Reviews
Disappointing, dirty.
THE LONG VERSION:
I had high hopes. Lots of good local reviews suggest this is THE place to get a burger, so I drove 15 minutes out of my way to get lunch.
First impression: It’s a little storefront dive sharing space in a strip mall with a vape shop. That should have been a red flag (smokers can’t taste food!) but I still happily entered to order at a small counter in a small and very crowded (with tables) space.
It’s Burger Shack and I came for a burger, so that’s what I ordered, but that might have been a mistake, as the signs and pictures inside definitely focused on other entrees, like chicken or cheesesteaks or fried appetizers. But I spotted the bacon cheeseburger I wanted on their combo menu and ordered it without considering the rest of the board. As usual, I ordered my food without onions (allergy). I was sad to find they are a Pepsi shop, being a Coke guy, but your preference may be different, so I don’t count that in my review score.
My food took about 15 minutes to arrive. Id tucked myself at a table in the back because it seemed to be the only one with a moveable chair (there was one other at the front, but someone was in it). My table was clean. That was good, because the chairs weren’t, the floor definitely wasn’t, and the soda fountain very much wasn’t. The ice tea dispenser sits on a baking sheet that looked as if its last wash was many many weeks ago. But some great meals come in these kinds of crusty places, so I was still looking forward to my food.
It looked good on arrival (see photo), despite the ketchup packets containing a watery tomato soup which was not right. It looked great, in fact, and I was very excited to bite into the burger.
This is where it all went bad.
The bacon (3 strips) was so stringy, I thought a piece of cloth must have fallen into my food. All three had the same consistency, and I ended up pulling the remains out after the first slice resisted being chewed up (it stayed a wadded ball of stringy unpleasantness). The burger itself was good, though the lettuce and tomatoes were wet, which made the very thin bun soggy.
Crinkle fries can usually help salvage a bad burger experience, but these were off. The fries themselves seemed weird (maybe freezer burn? Maybe left to defrost before frying? Not sure…) with an inconsistent texture and an exterior lacking in crisp. They also tasted of stale fry oil and included fragments of breaded items stuck among them (looked like an onion ring chunk and maybe crumbs from chicken fingers or mozzarella sticks). A good pair for the watery pseudo-ketchip to complete my disappointment.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
Maybe this was a bad week. I’ll probably never find out. I’m unlikely to come back.
BONUS: They do have table ads which may provide $3 back (until 9/30/25) from Pepsi for getting a fountain drink here. Not enough to be worth visiting, but nice to get.
