So we got the Birria tacos and I thought they did an excellent job doing Justice to the style slow roasted fall apart tender meat and consomè.
The chimni rolls were actually quite good and the queso it comes with is good.

Service was great but food was dissapointing today. Used to go there a lot and food was great, not sure what happened that it was very bland, no flavor. My husband’s food the ground beef tasted awful. They did comp his dinner and apologized over and over. It will be a while before we go back, we will see if it was a one time issue. We did hear other patrons complain as well. I hope they figure it out and improve.

Other than the price. It was really good. Left full. Spacious and cute place…. It’s right by the lake. Staff was friendly and chips and also were tasty. Might go back for drinks specials.

You absolutely have to go here. The food is perfectly made, seasoned flavorful. You grt an abundant amount, and the chips and salsa are textbook delicious.

What a quaint little place. Very nicely decorated and clean. There were people of all ages here. The restrooms were clean and it has a huge bar. We were seated quickly and immediately brought water and chips and salsa. The chips were warm the salsa was good but we like ours a little chunkier. We both had Margaritas, which were very tasty, just the right amount of citrus. I ordered Steak and Chicken Fajitas and my Husband had the Burrito Deluxe and the Mole Sauce was real good. My steak was tough and over cooked and the chicken was dry but putting it together with the beans, rice and sour cream made it better. Our server Brianna was awesome and we will probably go back. It wasnt dynamite but the food and service was good.

This is our 2nd visit to Compadres in Madison. Both have been excellent experiences!
This time I chose the Compadres Bowl and it was a huge portion. Very well constructed as you can see in the pictures. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty. I could only get thru half of it, so I get a free lunch tomorrow!
My wife chose the pick 2 Combo Dinner and had a beef burrito and chile rellano. She enjoyed both.
To wash that down we both picked the classic lime margarita. Generous size and option of salt or sugar on the rim of the glad.
No regrets on choosing Compadres.

Forgot to take pictures BEFORE I dug in. This is hands down. The closest authentic Mexican food I’ve had in Madison. I’m born and raised in Cali and finding good Mexican food has been a challenge. I’m definitely returning here next time I have a crave for Mexican food.
Update: came back on 2025 after our move away. First place we ate while visiting in Madison. And oh my I miss how good this place is! Still my favorite.

Good typical Mexican. I got the chimichangas which were good. Food was quick drinks stayed full. Helpful staff with our kids. Was mostly full for a Saturday night but sat right away.
