My husband and I recently dined here and unfortunately our experience with the service was not very pleasant, although the food itself was very good.
We made a reservation, but when we arrived we stood at the entrance for a while before anyone acknowledged us. After staff members walked by a few times, someone finally seated us and simply said “just sit right there,” placing us at a table directly next to the door.
This table turned out to be very uncomfortable. Each time the door opened there was a noticeable draft, which may be why no one had been sitting there before we arrived. My husband’s chair was also positioned along the path servers used to reach other tables, so his chair was repeatedly bumped as staff passed by.
Service throughout the meal felt inattentive. My husband had to request lemons for his water more than once, and it felt as though once we were seated we were largely forgotten.
Another issue occurred when my husband ordered an additional piece of fish with his entrée. The menu shows that the entrée already includes two pieces of fish, so when the meal arrived with only two pieces he asked about the extra piece he ordered. The waitress insisted that the fish on the plate was correct and even stated that she didn’t think he was going to eat that much fish anyway and that he did not need another piece. Despite that, we were still charged for the additional piece of fish that was never brought to the table.
That said, the food itself was really good and very flavorful, which makes the experience even more disappointing because we were hoping to enjoy the evening fully. With better attentiveness and customer service, this could have been a much better experience.

We visited Ruby Lee’s while on the island for a work conference. It is in a little strip mall & everything else was closed when we arrived – it was rather dark. My husband is super outgoing & was asking people coming & going if it was a good place to eat. Both groups of people he engaged said it was a great place. There was a live band, Target, who were incredible & super fun. The staff was also very fun. We had the best time! And the food was amazing!! An absolute must-visit gem. Can’t say we had much experience with soul food but the whole experience – & it was an experience just not food – was soulful & incredible. Don’t miss out!!

We went to Ruby Lee’s tonight on a recommendation from a neighbor . This was by far one of the best nights out! The staff, Tom ( owner) , food and entrainment was so amazing! We had a fabulous dinner, great wine and left hugging people who just want to embrace joy and happiness! Tim sets the tone with his interaction with his customers and staff .
We highly recommend you check out Ruby Lee’s !
Oh, side note my husband got to sit in with the band ( he is a drummer) and was on cloud nine! Thank yoh yo the staff of Ruby Lee’s ! World feels more hopeful when you visit a place like this!!

When I say this is the place to be on Saturday, I mean it. The service was wonderful. They were able to accommodate a party of 10 and still were able to cater to each of our individual needs. The owner, Mr. Singleton, was hospitable and simply personable. The food and drinks were great. The crab balls and the strawberry lemon drop martini were to die for. The band came on at 7:30 sharp and honey, this is no amateur band. This has been by far one of my best restaurant experiences…and I am from Savannah. This family will be back!

Went to Ruby Lee’s in Hilton Head for my brother’s birthday. The food was amazing, the service was great, and Target…The Band kept the energy high all night. The restaurant has that modern juke joint feel — soulful, lively, and full of good vibes. Highly recommend!

Great food. Great cocktails. Great service. Stayed for the entertainment, which was great too. Food was a bit pricey but worth it. Lots of flavor. Nice portion size. I tried the pork chop before taking a picture.

We went to Ruby Lee’s South last night on a Tuesday and had an amazing time. The Target Band was playing, and they were fantastic. We danced most of the evening and truly enjoyed the energy they brought.
The staff was wonderful, and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the baby back ribs with mac and collard greens. Everything was seasoned perfectly and cooked just right. My wife ordered the pan seared salmon with a baked sweet potato and squash, and she loved every bite. We topped it all off with the bourbon pecan pie for dessert, which was the perfect ending to a great meal.
Our waitress Pattie really made the night special. She was hilarious, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. Excellent service with a great personality.
We were visiting from Georgia, and this will definitely be one of the first places we return to the next time we are in Hilton Head. Highly recommend!

We really enjoyed this place. My husband said it’s the best fried chicken that he’s ever had. The fried green tomatoes were amazing!
The musicians that played the night we were there were extremely talented. They sang Motown and blues type music. The music was loud making conversation a bit hard, but it was so good that didn’t matter.

What a blast! Spent Wednesday night listening, singing and dancing with the Ross Band, 3 incredibly talented musicians. Dinner was delicious too…crab balls, fried green tomatoes, gumbo (best I’ve had outside Louisiana) and fried chicken. Don’t be put off by the simple exterior. The place is full of character inside. Highly recommended.
