During yesterday’s weekly trip to BA, I landed at Sumo Sushi.
TLDR: Bland sushi, wonderful people and decent prices.
First let me preface that the sushi was NOT bad… it just wasn’t good. At least not to me. I saw plenty of Yelp and Google reviews reflecting a 4 star level, so that was what decided me. But more on that in a second.
First, the place is small. Seating for maybe 20 in a pinch. The people are out of this world friendly, and my server was absolutely great.

In order to get a broad sample, I went with the 3 roll lunch special. I cross checked the menu to see what I was getting, which was the Tootsy Maki, Miami Heat and Angry Tuna rolls. I didn’t pay as close attention as I should have ,as it turned out the Miami Heat and Angry Tuna rolls are pretty much the same thing. Be that as it may,
my order arrived in pretty short order and to be honest, it looked outstanding.
And that’s where the wheels flew off the bus, at least for me. All three rolls were bland and almost devoid of flavor. At one point I started deconstructing a couple of pieces to see what was going on, and there was no flavor of any substance in any of the elements. The crab salad filler was warm and had hardly any flavor at all. The tempura didn’t add anything to the rolls except making them harder to eat. Even the spicy mayo was bland.
Looking back, I’m not totally convinced that I didn’t get two if the Miami Heat rolls, because they seemed pretty much the same.
All that said, I’m sure their food is generally regarded as good by other people, given their aforementioned ratings, but for me, it completely missed the mark. Again, I’m not saying it was bad, but if I lined up all the sushi places I’ve been to, Sumo would not be in the top 10.
Total damages before tip was $16 and change.

The sushi, nigiri, and sashimi is nasty here. I got food poisoning. The fish isn’t sushi grade and they have to use food coloring to make it look pleasing. The salmon is chewy and not cut correctly, you feel the veins and smell a fishy smell. I ordered a deluxe, the presentation is OK, but I’m here for the fish and the fish is disgusting. The texture of Sashimi should be like butter and not rubber band. I paid $40 and tipped $8, I’ll never come back and will tell everyone they should do the same

We moved to Oklahoma over a year ago, and we have since been looking for a sushi place as good as the one we had in Georgia. Our search is over. Sumo is our new sushi place!

Sumo is our go-to place for sushi takeout and has been for years, but we decided to go dine-in for Valentine’s Day. Let me just say, while the takeout is always stellar, it was 50x better in person! I cannot recall our waitress’ name but she was so good! Super sweet, attentive, checked on us multiple times, and offered extra sauces I didn’t even know they had. Everything was so fresh and the portion sizes are huge! They also seem to have different items for their dine-in menu, which was a great surprise and incentive for us to come back another day. Don’t judge a book by its cover, it’s a very small restaurant with only a few tables but you can tell they put a lot of love into their food. I always recommend this place but seriously, this is probably the best sushi in the Tulsa metro. We will absolutely be back!

1st time checking out. Probably won’t come back. Sushi rolls were okay. I ordered 5 different rolls. One I ordered avacado roll that I thought would have cream cheese and other things but just lightly brown avocado and rice. It was gross. Gyza and Ragoons were good. The chicken udon noodles were very good. For how much we spent I would just buy chicken udon again. It was the star.

LOVED!! It’s an intimate spot with delicious food! We ordered the lion king roll, tootsy maki roll, and hibachi chicken, steak, and shrimp. The portions are large and prices are well below average. They are closed Tuesdays. I truly couldn’t have been happier. The menu has so many options it’s overwhelming.

It is not nice nor wise to make comparisons. But, I have to say that after years going to different Japanese restaurants in town which are very good in their line, this Sumo Restaurant in Broken Arrow is top of the line in taste. Small restaurant but well done food. Standing ovation to them!. If you live in B.A., Tulsa or surrounding areas you need to try this place. Oh wait!, they are closed on Tuesdays 🙁

Large portions and our server, Jake, was friendly and not overbearing. We tried the lion king and broken arrow rolls and were not disappointed!

I assumed it was impossible to get good sushi in Oklahoma. . . Until I tried this place.

One of the dishes I boughtwas the “Sushi Regular”. The fish was fresh, vibrant, and was just a delight to eat. If you know what good sushi and sashimi is, you’ll like this place.

My only regret is that I did not try it with a friend, because then we would have had the chance to discuss the quality of the food while.

If you go, go with a friend so you can share the experience.

(Also to the guy who left a negative review “Seng Lee”. I can’t trust your review in the slightest. It’s extremely difficult to eat sushi that’s “nasty”. Poor quality sushi is gag worthy yet you posted a picture of an empty plate. Make it make sense.)

(Also salt and pepper on the veggie tempura would elevate it to the next level.)
