Overall, adequate, though I expected more. Started with the garlic knots and calamari, both were good and the salsa verde had great flavor. The half and half was met with a thumbs up, as was the fettuccine. My son was thrilled with his chicken piccata, thrilled. My homemade spaghetti was where I got lost. The pasta and sauce were really good, but I ordered with a couple Italian sausages…..oh my bleh. Mealy meat, absolutely zero seasoning…if y’all’s chef says he’s tasting as he preps, he’s not. Asked to try the meatballs as a substitute….it was the same meat mixture,in a different shape, but they were microwaved nice and hot. I’ll be back for the pasta, maybe I’ll just bring my own protein. The cannoli and crème brûlée were average.

Ate here after visiting Game Force Boulder with our kids. Food was delicious. The service was good. If you are looking for some want and cozy Italian food, definitely check this place out! Even my kids ate and they never eat anything!

Delicious food, casual atmosphere, good service.
My friend and I went for lunchtime and it was not super busy. They have a lunch menu that involves soup/salad combos as well as smaller portions. We both got eggplant parm. She got the dinner, I got the sandwich with salad. Both were delicious! It was a little too easy to overeat!

I wish I could give higher than 5 stars. I’m not from Boulder but I do visit frequently. I was blown away by the food quality and price. I brought my 2 grandsons, ages 1 1/2 and 4. They had pasta and I was super impressed by the FRESHLY HOME MADE pasta!!! I eat Keto and was blown away by the zoodle veggie mixture that they can sub for ANY pasta dish on the menu!!! The food was delicious, the service was excellent and they had colored pencils instead of crayons for the kids. Way better in my mind. Anyway, I will for sure come back next time I’m in town.

Objectively, it was tasteless. The pasta was overcooked, the creamy sauce was overly sour. If you don’t know how to make a Caesar salad, then leave it off the menu and save yourself the embarrassment—there was almost no dressing, and skimped on the cheese. Unfortunately, we were disappointed.

We’ve been coming to the Gondolier since the 80s, and this is the first time I’ve been disappointed with a meal. We ordered take-out and brought dinner over for our son and his roommates, but unfortunately, the noodles were very mushy and the meatballs were quite small for the price. It just didn’t feel like the same quality we’ve always loved. Pretty disappointing—especially after spending over $100 on take-out.

It was an average Italian restaurant. The caprese salad was not a normal one as it was the tomato and mozzarella on top of a big plate of lettuce which is not the traditional caprese. The spicy Tuscan was very good and I was happy to be able to substitute the penne with fettuccine. It was odd that many of their pasta dishes were served with penne. The cannoli were a bit disappointing. There were hardly any chocolate chips and there were cherries served on top which was a first for me. With all of the chocolate and cherry sauce they were hard to eat, but the cream was decent. Overall, if you are just looking for a basic Italian restaurant then this is good enough.

I came here Halloween night with my fiancé, the atmosphere is wonderful but the service is terrible. We finally got our server after about 15 mins, after that we were only checked on once in our hour sit here. Food was okay, not any flavor but not bad. I’m not sure how they managed to make shrimp dry but that was also an aspect. Overall it was okay, definetly won’t be coming back due to them adding a 6 dollar charge for putting chicken on Alfredo…

Dinner was great. I had the mushroom ravioli. It was unreal! My mom had the carbonara, and it was bland. It’s missing something; it needs to be more decadent. She also had the beet salad which she loved. Clams were superb and the tomato soup gorganzala was excellent. I will be back!

I don’t go to the Gondolier often, but have dined there several times a year, beginning with their location on 28th & Valmont in Boulder. (I believe they originally were located on N. Broadway, but that was before my time.)

My opinion is that they always have been a good value for the money. Their food is fresh and prepared daily. While not “inexpensive” (what establishment in the USA is anymore?) a person can dine there for a good “non-chain meal” without breaking the bank.

I miss their “Tuesday/Wednesday all-you-can-eat spaghetti specials” for only $5 – $7 (I don’t recall the exact price) at the 28th St. location. They do, however, still have a “$10 for a large bowl of pasta” and “1/2 carafe of house wine for $7” on Thursdays (as of Nov. 2025). That’s still a pretty good deal.

My only complaint (were I to call it that) is the casual satirically challenged dressing style of the staff. After living in Europe for years, I am used to restaurant staff “dressing appropriately” for evening dining. (Black slacks and white shirt are fine.) The waiter during my most resent trip to the Gondolier was wearing jeans and some kind of “rock t-shirt”. Not acceptable.

The quality of service also can vary widely from visit to visit. More consistently on that level would be appreciated.

Perhaps it is just me, but I want to have just “a hint of elegance” when I dine at a “sit down restaurant”. That element is currently lacking at the Gondolier due to that casual dress of the employees. I don’t want to feel like I’m dining in a “pub”.

That said, the interior, while not “elegant”, it is sufficiently “upscale” for a cozy yet classy experience.

The bottom line is that the Gondolier continues to be a (relative) good bargain for (mostly) good quality food. If they just had a “staff dress code” and a bit more consistently in service, I would give them 5-stars.
