Then the waitress shows up… and completely skips over our table like we were invisible. She takes drink orders from both families who came in after us, chatting and smiling away, while my family sits there twiddling our thumbs, menus untouched, no acknowledgment, nothing. Not even a ‘be right with you.’
It was so blatantly obvious and unprofessional that it felt almost intentional. We were left wondering if we’d accidentally offended the seating gods or something. Avoid if you value basic courtesy—there are plenty of places that actually notice when you’ve been seated!
On December 15th, I had my truck totaled and was left stranded. I walked nearly three miles in freezing cold weather with my dog on a leash because the tow truck driver told me he had another call and couldn’t help me. I was cold, exhausted, and just trying to find somewhere to warm up for a moment.
I walked up to Donkey’s Restaurant as a woman was unlocking the door. I politely said, “Ma’am.” Instead of responding, she appeared alarmed, rushed inside, locked the door behind her, and left me standing outside in the cold. I never entered the restaurant, never raised my voice, and never did anything threatening.
Still freezing, I crossed the street to TC Bakery. Even though they were closed to the public for the weekend, they showed genuine kindness and let me come inside to warm up. No judgment. No fear. Just basic human decency. TC Bakery deserves real appreciation for that.
What’s difficult to understand is that the woman from Donkey’s later called the police on me, and I was trespassed from a restaurant I never even stepped foot in.
I’m sharing this because it clearly shows the difference between businesses that claim to be “family-friendly” and those that actually act like part of a community.
Support TC Bakery.
As for Donkey’s, I would never even consider going there or giving them my business—and now you know why.
We also had the Grilled Chicken Dinner with broccoli and mashed potatoes, gravy is optional Everything was seasoned well and served fresh, presentation was on point.
Wish I would have taken a pic of the Club and Chicken Dinner. I did however get a pic of the delicious side house salad (no onions, extra toms) It was so pretty I had to ask who made it
(Joey )and the other guy who prepped our meal was (Stu) if you want something that tastes delish and looks straight out of a magazine make sure these guys are in the back.
Our server Lesley was very upbeat, sweet and attentive. She was interactive with my daughter which made her feel like one of the girls and involved. My daughter loves their little arcade games too.
Overall, excellent experience! I usually don’t write reviews but this place was awesome and the staff made us feel like we had known them our whole lives. WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!
*Slow service? Fast food ain’t good and good food ain’t fast! I mean, you’re at a water front restaurant…. Where are you rushing to?!? I was going to call ahead and order, but I wanted to make sure I had time to enjoy the scenery and good folks. If you’re in a rush and don’t have time to take in the scenic views, good music and good people….. go somewhere else.
*rude people? Idk, but everyone I encounter was friendly. I’m from Tallahassee but I live in Atlanta. In the south, we have something called “manners”. I can’t explain it, but if you come in and keep in mind you’re a “guest”, you’ll probably have a good experience. I got a friendly greeting for everyone I gave. From the hostess, to the bar tender, to the guests. Really friendly people. If you feel like people should be friendly to you because you’re paying them, that’s not how hospitality works in the south.
*racism? I saw that someone said that. Shamefully, I decided not to go to the Salty Donkey and, instead, I opted to go to The Seineyard Rock Landing. I’m glad I did, because when I got to Seineyard, I realized it the Salty Donkey. I’ll admit, I was the only person of color there, but everyone was friendly. The guests, the staff… everyone. I didn’t feel like a person of color there, I felt like a patron…. The same as everyone else that was there.
*KT! My server was KT. She was really a wonderful person. Being there for the first time, she was very knowledgeable of the menu and a great bar tender.
Food? I really enjoyed the food! Nice selection of oysters, I had a dozen raw. Gator tail was super good!! And I also had the blackened grouper…. Delicious .
Come in prepared to be friendly and have a great time!!
