Tadeo’s Mexican Restaurant
Tadeo’s Mexican Restaurant – Downtown Bellingham
Reviews
When the waitress eventually brought the chips, I tried to ask a question and she walked away mid-sentence. I am not soft-spoken, so this was not an issue of being unheard. Another customer stood at the entrance the entire time without any acknowledgment either.
The lack of basic service and respect was unacceptable. We walked out and will not be returning.
We went to Tadeo’s Restaurant at 207 E. Holly St., Bellingham, WA 98225 on January 31, 2026 for lunch as a party of three and received a bill for 89.18 dollars for mediocre food in a cloistered, uninviting atmosphere. We were served tortilla chips and salsa, along with cheese dip and guacamole, and reasonably assumed these were complimentary, as is standard practice at many restaurants. Only when we received the bill did we discover we had been charged 8.99 dollars for cheese dip and 15 dollars for two orders of guacamole, a total of 24 dollars for items we never ordered and were never told would incur an extra charge.
At no point did our waitress inform us that these additional items would be added to our bill or that there would be an extra cost. This feels deceptive and completely undermines trust. We would never have agreed to order these items had we known we were being charged.
When we got home and noticed the overcharge, we immediately called the restaurant to address what we believed was an honest mistake and an inappropriate charge. Initially, the waitress and another individual on the phone seemed willing to work with us and find a way to reimburse the 24 dollars. However, when the manager came on the line, the tone changed completely. The manager stated that because we had eaten the items, there would be no compensation—ignoring the fact that we never ordered them and were never told they were extra—and then unprofessionally hung up on us.
This combination of unclear billing, charges for unordered items, and rude, dismissive management is unacceptable. The food itself was nothing special, and the experience was overshadowed by what felt like a deliberate attempt to squeeze extra money out of customers. We will not be returning, and we cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone who expects honest, transparent, and professional service.
We had the beef birria tacos soooooo juicy, and the dipping broth was incredible. Even after 20 minutes, the cheese pull was still impressive. We also tried the Molcajete, which came with everything on the side, including corn tortillas, beans, and rice.
It was seriously delicious. A bit on the pricey side, but totally worth it. I’d definitely come back.
Our first visit to Tadeo’s Mexican Restaurant was an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience. We came from Canada hoping to enjoy a pleasant Mexican lunch in Bellingham, but instead we felt deceived, mistreated, and overcharged.
We ordered three lunch meals for our family. Without asking us, the waitress brought tortilla chips, salsa, guacamole, and a melted cheese dip to our table. At no point did we request these items, nor were we told that they were not complimentary. Naturally, we assumed they were included, as this is standard practice in most Mexican restaurants.
To our shock, when the bill arrived, we were charged $15 for the guacamole and $9 for the melted cheese dip — appetizers we never ordered and were never informed would cost extra. This felt like a deliberate tactic to inflate our bill.
When we returned home, we called the restaurant to speak with the manager. Instead of listening to our concerns, he was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. Rather than addressing the issue or offering a reasonable refund for the $24 in unwanted appetizers, he hung up on us — which is completely unacceptable customer service.
The food itself was another disappointment — greasy, low quality, and far below what we expect from a Mexican restaurant. The restaurant interior looked dingy and poorly maintained, more like a cheap fast-food joint than a sit-down dining establishment. The waitress also seemed confused and flustered throughout our meal, which added to the unpleasant experience.
In total, we paid around $90 for three lunches plus unwanted appetizers — an outrageous price for such poor food and service.
We left feeling cheated and disrespected as customers. Based on our experience, we strongly do not recommend Tadeo’s Mexican Restaurant.
Homemade Mexican. Delicious tortilla soup with freshly made broth and tender chicken.
Friendly service.
4 on atmosphere only because it was a bit cold.
