and blinding. I had to stand on the bench to reach the pulleys but they didn’t close the blinds. The other set of pulleys were at the table next to us where there were people eating and we didn’t want to disturb them. When those folks left, we asked a waitress to close them, she didn’t know how, had to go through several waitresses until someone knew what to do (how to close them).

The food was good. I had the veggie eggs Benedict with potatoes and pancakes. My husband had biscuits and gravy. The pancakes or syrup had an interesting flavor we couldn’t put our finger on.

The food here was amazing! I ordered the Apple Pancake, which was cooked perfectly with a rich cinnamon flavor and soft texture. I would’ve preferred a little more crisp on the edges for contrast, but it was still delicious and full of flavor.

The fresh bacon completely made up for it—some of the best I’ve had in a long time. It was thick, crispy, and cooked just right. The breakfast burrito was great too, and the potatoes on the side were seasoned and cooked perfectly.

The staff were friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Overall, this is a great spot for a quality breakfast in the Indy- Noblesville area. Highly recommend checking it out!

I have not been to this place in a decade… but my have things changed. I understand there’s inflation, but food here is way over priced… $7.29 for 4 pieces of bacon? Insane… most meals were close to $20/person. Almost $4 for 1 single egg.

Seating and ordering went just fine! The building is starting to run down, glass panes at the top, most were completely cracked (above customer seating!)

When food arrived, both mine and my wife’s potatoes were ice cold. It took forever to get waitresses attention to get new ones , not because it was busy , but because they were always away from the tables and hanging around behind counter area , not checking on how food was after given to us. When we finally told them about the potatoes, they were replaced extremely fast , but then 50-60% of the new potatoes were not even cooked, hot but not cooked through.

Service , as stated, was friendly, but lacking especially for paying over $50 for 2 people….

Did a pickup order which went smooth. But the pricing on the pictures in the menu tab are pretty outdated so that was a surprise when I found out how much everything actually cost. So I would recommend going to the website in the overview, click the order link up top, choose the correct location, and then you should see accurate pricing. Despite that, the food was actually pretty good. Got the biscuits and gravy, some chocolate chip pancakes and some sides. The eggs however, weren’t anything to write home about. The pancakes were really good and the biscuits and gravy were good. When picking up the food, the restaurant had a great vibe inside and was super busy.

Food is excellent here. Servers are friendly and efficient. My only complaint is the prices are a little bit high and if you don’t want the mountains of food that are given in a serving, there are no senior menus where you can get smaller portions.

I wanted to reach out and share my experience from my first visit to The Original Pancake Spot.

It was a very nice and quiet place. Even though the restaurant was quite busy, it did not take long at all to get our food. I ordered the strawberry pancakes, eggs, and chicken sausage, and everything was served good and hot.

1/22/26 just after 1:00pm. One of two tables in the restaurant. Hostess did not pay attention to the dirty booth in which we were sat. We cleaned it ourselves, enough to be comfortable. Server was inattentive, as we sat waiting for the opportunity to ask for a box and the check, for about a long as it took for us to finish our meal.

Food and atmosphere are always great! But the service quality seems to have declined.

Hopefully, next visit will be different.

This is our 2nd time to visit since the new service concept went into effect – not good. We had 1 person take our order, another to bring our drinks, another to bring our food. No coffee refills until we were ready to leave. No one checked to see if we needed anything (more syrup for pancakes). The reality is no personal service as in the past. Also, there was a sign posted to check in with desk, but there is no way to get to the desk, except go over the roping, as there were many people in line?

Went as a huge party and overall was good. Got the omelet and the eggs Benedict hash. Omelet was very good but the hash was a little salty and too much sauce. Also got the Dutch baby pancake for the entire table but it was barely touched bc it was undercooked and had no flavor. Overall decent place
