I ordered two different soups: a large chicken soup and a small sancocho. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the sancocho—it only included one type of meat (pork), when an authentic Dominican sancocho traditionally has at least 2–3 different proteins. The chicken soup was just okay; it was mostly broth and made with chicken wings instead of drumsticks or breast, which is what you would normally expect and prefer in a good chicken soup. For the price, the quality and authenticity really fell short. It feels like corners are being cut while charging higher prices.

For a taste of authentic Dominican food in the heart of New York City, head to Dyckman Express in Dyckman. This bustling restaurant is a local favorite, serving up traditional Dominican dishes with a modern twist.

The menu at Dyckman Express is full of bold, flavorful options. Start with a plate of crispy tostones, served with a tangy garlic sauce, or a serving of mofongo stuffed with shrimp, chicken, or beef. The seafood is particularly impressive, with options like whole fried red snapper and shrimp in a creamy garlic sauce.

But what really sets Dyckman Express apart is its commitment to innovation. While the menu is rooted in tradition, the chefs are always experimenting with new flavors and techniques. Try the chimi burger, a Dominican-style burger served on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, and a tangy sauce, or the Dominican-style sushi rolls, which feature plantains instead of rice.

The atmosphere at Dyckman Express is lively and welcoming, with music blasting and customers chatting over their meals. The staff are friendly and attentive, always ready to recommend a dish or share a story about the restaurant’s history.

In a city full of trendy restaurants and international cuisine, Dyckman Express stands out for its commitment to authenticity and innovation. It’s the kind of place that Anthony Bourdain would have loved – unpretentious, full of flavor, and always pushing the boundaries. If you’re in Dyckman, make sure to put Dyckman Express on your list of must-visit restaurants.

I called the restaurant to tell them to be careful with the Carne de cerdo frita , is not fresh and it has a bit of smell . The lady that pick up the phone was quick to tell me that i shouldn’t had eat it . She’s rude and not respectful! If she can’t work doing customer services then she should quit. First of all that’s one of the restaurant job to serve FRESH FOOD , the chef has to inspect everything before cooking it . I always order but to be honest the service that I been getting lately is not one of the best and it’s sad , I hope you guys do better next time .

The best part of my meal was the natural pineapple juice. I decided to try something new and went with their Chorizo Tumbarranchos. Sad to say but I wouldn’t order that again.

The food is tasty but inconsistent. Everytime I order their “Freshly squeezed” orange juice that’s already overpriced, they send me regular Tropicana thinking I don’t notice. It’s obviously not the same.

I’ve only ordered takeout from this place (Uber Eats), never been to the location in person. The food is always great! We like to order the family combos (either one is delicious), the white rice & red beans are always on point. Friendly customer service as well, one of the ladies was quick to give me a call to make a replacement choice for something that was out of stock.

Affordable and delicious, give this place a try if you haven’t!

The restaurant looks nice and everything but I had a horrible experience. I got food poisoned, I ate meat with plantains, hours later I started throwing up and had sharp stomach pain. And that was the only thing I ate that day 5/27/23. I guess they leave their food out for a long time or mix it with the food from the day before. I asked the lady that works there for a cup of water and she rolled over her eyes and then she gave it to me. Overall I suggest it’s not a good restaurant!!!

This place is not what it used to be. The food here used to be very good. Went there today with my wife and Daughter and upon sitting we got the menus and the prices were hidden with white tape, I found this odd but, nevertheless I didn’t pay any attention so we when ahead and ordered our food. I had fried pieces of steak (overcooked and dry) with plantains (again overcooked and fried to much). My wife had the lunch special which was pretty good (stewed steak with onions and peppers, White rice and beans) and my daughter had a hamburger with fries (overcooked and dry as hell) I had two Heineken’s and my wife had two Coors Light(fairly cold). Now, we’re Dominicans who live in this neighborhood for about 15 years and with that being said, this food sucked big time. Our bill was $60.52 and I have no clue on what. I think the beer was at least $7 or $8 each, because the food was no way more then $30(for all three). I for one, do not like to ask “How much is that”. So, I hope some of you who decide to eat to be wary of the prices here. Believe me, have lunch or dinner else where. I will never set foot in that place again.

Not sure what’s going with this restaurant but before their food and service was consistent both at restaurant and delivery, but within these few months, I have received food that was bland, wrong orders and lastly, and I will never order from here again, they never fulfilled an order placed thru Grubhub.

After 45 minutes, waiting for my order to arrive, I decided to call the restaurant. The employee told me the order was never started, as they were short staffed. Had only 2 employees.

She claimed they will beging preparing it and out for delivery soon. 30 minutes passed by and not one single notice saying it was completed or on its way. Had to cancel the complete order.

I would like to give you another try but what’s going on with not processing orders and being short staffed on a Sunday, during lunch time ?
