Whip In has been a locally owned, Austin staple since the 1980s. This week I visited for dinner for the first time in many years and can confirm that this place is still an excellent option for high quality Indian food. My chicken tikka masala was perfect, no weird bits in the chicken and the chili paneer was super crispy and flavorful. This is the best garlic naan bread I’ve ever had. Great meal, great price

I appreciated getting a good wine at easy in and out location. I returned for a late lunch on a Tuesday. Very chill atmosphere, with comfortable seating choices inside and out. I enjoyed the sweet Merian Hive Blackberry Mead. The lamb Somosa was huge with a comforting flacky crust. I want to come back for live music.

Great Indian food and beer selection. Also good place for pub trivia. Businesses like whip on are the last of what remains of the old Austin. Highly recommend

This place is interesting in the best way possible. The vibe is like Metallica meets Indian food meets craft beer meets ice house, and somehow it totally works. Casual, loud music, fun, and definitely memorable!

We had the Vindaloo Paneer lunch special ($11.99) and the Chicken Tikka Kebab (listed on the menu as Tandoori Chicken, $14), and each was fantastic.

The Vindaloo Paneer had the perfect heat level. It was super flavorful and was a generous serving size. It included plenty of rice.

The Chicken Tikka Kebab was thigh meat, and it was cooked perfectly. It came out sizzling hot and was well seasoned and not even close to being dry. It was very juicy.

The Jalapeño Naan ($6) was a standout. Great spice, awesome flavor. I’m definitely ordering that again!

Their wide selection of draft beers (averaging around $7) is a big bonus for you drunkards out there.

Overall: cool atmosphere, great food, and solid value. Would absolutely come back.

Don’t let the exterior fool you, this is some of the best Indian food I’ve had and honestly such a chill love to hang. Service was great and drafts were fantastic!

I highly recommend this place if you are looking for fresh , delicious Indian food. And or hanging out with friends. They have a large beer on tap selection and 6 packs to go as well. This place has been here for a long time. The owners now are the latest owners and I think they’re doing a great job. They have an outdoor area, patio and stage and they have live music sometimes. I had Saag lamb (spinach ),order of Samosas, and an order of Naan and a tap beer.I spent 40 bucks but I had enough food for three meals:)

Wow this place is so different because it’s on the side of a highway, looks like an old liquor store and serves Indian food with epic paintings of Ganesh on the side patio and on the inside you feel like you’re in an old musty pub. Need I say more? Have I completely sold this place!? Good, come with me on my fantastic Whip in adventure.

It wasn’t my idea to come here, it was my friends because I have genius friends. They were always intrigued by the strange looking Whip In sign off the side of the highway, beconing people to try their Indian food. Who wouldn’t be intrigued? So we arrived, ordered some beers (they have a wide variety!) and sat outside on the patio. I’m kicking myself now for not taking some great pictures of Ganesh – next time.

After a while we decide to order some food and settle on:

paneer tikka – quite nice, it comes with a sauce and lime which compliments the flavour
bhindi masala – mild with nice flavor. I didn’t get the slimy texture I usually get with okra which was a plus
spicy paneer tikka masal – I liked this one because it was creamy with a good amount of heat
dosa- the dosa came with sauce and a daal and was packed full of potato and veggies
naan – yum!

The food was quite good and the overall vibe was a lot of fun. It’s such an unexpected place, definitely try it!

I was there with my friends. The food was really good. It was superrr busy sunday. I am surprised the girl in the counter managed to handle each and every customer alone. Her name was Nam. She was serving the beer, taking orders and also helping to food run. Overall the service was 5/5 and they also have bunch of beer collection.

They are famous for an incredibly diverse selection of beer. They also have amazing Indian food. Sometimes, there is music. The community is as authentic as you will find in Austin. There is some major state highway construction going on next door; so you might have to park in the parking lot behind the venue, or on the neighborhood streets. But it’s totally worth the trip!

The food is pretty good, the beer selection is nice, and i like the atmosphere. Staff isn’t super welcoming and pick up orders aren’t typically ready on time.

The bike racks suck pretty bad. They aren’t secured to the ground very well and are positioned at the bottom of a steep slope making them very hard to use.
