Social Profile:

In 1989, we opened our doors. Within a few hours, Athenians were lined up around the block to sample the first few pints of Guinness that were poured in their town. Quite a few pours later, we are still here, giving our best to earn their affection. Our offerings have grown. Three imported beers grew to four, and so on. Pop up food offerings, prepared by friends from around the world, turned into a small kitchen serving pub staples and our takes on a few of the world’s wonderful flavors. Our bar grew to offer an array of scotches, wines, and cocktails that we hope will tempt you to get lost in thought or conversation. Spend a bit of time with us. Gaze out the window onto what is likely the greatest street corner in any city in the world.

English-inspired pub with a relaxed vibe offering typical bar fare & a variety of brews.

This place had the best fish and chips I have had in years. English pub atmosphere with a great group of musicians on Sunday evening. It felt like we were in a renaissance festival. Seating is tight for anymore than four at a table, but not unusual for a restaurant like this. Get a snakebite!

We have tried with my wife and we really loved The Globe. It was a great pleasure to listen to the music group composed of retired and young people. The food (cod fries) is excellent, with german Drinks bitBurger.

As we approached the property, we realized that street parking was the only option, but we snagged a spot quickly. It was an old-school street meter, thankfully it accepted credit cards. We took a short walk across the street and noticed a few outdoor tables in front, before heading inside. We entered and saw the sign instructing to seat yourself. We sat at a high top table pretty centrally located. The whole interior felt like we were transported to a British pub. Our server quickly came over with menus and waters, giving us a few minutes to review the options. We needed some time to review the menu. The beer list was massive; drafts as well as cans and bottles spread across multiple pages. While they don’t offer traditional beer flights, they do serve smaller 11 ounce pours. Wifey ordered a couple of those: a Harp Premium Lager and a Bavak Super Wit from the draft list. I went with a bottled Pilsner Urquell and later tried an 11 ounce taster of “Escape Button,” an IPA from local Athens brewery, Athentic. We enjoyed all of our choices. The food menu featured classic pub options, but also a few that you wouldn’t expect like a Curry Chicken Bowl that I almost ordered but instead I went with the Turkey Club sandwich with no tomatoes and a side salad. Wifey ordered Chicken tenders with french fries.
The food took a little longer than expected to come out and when it arrived my sandwich still came out with tomatoes. I did not make a big deal about it and picked them out. My sandwich and salad were actually very good and Wifey said her meal was also very good. While hanging out in the dining room we noticed some original artwork near the bar that we found out was to depict the history of wine. There’s also an upstairs area that was blocked off during our visit, and a sign mentioned that live music starts at 10 PM. Overall, we really enjoyed our lunch time visit to The Globe and would definitely return the next time we are in town.

I’ve always loved The Globe and its eclectic mix of intellectuals, grad students, alumni and professors. The food is excellent, with the Reuben standing out as a must-try and the tomato soup delivering comforting flavor that pairs perfectly with it. Drinks are well crafted, and the Salty Dawg in particular is fantastic, making it easy to see why this place remains a favorite in the Athens scene.

Came here on a Saturday at around 11:45 am. There were no issues getting a table. We had a party of 5, but it seems like most of the tables are for two to four people. We were able to pull up a chair to our table for four. The tables in general seemed a bit small.

The food was very good! They had some really good typical pub dishes like meatloaf, shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, some great burger choices as well! We also had some really good appetizers.

The service was excellent. Our server was very open about what dishes he liked and didn’t like. Made some great recommendations!

I definitely recommend giving this place a try.

The Globe is perfection without the rigidity. Calm, woodsy, old world vibes that draw the community back over and over again. Drinks are quality and not quirky. Staff is colorful, conversational and attentive. The menu is a rare offering of classic pub food that has a lot of love added into each recipe. The soup is always a winner. House made sauces and dressings are supreme. My personal favorites are the Pretzels & Beer Cheese, the Twin Pines Diner burgers, the curried lentil Sloppy Joe and the Levantine Bowl, however, every time I visit I’m reminded of why I love it. They never miss. See ya soon for a Smithwick’s!

One of the most authentic puns in Georgia, The Globe has been serving up pints of the black stuff since 1989. Located just off Broad Street in downtown Athens, this place is a must visit. The menu is extensive enough to have something for everyone. Clean bathrooms, kind staff and great food! If you’re visiting the university or in town for business, stop in for a pint and a bite. You won’t be disappointed!

The food was good. I had the Lebanese bowl. I’d hoped to get fish, but the menu was out of date. The cocktails were okay, but this bar was so loud and crowded that I couldn’t hear myself think. It’s probably fine when it’s not busy, but it was super busy when we were there.

Its rare to find a place with no notes on the food but absolutely no notes. Everything was above expectations. The shepherds pie, curry, and spicy curry chicken sandwich w/okra all were standouts and I cant wait to travel back! Excellent service and great bar.
