Red Pepper was a good find for authentic Chinese food. We enjoyed the minced beef egg drop soup mushroom soup, called Westlake beef soup in other Chinese restaurants. We loved the dry braised fish fillet and lamb with scallions. However, we did not enjoy the twice-cooked pork bell/bacon. It was bland, too fatty, and lacked much flavor. Bok choy was light and delicious. The service was fast and friendly, and they gave us a pot of tea as soon as we were seated. You also get a discount if you pay cash.

Got some food to share with some friends. Large Wonton soup, Mongolian Beef, fish with soft tofu, green beans, and pea leaves. All of it was amazing. The beef was tender with sweet onions and saucy mushrooms. The fish was very easy to seperate with the chopsticks, but still held together to be picked up. The soft tofu was a great texture and absorbed the sauce well. The pea leaves were fresh and had a light earthy taste. The green beans were cooked perfectly and had a great garlic flavor. The soup had a nice light taste despite looking dark and the wontons held there form and were delicious. The place was pretty busy on a Saturday night, but we were seated right away. We were served black tea immediately. The servers were very busy, but when we got one’s attention, they were very friendly and followed our requests for separate bowls and spoons to share the wonton soup. One thing I found unusual was that we had to order water. It was free, so I didn’t mind. Will be a regular spot for me. Highly recommend.

Review based on initial visit for lunch. Ordered off the lunch special menu — General Tso’s chicken with hot and sour soup, steamed rice. Lunch is served with a pot of hot tea. Food was well prepared, tasty and good portion size. The hot and sour soup was really spicy — I like it; but some might opt for the (no red pepper) egg drop or won ton soup. I never order fried rice on a first visit — try the steamed rice: if this is of decent quality and well prepared, the restaurant’s food is likely to get a 4 or better rating. Physically handicapped accessible from parking lot — ramp at side entrance. Street entrance has a step. I’ve tried several Chinese restaurants in Worcester and this is the best one so far, and the only one offering a range of Szechuan dishes. 12/16/24 – raising my food rating to a 5. For Worcester, best Szechuan I have had in the city. 06/15/25 – Father’s Day lunch —- great food! I brought my own bag of puerh tea to enjoy with the meal.
PS — the food is so good here that my wish would be that they offer both green and ripe puerh, lightly smoked lapsang souchong, and several varieties of oolong to pair with various dishes.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at Red Pepper was the worst I’ve had in this country.
We went for a late lunch around 2 PM. The restaurant was mostly empty. Our waitress initially seemed friendly, but service was odd. Instead of serving water or tea, they just left a container and cups on the table for us to pour ourselves. Not a huge deal, but unusual.
The food came out extremely fast — all five dishes within about five minutes. Honestly, it made us wonder if everything was just reheated. The food itself was just okay, nothing special.
The worst part happened when we were about to leave. After we finished eating, I went to the front desk to pay with Apple Pay. My 2-year-old son had been sitting quietly in his high chair the entire meal. While my wife was packing the leftovers ourselves (yes, customers pack their own leftovers), he slipped away and briefly ran onto a couch in an empty section of the restaurant.
Suddenly, a woman sitting nearby spoke to me in a commanding tone: “Don’t let your kid run on the couch.”
She was sitting with her legs crossed, looking upset, food still in her mouth, and pointing her chopsticks at me while speaking. There was no “excuse me,” no polite approach — just an accusation. I was shocked and confused. At first, I thought she was another customer who was bothered, and I was ready to apologize.
Then I found out from our waitress that she was actually another waitress working there.
Her attitude was extremely rude and hostile, like we had committed some serious offense. I understand that kids shouldn’t run on furniture — but he is 2 years old, and the restaurant was nearly empty. A little understanding and basic courtesy would have made a big difference.
This place has zero tolerance for children and zero warmth toward families. I later checked other reviews and realized we are not the only ones who experienced poor service.
This place is NOT kid-friendly. If you have children, I strongly recommend avoiding it.
We will never come back. Blacklisted.

Ok but not great.
First waitress who seated us seemed… Upset and angry. 2nd waiterss later was super cheery.
The food was mall level take out, at best i was super underwhelemed.
They plopped a pot of tea on the table and never asked us if we wanted drinks, which i guess didnt matter since neither waitress ever stayed there long enough for us to when we realizied after initial order , or when we tried to get thier attention later, which didnt really work.

I love Mala.
This is one of the only places in Worcester where you can order Mala dishes. We got the dry beef hot pot and the Mala pot without fish. Both had very nice spice, I could honestly handle more spicy but my fiancé would probably faint from it. The dry pot was more on the sweeter side, but it still tastes good. Together, the food cost about $50 dollars for both of us, without tip–however, we had two trays worth of leftovers to bring home!
The service was sufficient. The staff were friendly, polite, attentive, and sent our food out in a timely manner.
The ambiance is very straightforward. It’s not just a quick pickup spot where you can pick up the greasy, fried Chinese food, but it’s an actual place you can sit down and taste some authentic Chinese dishes. The decor is not the best, but it’s very comfortable and casual.
We would definitely return with our friends!

Highly recommend Red Pepper especially for good Sichuan food, this is a step up above your typical American Chinese fast food restaurant. One of my favorite restaurants in Worcester and go at least every other month.
If you like spice this is the place. I would reserve to get any fried dish like their amazing “L01 Deep fried chicken” for dine in only as they do loose their crisp if doing takeout.
Some of my favorite dishes so far:
– L7 Cumin lamb, L1 fried chicken, E7 shredded beef, J14 Hot beef noodle soup
– L14 mala pot (lots of seafood and good for several people)
Their spicy wontons are also incredible and quite spicy.

Real authentic Sichuan cuisine.

We got cold sliced beef tendon, spicy and sour beef noodle soup, fried shrimp with walnut in mayo, and fried chicken with Chilli.

Excellent meal brought to our table promptly. The hot and sour soup was as good as I remember from nearly 20 years ago. Lots of spicy options on the extensive menu but plenty of choices for those who are spice averse. It feels like a family restaurant, with very basic decor and everyone casually dressed. Very reasonable prices. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Note: I used to teach international students from China and they all said the food was very authentic with only a few “Amercanized” dishes on the menu. Also, I’ve been going here since it was known as Chopsticks.
