We ordered spaghetti djon djon with hot dogs on the side and a Griot fritay platter with goat meat. The fritay platter took at least 45 minutes to come out. While waiting, we were told they had run out of hot dogs. The server offered Barbancourt-glazed wings or shrimp instead. At that point, I was already hungry and disappointed, but chose the chicken (on the side) because I needed protein with the djon djon spaghetti.
When the spaghetti finally came out, about 20 minutes later—it was regular Haitian spaghetti, not djon djon. At that point, I didn’t want to wait another hour, so I just ate it. I informed the waitress, but she never came back to follow up. The spaghetti was also cold, which made me question what was happening in the kitchen. The chicken did not pair well with the dish at all.
As for the fritay platter, the meats were flavorful, but the rice was cold on the inside and cold inside, as if it had been reheated in a microwave. Overall, the experience was extremely disappointing, from the long wait times, incorrect order, cold food, and lack of follow-up.
Would I recommend this place for Haitian food? Absolutely not. Save your time and go to Brockton, Randolph, or Dorchester!!
The place itself was a dingy spot not very appealing, and nothing close to the rich Haitian culture you’d hope for or what they have been promoting on social media . They were out of a lot of options on their menu, which made choosing a meal frustrating. The food we did get was a huge letdown. The Djon Djon spaghetti was nasty and overly salty ($23 for spaghetti that doesn’t come with meat or veggies is a JOKE), the fish was completely dry, and the Honey Barbancourt Glazed Chicken Sandwich turned out to be a tough, plain chicken breast smothered in generic barbecue sauce, far from what we expected. Even the French fries were bad…how do you mess up French fries??! The drinks were awful, you could taste they were made from those cheap powdered mix instead of real fruit juice. But, the Lalo takes the crown for being the worst thing on that menu. Very bland, very bad, very inauthentic! they couldn’t ruin it more even if they tried.
Customer service wasn’t very good either. the server seemed rushed and was forgetful. Portions were small and prices were way too high for what we received. The overall experience was a 0/5, you couldn’t pay me to go back to that place. This restaurant is a disgrace to the Haitian culture/community.
Also if you notice, all their responses for 1-2 star reviews are just the same generic response. They’re not going to change their ways. They don’t care about quality. Stay far away from this place!!
