1/2 chicken was well seasoned with crispy skin and juicy meat. The green sauce however, was not to my liking. Maybe I like how the Peruvians do it better, so no real knock on Chick O Rico, just different tastes, I guess. The red sauce had a kick and was good. I should’ve gotten more of those. And they were out of the yellow sauce.
I found it odd that they put the chicken in the same container as the salad, which led the salad to be warm and mixed with chicken juices. Not appetizing.
The beans on top of the rice were bland. They would easily benefit from a little more seasoning or just straight up salt.
Fried yucca was fresh and tasty but a laughably small portion.
Overall the meal was fine but just paled in comparison to their competition on South Blvd.
Preface: ALL residents of charlotte NEED to come support and eat at CHICK-O-RICO
Review: Chick-O- Rico is a family-owned restaurant that serves the absolute best Peruvian styled Chicken in CHARLOTTE, HANDS DOWN. I’ve eaten at this place 3 times in one month and each time was phenomenal. I’m not by the slightest hyping this up. The food is genuinely that good, and not to mention FRESH.
All three times I have ordered a quarter chicken dark with fries, rice and beans.
The Chicken. Juicy meat, crispy skin, seasoned generously, and charcoaled to perfection. Accompanying the chicken can be 1 of three sauces: Green (verde), Red – spicy (rojo), and Yellow (amarillo). The red and yellow sauces are made from red and yellow Peruvian peppers. The red sauce is NOT spicy and all palettes can tolerate the “heat”. Give all three a chance, but my personal favorite is the green sauce with its full-bodied flavor, elevating the meal to an even higher level (cilantro, avocado based).
Rice. Nice, soft, and cooked to perfection.
Beans. Beans be BUSSIN. Seasoned and when you pair it with the rice, tremendously great combo.
French Fries. Hot and salted. Crispy outside and fluffy inside. Exactly how a fry should be.
Jugo de Passion fruit (Passion fruit juice). Sweet with a little tang. Every sip is delightful.
I’ve had an opportunity to speak with a couple of the owners, and they are truly down-to-earth humble people. Mrs. Victoria is an outstanding chef that connects with her patrons and looks after the restaurant with extreme care and detail. The restaurant is immaculate, it feels like someone’s home when you dine-in and you can eat off the floors. Mrs. Victoria’s nephew waited on us, and he is personable proactive young man, extremely kind and helpful. The entire staff is super friendly and speak Spanish!
This Restaurant NEEDS to be on Charlotte’s radar, and we need to spread the word to our friends and family about this place and make it a staple in the Charlotte Area.
Much love.

The customer service was the most attentive I have experienced. The manager personally came to our table to discuss my allergies and ensure everything would be handled correctly. I could even see the Chef in the kitchen, and she spoke with us to ensure everything was good.
After I placed my order, the manager spoke to the chef and he let me know that my initial choice might not be the best for my safety and recommended a better option instead. That level of transparency from the kitchen made me feel completely at ease.
I tried the new cheese empanadas they are promoting, and they were freshly made and delicious! My friend had the Bandeja Paisa and said it was absolute perfection; the beans were flavorful and the rice was steaming and fresh.
The lady who served us was sweet, attentive, and constantly checked in to make sure we were okay. It was a true joy to finally have a worry-free meal. I highly recommend this spot to anyone, especially those who need a team they can truly trust!
I started with the anticuchos, which were well seasoned and cooked just right. Plenty of flavor without being overpowering. I paired that with chicha morada, which was refreshing and not overly sweet—exactly how it should be.
For the main dish, I had the ¼ rotisserie chicken with two sides. The chicken was juicy, flavorful, and clearly the kind of dish they know how to do well. Simple, comforting, and satisfying.
Dessert was flan, and it was a great way to end the meal. Smooth, light, and just sweet enough.
Service was friendly and attentive, and the overall vibe felt relaxed—like a neighborhood spot you’d come back to without overthinking it.
Good food, good people, and a place that deserves the support. I’d definitely come back.
