Long story short.
Last Wednesday 12/20/2017 we came to this restaurant to have some great steak, but the place was full. We were told that we had to wait 20 minutes to get a table but that was it, they didn’t say anything else. Because we thought it was worth the wait, we waited for about 35 minutes and when we asked again about the table, we were told that the kitchen was backed up. They only had one cook and orders were piling up and that they had tables but our food would take another 35 minutes. We were annoyed because they were not up front with us and so we left.
Because we like this place so much, we came back on 12/22/2017 and the manager (a lovely and honest woman) came to our table and talked to us about what happened last Wednesday and offered to get an appetizer. It was so good!! And we are happy customers! We forgot what happened and thought about what all the staff had to go through that day.
They practiced service recovery and it is awesome that they care so much about their customers. Way to go All American Stakehouse!
First, when we arrived we were asked to wait for about five minutes until we could get a table. No problem. There is a big, glass window right in front of the grill and my son had a great time watching the flames flare up whenever the cook flipped a burger or seasoned some meat. This was the highlight of the visit, for both him and me. When we were at last escorted to our table I was surprised to see that we passed entire rows of empty tables on the way, along with several scattered among others with seated customers. Big, full sized tables, all the little, two-person tables along the wall, three medium tables with tops dry and gleaming in their pristine, unused, not just-vacated condition. I thought maybe they were understaffed or something and could not support opening the entire dining area, but the number of waiters and waitresses I saw standing around the entrance to the kitchen, idly chatting, belied that notion.
The two of us were seated at a table long enough for six people and I was given a menu and a coloring sheet and crayons for the kiddo. There was no children’s menu posted anywhere, not on my menu, not on his sheet, but our waitress informed me that they had one after all and I requested a burger and fries for him. I asked him if he wanted pickles and he stated that he would, and then requested extra pickles. He clarified, as only a four-year-old can, that by extra he meant that he wanted them on the side, next to his burger on his plate. The waitress acknowledged his request and wrote it down.
Soon, our appetizer came out, and then my chili, and finally my food. At one point our waitress stopped by and asked if I wanted a refill, and I said, “Yes, please.” Five minutes or so went by until she returned, looked at my empty glass and said, “Oh yeah! Your drink!” before disappearing again. When she returned with the beverage, she asked, “Where is his food?” indicating my son. I told her that I had been wondering the same thing, and she said she would go check on it. When she returned, she apologized and said that it had been overlooked but should be out in about five minutes. I requested it to go, as I would be done by then and it would be easier to feed my boy at home anyway (he was already half-full from the dinner rolls). When his meal finally arrived in a to-go bag, I paid my bill (no offer to comp anything in an attempt to make amends) and left. When we got home, I gave my kid his food and discovered that his burger came with a single, solitary pickle. Not a whole pickle, not a pickle spear, but one little pickle chip. He was very disappointed.
So, way to go, All American Steakhouse! You can’t manage your floor staff, your kitchen can’t read an order slip, you get zero marks for customer service and you brought sadness to the heart of a child. Well done.
This location is the best; absolutely 5.5 stars!!! My husband and I will continue to come here for our date nights, family events and all other activities in between. Great food, Great people, Great environment!
