My husband and I just moved to the area and had a few friends and family members recommend Sparta as a great local spot to check out. We went on a random weekday and were surprised to find a good number of parties dining in. Since the area is full of seemingly great restaurants, I took it as a positive sign that so many were choosing to also dine at Sparta that evening.

The menu is pretty robust and I don’t know enough about Greek food to speak to its authenticity, but my heart went straight to the falafels. Some might consider it sacrilege to put both fries and falafels into a wrap, but I applaud such audacity to happily ‘junkify’ a dish. Realistically speaking, both of these fried items suffered a little in the crunch factor after sitting together in a tightly wound wrap, but the flavor and fun was definitely there. My husband enjoyed his gyro wrap just as well, though he encountered a few drier bites here and there.

The side Greek salad we ordered (mainly to balance out all the fried food in my order) was delicious if a little smaller in size than we would’ve liked. The surprising highlight of our meal was the eggplant dip that we ordered as an appetizer. It was served cold but delicious, and the accompanying pita bread was warm and slightly buttery tasting. Never did I think I’d be writing home about how good the pita bread in a restaurant was, but neither of us could stop talking about it – both during and after the meal.

The restaurant is surprisingly spacious, and service was polite and responsive to our needs. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area!

Great food, service and atmosphere, I went with my friend this evening I got the chicken pita with Greek fries (fresh, flavored and crunchy) , the place not crowded around 7pm on a Friday, Very recommended.

Just to be clear, I have never done a negative review but our experience warranted something to be said. The food’s ok, but specifically we ordered the “Sparta chips” which are just fried zucchini slices with tzatziki on the side…it was 11 dollars. We had figured it would be comparable to a side order of fries. We were wrong…It came with 20 small pieces of zucchini-that’s 55 cents per “chip”. It was disappointing to say the least. They were overpriced, greasy, and flavorless. When I called to ask if this was the regular serving they said “we usually give 14 slices…1,4-fourteen. So if you got 20 what’s the complaint?” That was even more disappointing than what we got!! lol!

Oh, and they forgot the extra tzatziki too.

Two of us had lunch here. Falafel wrap w/side salad was good although the falafel was overcooked & dry. I had the trio of dips – Eggplant, spicy feta, & hummus. Loved the eggplant dip, spicy feta was very salty which feta can be salty at times. Hummus was OK – kind of mealy. Very nice interior & service was good. If in the area again, I would definitely go back. Street parking only. BYOB.

The Greek fries are one of my favorite fries ! But everything else I’ve had here has always been great as well.

I’m convinced they mess up your order on purpose. Even when you double check and they repeat the order, they still get it wrong. Ive asked for chicken and they give me beef, today I ordered Greek fries & received french fries and of course I got charged for the Greek fries. Such a shame because the food is good. It also doesn’t matter who takes the order, it always happens.

I was visiting from out of state. I was warmly welcomed at the restaurant. The service by waiter Eric was one of the best waiter experiences I’ve ever had in my life. I ordered appetizers, main entree/salads, and desserts. The only reason I didn’t give a full 5 stars for food was because of the dessert I tried. However everything else about this experience was wonderful so much that I be willing to travel from out of state just to eat here again.

I had high hopes for this Greek spot, but, it fell short in more ways than one. For starters, the food is overpriced compared to what you’re actually getting. The flavors, which are supposed to be the hallmark of Greek cuisine, were seriously lacking. The seasoning and spices on the sides were barely noticeable, and what little they did use wasn’t evenly distributed, making it impossible to properly enjoy the dishes.

On top of that, they nickel and dime you for every little thing. Charging upwards of $3 for just two small sides of sauce? That’s just absurd. It feels like they’re more focused on squeezing every last cent out of their customers than delivering a quality dining experience.

For the price they’re charging, I expected a lot more effort in both flavor and customer satisfaction. Sadly, I won’t be returning. I recommend gyro project in Fort Lee. Best bank for your buck and they’ll give you a whole platter without nickel and diming you like Sparta Taverna is doing with their rations.

We did take out. Dry falafel balls. I had plastic in my falafel platter. Like a little chunk from a lid and it wasn’t my lid. Also some sandiness in the mashed potatoes. Spent about $100 for bad take out. I recommend other places.

I’ve always loved the food here, but my father had a disappointing experience with the young lady behind the front desk. He had requested that she double-check everything, as we were far from home and didn’t want to return with something wrong. Instead, she simply handed him the receipt and said, “Here is the receipt you can check it yourself.” If he had been rude, that would have been understandable, but he wasn’t and it’s her job to ensure accuracy and provide good customer service.
