I had a great experience with Sugar from the heart! I had a very specific idea of what I wanted and sent a couple reference photos. The theme was “Death to my Thirties” and I wanted a dark, gothic, and elegant vibe. They created a beautiful cake and helped me choose the best flavor combo. Everyone loved the cake and it definitely made the impact I wanted for the party. The pricing was very fair and I couldn’t have been more happy with the results! Highly recommend!

The photo says it all! My mom ordered a custom cake for my baby shower and the design was so impressive my guests hesitated to eat it. Absolutely delicious cake. We also got cupcakes impromptu when we picked up our custom order. All of them were delicious. The baker even helped us carry everything to our car!

EDIT: Besides just this public response, the owner/baker emailed me with the same energy, genuinely apologetic and sweet. I did receive my refund. I am not upset anymore, but I will still leave this review up as proof that they have stellar customer service.
So, I’m going to start with the positives first.
The positives: the cake tasted really good and the cake itself was tender and moist. Frosting was a bit too sweet, but that’s to be expected with American buttercream. No docked points for that. It really was delicious.
Now onto the bad parts.
I ordered a vintage heart cake, and at first glance, it was really pretty! However, once I took a closer look, the piping looked…rushed. The piped heart at the pointy part of the cake wasn’t centered, and in several places it looked like the patterns were unfinished. On top of that, I had clearly stated in my email that it was my birthday cake for my 30th birthday, and when I went to pick it up, it had the number 33 on it. The sweet boy at the register, who no doubt is not trained in cake decorating, fixed it for me with fondant. It was probably the ugliest part of the cake, but it was the part that I loved the most, because he made me feel seen. He was super apologetic and gave me a free cupcake for my troubles. He’s the only reason I’m giving 3 stars.
The final nail in the coffin that made me cry on my birthday? The cake arrived SUPER smushed. Not completely, but the already sloppy frosting was further smeared by the sides of the box. This was because the cake board that was used was WAY too small. There wasn’t any border of cake board around it to block it from hitting the sides of the box. I was very careful with it too, and it still got hopelessly smeared. Overall it just seemed like either the baker was having a bad day or just…didn’t care about my cake at all. Everyone I showed it to said it looked like a $30 cake at most, not a $75 one.
It all just made me really, really sad. I had bought this as a big treat for myself for my milestone birthday. I wasn’t able to spend it with what little friends I have, and I’m estranged from my sister who used to do my birthdays for me. So that cake was the one thing I was looking forward to. I’m just…sad.

I ordered a custom unicorn cake and there aren’t enough words to express how perfect it was. Not only was it gorgeous but it was absolutely delicious. I have bought cupcakes from them in the past that were also incredible. From the minute you walk in you can tell how much they love baking and it shows in their products. Everyone that works there is incredibly friendly and helpful. This is by far the best bakery I have ever been to and I will never go anywhere else.

This is my second time ordering a custom birthday cake from this bakery and I am blown away again. They are so creative here and make sure you have an almost identical replica of the cake you show them. Not only are the cakes amazing in design, but they taste delicious! So fresh and light. Everyone loved it, especially my daughter. Will be back again soon . A million thumbs up for this bakery.

Sugar from the Heart Bakeshop is hands-down the best bakery I’ve worked with. They’ve helped make both my birthday and my husband’s extra special and knocked it out of the park each time.

I’m very disappointed in this place. They didn’t have a good variety. Also, the shop itself is tiny and in a very hidden location. The cashier seemed untrained when I asked if they sold any drinks and was only offered water only to notice the sign behind me showed they also sold drinks. We ordered cupcakes, cookies, and macaroons. They all tasted store-bought or box-made, very discouraging considering the prices on them. I would have expected them to taste more “home-made”. I’m definitely not recommending this place and more than likely not going to be a returning customer since they seem to be more interested in displaying items I assume are for sale and decorations.
