Counter-serve spot for Neapolitan-style pizza from a wood-burning oven, with relaxed environs.

My husband and his family took me here as his parents had enjoyed their previous experience, and I quite enjoyed it myself!
The restaurant is nicely decorated with regular seating, booth seating and gives off that authentic Italian feel. The walls are European-style yellow and the furniture is all dark wood. You can see the staff working on pizzas and oven-firing them right at the main counter. They were kind and prompt with their service.
I got the 4-Cheese Mini Pizza, and it was absolutely delicious. It was piping hot, had ooey-gooey cheesy goodness and a satisfyingly chewy crust. You could tell how freshly made the dough was!
This place is a great restaurant with quality pizza and perfect for gatherings of families and friends alike, or for your next date night!

Smashing Tomato is one of my favorite pizza spots here in Lexington. It is located by the Fayette mall and Dicks’ Sporting Goods. It is a wood-fired type pizza which means that the pizza is cooked in a special type of oven, which is supposed to make the pizza more authentic and taste better. The employees are very nice, and they are the ones who bring your food to you. I have been to Smashing Tomato so many times throughout my life and I always get the same thing which is just a Neapolitan style cheese pizza. The Neapolitan style sauce makes the pizza very flavorful, and this might sound weird, but I like to dip it in some olive oil and herbs to add even more flavor. They also usually have some sort of special type of pizza or deal every week, which I think is a cool thing to do. I would recommend everyone visit here.

Not gluten free/celiac friendly!
While they have the option to use a gluten free crust (for $4 extra!!!), this is an upchaged afterthought as one of the pizzas we ordered had meatballs and after we waited for probably 20 minutes, we were asked if it was okay that the meatballs have some gluten! We of course said no and they were just going to leave those off and give us a plain pizza until we asked for a substitution and waited another 15 min. The fact that this was a last minute catch was stunning for such a highly recommended pizza place for gluten free options in Lexington.
They are simply overpriced and apathetic about gluten sensitivity/celiac disease.
This is not a safe or cost effective option unfortunately. The wait was way too long also, and we got there after the dinner rush.
Lastly, the pizzas we got were subpar. They were extremely charred like burnt marshmallows and did not have nearly enough cheese on them and sauce tasted very acidic. Not worth our time or money and left us feeling very disappointed. Will never return here.

We are visiting Lexington and were looking for pizza. Read good reviews about Smashing Tomato and we both love wood fired pizza so it was an easy decision. It’s on the back side of Fayette Mall near Dicks Sporting Goods, but not an actual part of the mall. You order at the counter and then they bring your food out. You can also scan a QR code and order from your table. I ordered a side Caesar salad, a cup of their seasonal soup, Chicken Risotto, Artichoke Dip and a pizza with Pepperoni, Salami ,olives and mushrooms. The food came out quick. That Artichoke Dip was so awesome. The pizza had that wood fired flavor and the ingredients were flavorful. Found out it’s part of the same restaurant group as Bella Notte. They’re doing something right. This was a great visit with great food. The staff member working the dining room was also very friendly. We’ll be back!!!

Finally tried a pizza from here after much anticipation and it exceeded my expectations! I got a 12’ Margherita pizza with garlic and onion add ons. The pizza was very tasty and would definitely get pizza again from this place!

Pizza so good at a great price. We stopped for lunch today. Hadn’t been in a bit and while I was very tempted by the fall menu, I went for the Capri di Bufala as I was just craving the pesto balsamic duo. My dining partner had the Margherita with classic sauce. We both got the 6 inch pizza and it was a generous and appreciated portion for the price. The service was great.

Good all around experience. Service was quick. Pizza was good, but was a little undercooked. The underside was still pretty soft and doughy. It was missing the crispy wood fire pizza texture. Hopefully it was just a one off thing. I would try it again.

Not much service happening. They’ve converted into having guests place their own orders at the table. You got a pizza craving, this is absolutely one of the few solid places to go!

Had an awesome time at Smashing Tomatoes. The food was super good! The BBQ chicken pizza was top tier! Big shoutout to Jacob, the manager. He was super friendly and made sure everything was right with our order. You don’t always see managers that involved, but he really went out of his way to check in and make sure we were happy. Definitely made the whole experience better.
Overall, great food, great service, and a really good vibe. I’ll for sure be back soon!

6 years later, absolutely delicious still.
Fast and quality service. Amazing pizza (nothing else would matter if they didn’t have this). And the price is more than reasonable.
Best pizza in Lexington honestly. Over this price and you’re paying for fancy tables. It’s authentic-oriented, which is what I far prefer over the traditional pizza.
