When we arrived, we were told there would be about an hour and a half wait, so we grabbed some coffee nearby and returned later. Even then, the owners, Gene and Hunter, went above and beyond to make us feel valued. Gene checked on us several times personally, apologizing for the delay and explaining that they were working through reservations first. Eventually, they offered us a table and even treated us to an appetizer on the house for our patience.
We were first seated outside, but when an indoor table became available, Gene insisted we move inside to make our experience even better — that level of hospitality really stood out. Our server Amber was phenomenal: attentive, friendly, and professional. The entire atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and full of life.
The food itself was absolutely amazing. I had the pork cheeks with polenta, and it was beyond delicious — one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. Every plate at our table was top-notch.
From the food to the service to the genuine kindness of the owners, CuGino has definitely earned our highest recommendation. We’ll absolutely be back!
The burrata and beets salad was fabulous and easily the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, everything else fell short. The veal piccata with linguine was just okay — the veal was overly breaded and dry, and there wasn’t nearly enough sauce. The cacio e pepe was mediocre at best and lacked the richness and balance you’d expect.
To make matters worse, we ordered a very nice bottle of wine and were never given wine glasses. I asked twice, waited over 10 minutes, and eventually had to take glasses from another table myself.
Additionally, we were incorrectly charged sales tax on a credit card surcharge. Sales tax should only apply to food and beverages, not to a payment processing fee.
Between the underwhelming food and the poor service, this was not a good experience. I won’t be returning.
