I have been coming to Kahlo’s for about three years now and I have to say that it is consistently the friendliest service in Church Hill.

It also has some of the best homemade Latin-inspired food in town. I love that they make so much of the food, including the chips, in-house. You can taste the authenticity!

The new Happy Hour is a very welcome addition. From $5 wines to $4 beers and always chips and salsa with it, you can’t beat the deal.

The weekend brunch is some of my favorite food. Everything from the breakfast bowl to the breakfast burrito or just getting a side of California fries is all excellent.

And of course my favorite thing on the menu always is the authentic Lengua. Either in a torta, burrito or something else. It’s slow-braised and cooked to perfection.

The staff is super friendly and I always feel welcome. Cannot say enough great things about the team here.

I was just being greedy because everything sounded so good but let me tell you this is a hidden gem. The shrimp ceviche is the best I ever had, so fresh, vibrant and flavorful. I also had the fish and it was seasoned and crispy, it came with a grilled onion and pepper that I quickly demolished it was so good. I couldn’t resist the pineapple fajita that had bacon in it, one word “amazing “. And, the pina colada was so good… honestly it tasted more like key lime pie but I loved every bit of it! This will be my new spot for Mexican food hands down.

Waitress was awesome great service. Food was delicious and good portion sizes. Some light music outside would be nice it was a strange ambience there with some people under the influence bothering staff inside… the flies were really bad outside and swarming our drinks I would suggest getting some sticky traps or those fan things specially for outside dining to keep them away.

We were spending the night in Churchill and found this spot before going to see the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the VMFA (how fitting!) We sat on the cute patio out front, had great service, some delicious cocktails and tasty brunch foods. The breakfast burrito was huge, as was the breakfast bowl (maybe could have used more egg since it’s a breakfast dish, but the flavors were great) and my daughter had the steak tacos which were loaded with meat and quite tasty. The inside is really nicely decorated and it looks like a fun neighborhood spot to hang out at. We’re not in that part of town often, but I’d definitely go back.

First time here. Chips and salsa were fresh and delicious. Had the lunch texas fajitas and my partner had the torta. Generous portions for lunch and really good flavor. Missing stars are for the slow service. We were the only table for the majority of the time we were there and our waiter/hostess did not frequent the table to check on drink refills or to see how we were doing. The check included gratuity for just the 2 of us, so seems like maybe she wasn’t working for the tip. Overall, the food saved quality/flavor saved this experience.

Ordered from here once and the food was amazing. Ordered a second time and the order was seriously messed up, to the point where it wasn’t edible. The charged $9 for a tiny side of guacamole (we ordered the appetizer) and my tacos had mountains of cilantro all over when I specified no cilantro on the checklist. And they forgot our drinks. Paid almost $100 for a bunch of food I can’t eat. I was so excited to find this place but unfortunately it seems like the food/service is super inconsistent so I won’t be risking it again.

Hand made tortillas, lovely patio. I revisited this place two years later and the food is still far better than the typical RVA Mexican restaurant’s. The vibe is also electric and diverse. We had six different tacos and each one was bespoke and interesting. The margaritas were also a cut above. Thank you Kahlo’s.

Stopped here for lunch and ordered their chicken fajitas. First of all their prices are reasonable. Secondly, the fajitas were delicious. Flavorful and nicely seasoned. My daughter had the burrito with ground beef and this nice sauce came with it. I know it was good because she finished the whole thing!
I also had the lime margarita, that was good. If I had more time I would have ordered another one.
Go eat!!

I stumbled upon this hidden gem on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered the chicken tacos and it was full of flavor. The strawberry margarita was recommended and I was not disappointed that I ordered one for later. The regular margarita came with an edible flower that added a beautiful touch. I would definitely come back. The T-shirts that the waitress was wearing caught my eye. If only they would sell merchandise. The decor was colorful and inviting. See you tomorrow!!
