Social Profile:

This is HIROSHIMA STYLE OKONOMIYAKI CHINCHIKURIN.Hands down, this is the most popular comfort food of Hiroshima. Each layer of the okonomiyaki is perfectly grilled and carefully assembled on a searing teppan griddle. And when your nose is engulfed in the hypnotizing aroma of the Otafuku sauce as it drizzles over the edges and sizzles on the grill, it’s easy to understand why this beloved dish has nourished generations of families in Hiroshima for decades!

Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki (layered noodles, veg & protein) is the specialty at this casual venue.

The Okonomiyakis are very good. I do wish they put more meat in it, but that’s just a minor issue. Waiters were great and accommodating. Crowd is pretty decent size. If you sit at the bar, you get front row seats their chef prepare Okonomiyakis.

The Baseline
The Baseline: For a Japanese restaurant the base Japanese ingredients (rice, soy, sesame, mirin, ginger, garlic, dashi) must be well represented, the meats must be treated well, and the environment must be welcoming.

Food: The good and the bad for this one and I will say the bad is probably out of personal preference rather than the dishes being bad. The good with the lunch special was the Beef Curry and the Chicken Karaage which were prepared well and were tasty. The salad and the soup were both well done and refreshing. The bad is that I am not a fan of Okonomiyaki and I feel this is from preference in tastes and textures. I also found the sauce a bit off for my flavor profile. So I cannot rate it well but it may because I cannot be a good judge of it. I would say pass on it if you are not a fan of fish/cabbage/date-soy sauce flavor combos.

Service: The service was fine the day we came but it was a little slow. My water was refilled and the bathroom was decently clean.

Ambiance: This has a good Sawtelle Blvd restaurant feel to it so you will enjoy the vibe that is in a busy area.

Best Okonomiyaki I’ve had outside of Japan. It’s so delicious regardless of which style you choose. The service is always perfect and the chef’s are wonderful to watch. Absolutely my favorite place to go to on Sawtelle.

Arrived a bit early to the place in the morning before open time, but they still welcomed us. The place is cozy and homey. Okonomiyaki is really good! Takoyaki is great; it didn’t burn my mouth, which was a big plus – the staff did warn us beforehand. Oh, and the staff is cute ^^, just wondering if she is still available for a tea break together~

We got take chinchikurinyaki(beef) and their tantanmen for takeout. Spice level 2 was not spicy at all for me. We both agreed that the okonomiyaki was better than the noodles. Overall good flavors!

This restaurant features delicious oknonomiyaki, pancake-like noodle dishes layered with veggies and protein. The textures are amazing and the ingredients are fresh and tasty. I recommend that you get dishes to share. They’re the size of a small personal pizza and come with various combinations of beef, pork, squid and cheese and basil. there’s also a good selection of entrees. We washed it down with a pitcher of Sapporo draft. The ambiance was fun and casual and the service was very good—our waitress made recommendations and explained the various dishes. I definitely will return.

One of my favorite restaurants in Sawtelle! I’ve been 5+ times and the food has always been good. I really enjoy their GOAM or the Basil and Cheese. The food can be a bit on the heavier side so I would recommend sharing amongst friends. Definitely could finish one by myself though. Also would recommend getting crispy noodles when ordering your okonomiyaki!

Fun place to go to try okonomiyaki. The service is fast and we usually get a seat right away. The atmosphere is more laid back but the food always delivers. If you have friends in town, this can be a fun interesting experience for a casual lunch.

You don’t see okonomiyaki often in USA let alone the Hiroshima style one with noodles in it.
I tried the Classic. It was $16.
The texture of the crispy noodles was spot on. I do feel there is a lack of seasoning for the stuff in between. The one pack of okonomiyaki sauce seems to not be adequate. I’ll ask for extra one next time.
There was all but 2 strips of pork inside. Wished it had more.
I think overall it was decent
