Food of CT
We’ve been long overdue for a trip back to Shanks! We visited on what was probably one of the hottest days of the year, but the breeze was so nice from the water that it didn’t even phase us. They had live music, so it was a nice vibe that night. We appreciated that the staff brought the food up to us, and it all came out quickly. I wasn’t expecting so many unique options like the crab Rangoon flatbread or lobster nachos, but they were great!! Definitely keeping this spot in mind for future waterfront meals.

This place was great! The food came out quick and fresh and all of the staff were extremely polite and hard working. We didn’t expect to get as much assistance as we did! The upper deck was cooler with the breeze and had a nice view of the water. We ordered coconut shrimp, a side of fries, a kids grilled cheese, lobster BLT, lobster nachos, and four sodas with a total of $118 (lobster dishes are market price, but I feel that the quantity and quality of what we were served was worth the price compared to similar restaurants). We went on a weekday at lunch, but I imagine this place gets bonkers on weekend nights…just be aware that parking is a bit limited!

My family and I were very excited to try this restaurant by the water. However, sadly, the experience was nothing that we thought it would be.
First of all, I paid for my mother and I, and we were forced to tip before even knowing what the service would be like (Btw, for a lobster bisque, roll and 2 drinks totaled to $132). My family ordered a variety of menu items as well, almost everything was received cold, burned and soggy. Mom said the lobster bomb was hard and stale. The presentation was good, but misleading in quality.
My sister told the waitress that we weren’t happy with the food, everything was burnt and cold.. She literally laughed and walked away. Our tables were mostly full plates that were left uneaten, and everyone agreed we would not come back.
Also, the tables were dirty with other people’s food still all over it. There was a bowl of used utensils, opened bags of crackers and sauces there. No one came to clean our table even when we informed the staff, and we had to finally give them the used trays. My mom had to clean the table with used napkins just so we could eat.
It was an underwhelming experience, the best part being the atmosphere. But there are no reservations or waiting lists, so have fun waiting in line if you have a big party.

This place is a hidden gem in Connecticut tucked away on a dead end road that leads to the ocean!!! The chef has created a lobster bisque that is out of this world! The Tuna tacos were perfectly prepared and extremely generous. The pineapple and Jalapeño salsa was perfect blend of sweet with a touch of heat. My daughter had the Lobster Roll and hands down it was the best she has had. Tender, moist Lobster meat with a perfectly toasted and buttered roll. We will be back!

This waterfront restaurant is very casual. You order your own food and then go sit at a picnic table. Word to the wise give someone in your party your order and then go wait for a table because there are not that many. The view is lovely from the upper deck. If you know the area it’s down a bit from Rocky’s aqua. I had fried clams and they were probably just about the best fried clams I’ve ever had and I consider myself a bit of a fried clam aficionado because I order them almost every time we go out in the summer if they’re on the menu. My brother-in-law got the same thing however his were a little bit more crispy than mine. Mine were absolutely perfect. My husband got the shrimp tacos and he gave them about a 7 out of 10 rating. My sister-in-law got the lobster roll and she also got lobster tacos to take home. She was very happy with both. We also got lobster bisque. The flavor was delicious. However, some bowls were lacking pieces of lobster. All in all it’s a nice casual dining place on the water on a warm summer night. It is BYOB so if you want anything other than soda or lemonade bring whatever you want to drink. I would definitely go back however don’t go when you’re in a hurry because it could be a half hour wait in line just to order your food. But we all felt it was worth it

Great seafood place in CT. Slightly pricey, their lobster rolls, lobster bisque and clam chowder soup is good. They also have other seafood dishes on their menu. The staff is young college students, so there’s lot of energy, and service is swift. The location is at the marina and you can see boats passing by and it’s just a perfect setting for an evening meal.

We took a trip to Shanks with our pup because of their dog friendly enviornment, which is a wonderful feature from the business! However, upon seating ourselves and awaiting our meal, we noticed some confusion in the staff and in presenting service. A wind gust actually caused our tables umbrella to fly right up out of its stand nearly wacking us in our faces and fling across another couples table and off onto the stairs below. The staff did not react effectively for some time. When the food arrived we were underwhelmed as to the 8oz lobster roll we ordered. It arrived soggy and appeared to be resting on an un toasted bun, that then was over flowing onto the plate. Our coconut shrimp was good, however the shrimps quality in size also was underwhelming. Shanks has great location, scenery and quaint New England asthetic overall, they are dog friendly and a lovely overall eatery however, I hope to see some improvements in the premium seafood sector considering reputation, market cost and advertisements impact on expectations for the consumer.

Drove all the way from Naugatuck to have gluten free calamari because of reviews and their menu says anything on here can be made gluten free. Cute place on the water. Staff were friendly and polite. My first order was calamari but they were out then I asked if the jalapeño poppers were GF nope. So I opted for the bang bang shrimp and fries. It was not hot or spicy, good not amazing or anything. Fries were good too. I will try to return for the Calamari but will call first. Overall not worth the drive but the view and atmosphere are five stars ⭐️

This is my favorite place to eat on the shoreline in the summer. Everything on the menu can be made gluten free, it’s delicious, and you can’t beat the view!! Love watching the boats go by or playing a round of corn hole. Pro tip- it’s BYOB but if you walk over to Aqua you can get your drinks to go and walk back 🙂

Ordered the lobster nachos. Was just chips topped with a bunch of mango. The avocado was brown and old. The tomatoes were cherry tomatoes meant for a salad. No salsa was provided of any kind. My friend got the lobster roll which was over $50 and she thought red lobsters was better. Coconut shrimp were extremely greasy. Tables were not cleaned. Sat down on bench and got a stain on my shorts. Very overpriced for the quality of food. Won’t be going back.
