Every time I go to Basilico, I feel welcomed and at ease.
Mario and his staff, do a great job and the food is consistent.
I had tried plenty of choices from the menu or the daily specials and the true italian flare is always there.
If you really want the ultimate treat, have Mario make you the pasta table side “alla flambe'”.
A statement of authenticity, humbly serving italian cuisine for over 20 years.
Can’t ask for more than that.

I recently went to Basilico and the experience was incredible. The staff was so lovely and took great care of us. The seafood was very fresh and I had some of the best oysters I have had. The frutti de Mari was exceptional and the lamb was cooked perfectly. The biggest surprise was the charcuterie board and it was impressively presented. The desserts were wonderful and had a good portion. Overall great experience!

This spot never disappoints! Must try in the menu is the ravioli and the any specials they put out. This last time they had a pork chop that was slap your mama amazing! Highly recommend pairing with a bottle of wine. Lastly, if you skip dessert you are missing out on creations by the most talented pastry chef in NJ.

Great service and solid food selection. I did not really explore the menu on my visit. I coveted spinach lasagna on a Saturday evening and it was the closest restaurant to offer it. My lasagna was good but not excellent. Maybe my view was jaded by just returning from Italy which isn’t fair to any Italian restaurant in the states. The prices were a bit high especially for pasta and appetizers but at least it is a BYOB. We sat in the back closed courtyard but the main dining room as you enter has the best atmosphere in my humble opinion.

We had an excellent sat night dinner at Basilico. It authentic Italian flair with a cozy ambiance . Reservation is highly recommended. Please note I was not able to get it at open table but when I called I got my table.
They have a wine list but you can also bring your own.
We got complementary warm bread and butter to start.
For appetizers we got the caprese salad which was quite nice in terms of freshness of the ingredients but missed the balsamic.
Our daughter got the kid’s spaghetti and meatballs. We ordered the short ribs, carbonara and I got the porcini ravioli in walnut truffle sauce. I think my dish was the best. I have recently switched to vegetarian and this dish opened a whole new perspective for me ! For dessert we got the blueberry almond tart which came with vanilla ice cream but we asked for cinnamon. Our server was very kind to accommodate that request. Overall we had a great meal. Highly recommended

Liked the Crispy fried calamari, tasty artichoke heart appetizer. Very good Pasta special (Shrimp with garlic tomato sauce). Average/ok taste seafood risotto entree. We ordered two souffle desserts, one chocolate and one strawberry. The strawberry souffle was good. The chocolate souffle was a failure which they still served to us. (see the photo) it tastes like a soft chocolate cookie. We should complain but don’t want to wait 15 mins more in the cold patio for another one. We did not ask for credit and no credit was offered either.

We are local Short Hills resident and believing supporting our local neighborhood restaurants, however, Basilico, had not been great for us in the past 5 to 6 years, the service has gone down and the food has gone down, from the Basilico that we used to love.
It’s not the same anymore, staff are not friendly as we remember, when we called to make an appointment, the person who answered said, walk-in was ok, but when we came in as a walk-in the lady at the front yesterday at around 8 PM 12/19/25, she gave us a look like you should’ve made a reservation, but she was able to see sit us down no issues.
Then next is when ordering our wine our server had an attitude because my son switched from a red wine half bottle to a full red wine bottle order, when our food arrived the meal was OK but the halibut was dry and rough on the texture so I asked them about it, that I asked them why it didn’t taste correct and the server came back and I said oh maybe you need more sauce, if I was not in a hurry, I would’ve sent it back but I didn’t want to ruin my son‘s 21st birthday and we have another plan, since he just came home from College break.
The rest of the meal was OK a little bit pricey $75 for fettuccine Alfredo truffles and then when they when we asked for them to cut the cake for my son‘s birthday that we brought with us and they said there was a service charge of four dollars per person.
The rest of the meal was OK atmosphere was OK. Our final bill was $320 for three person meal and one dessert for $13 overall the experience was not great.
Unfortunately I probably will never go back to this restaurant even though my children use to like this place and we’ve been there so many times in so many occasions I would really hesitate to go back again to Basilico.
In my opinion I think there are better restaurants in and around the town, we would be better off supporting, like La Pergola or Cara Mia. They are around the corner from Basilico 2 min walk would have been a much better option!
