We visited a week ago and the only good thing about this place was the server Parker. I have been a regular there for fifteen years and this experience was very offputting for us. Parker was informative, polite, and friendly. We got fries and when they were delivered to the table I noticed they looked different than usual. We have pretty bad intolerances to gluten that cause GI upset, migraines, nerve pain and rashes. The server went to check with her manager. She came back and told us that the manager said they should be gluten free because they have been serving them with all the other gluten free items. I asked her to clarify if they were actually confirmed gluten free – should be just doesn’t work for us given the extent of our reactions to eating gluten.

She went and checked the box herself and took a photo of the ingredients so we could double check. Lo and behold, it showed that there was gluten in the fries. The server assured us she would let the manager know. I wish things got better from here, but they didn’t.

I also have an egg allergy, so I ordered the chicken Philly sub with no bread and it arrived in a pile of onions. The attached photo shows the amount of onions after I ate about 6 small pieces of chicken. I have ordered the same sandwich for the last 16 years and it has never come out that saturated in onions.

I asked the server if she would be able to just take the food back and remove it from the check. She profusely apologized for the issue and removed the food. When the check came, the manager had given us a 10% discount on the sandwich. I went up to the manager and explained that I did not eat 90% of the dish and sent it back because it did not have the normal amount of onions or chicken. I explained that if I had not pushed and insisted to see the ingredients both myself and my six year old would have been very sick for the following 24 hours. He appeared annoyed and stated “fine, I am taking it off”.

So, if you have eaten here in the last month, are gluten free, and have had the fries – you have been eating gluten.

Parker is the only reason we will be back – the manager did nothing but get annoyed when I tried to explain how eating the fries could have seriously impacted myself and my son. People make mistakes, and we ge that – but being disrespectful and annoyed when we insist for an ingredient check is a slap in the face. We didn’t ask for gluten to make us sick, but this is the hand we have been dealt.

These are the fries that are not gluten free, and the photo of the sandwich is all leftover onion.

So have been here to eat twice. Moved from Boston to Charlottesville and have missed having a local place with varied menu, good food and fair prices. Both meals have been great. Had pizza and fries. Had this huge basket of fries for 4.99. Real fries not those fake batter stuff. Pizza was delicious, dough fresh sauce tasty. Next visit my husband had a wrap which he devoured. I had the chicken and mushroom sub which was delicious. The chicken was moist flavorful and I believe the sub bread was freshly baked! Love this place and will be going back to try other things on this varied menu!

The Antipasta salad was delicious and they gave a generous portion! The ribeye cheesesteak was also very good. My first time visiting the restaurant and it will not be my last. The location is minutes away from my home. I definitely recommend Vinny’s Italian Grill & Pizzeria.

I have to say first, I’m basing this review on today’s takeout order. BLT, cannoli and when I arrived I saw the tres leches cake in the display fridge as you walk in and was told it was new. I had to try it. Didn’t even think to ask how much ($7.95)! I found out after I got home. My entire bill came to $26.21. For $7.95 I could have probably made a whole tres leches cake myself and if I’d thought to ask the price, I would have. The cake was way too sweet and not worth the money. When I make it, I put 3 kinds of milk on it and the milk in bottom of this container was thick and I believe it was sweetened condensed milk, no other milk mixed with it!

What I really stopped to get was a BLT. It turned out to be a LT with maybe 1-2 pieces of bacon on it. I think, I tasted bacon in maybe 2 bites in middle. The 2 places I usually order from, the bacon is piled on and worth every penny. I will never again get a “BLT” from here.

Cannoli is good as usual! I can say that’s the 1 star!

The other food I have eaten there has always been good!

I ordered the blackened chicken primavera with no tomatoes and a side of garlic bread for pickup about 45 minutes before closing, which is close, but shouldn’t be too close. I thought I had remembered the pizza being alright when I was a kid ten years ago but maybe that was wrong. I should have known with everything on their menu that they don’t specialize and therefore do nothing well. Anyways, there were about 2oz of chicken, like a third of a very thin filet, and it was ok. The Alfredo sauce was just a bunch of under seasoned fat coating everything in my mouth in a gross way, the vegetables were not seasoned at all, and the broccoli was overcooked and mushy. The garlic bread is bland and dry too. I ate the bit of chicken on the bread with some squash because it was tolerable, but I will probably just throw out the rest because it isn’t good. I guess technically there is nothing wrong with it, it had all the ingredients they said, but they obviously will cheap out and not even try to make their food taste good. It’s just money in and money out when they look at their food. I wish I had picked literally any other restaurant in the area, I would have had a better tasting and more satisfying meal at McDonalds.

Stopped here before our flight home to Wi and it was so good! My husband got a small pizza with pepperoni, green peppers and sausage. I got the grilled salmon and my mom got the blackened chicken Primavera. The veggies of broccoli, zucchini and yellow squash in mine and my mom’s dishes were so good with a little bite to them yet. The hubby loved his pizza, the crust was phenomenal! Will definitely visit again the next time we’re in Va!!

Italian chicken wings were fantastic as an appetizer. Calamari was okay, nothing unique about it, just fried. Philly cheesesteak was good although there was not a lot of of the steak part. Lasagna was really good. They serve wine and beer, no liquor. Service was good, so will definitely visit again.

Just had the worst experience at Vinny’s. We’ve literally been eating here for over a decade and never been treated so poorly. The waitress got our pizza order wrong and instead of making it right, the owner blamed us and refused. When I said I wasn’t paying for a pizza we didn’t order and that we have been coming to Vinny’s all the time for years he said (and i quote) “everyone comes here all the time” I am absolutely flabbergasted and beyond disappointed in this experience.

Sorry for the length, just want to share our experience because knowledge is power and someone else can make their decision based on the information that I’m sharing.

I want to start this by saying that I really had hoped to be able to email someone to talk about my experience but could not find any contact info other than a phone number for the store and I know that’s just going to put me through to a server and no difference will be made.

We’ve gotten take out a few times since moving to the area and the food has always been great! And the staff even went above and beyond when I left a little note saying that we were about to have a baby when one of the takeout orders was for my after delivery meal. And for that reason I’m giving three stars instead of less. If I had to go by tonight’s experience it would definitely be either one or two, I really can’t decide at this point.

It was because of the great takeout that I decided I wanted to come here for my birthday dinner- which was our first time eating out since the baby was born. Everything seemed okay at first and I thought we had just beat the evening rush (which surprised me that there was one on a Monday). It didn’t take long to notice that a lot of people were waiting on their food and that turned into us waiting a long time as well. It was probably about 40 minutes before our food finally came out and we were literally about to leave because our young kids were getting antsy.

But that was the least disappointing thing. The most disappointing thing was the food itself. I had ordered the chicken piccata which is pan-fried chicken over pasta in a lemon butter sauce. The chicken came out looking like Casper the ghost and it was sitting in a pool of basically lemon juice and butter. I know some sauces are a bit runnier than others but I really wouldn’t call this a sauce at all. So beyond looking unappealing, the taste was just not what was expected. My husband’s entree also was very unappetizing as the ravioli were just swimming in very runny cream sauce. But at least they tasted better than my dish did.

We didn’t bring attention to it to our server because she was clearly overwhelmed. Other than taking and bringing our initial drink and food orders, we didn’t see her (except for bringing stuff to other tables). We had asked another server if the kids fries could be brought out earlier since we were waiting so long at that point but that didn’t happen. My husband went and stood in line at the front trying to ask about when the food would come out when it finally was brought out.

I got to say that at least the kids were good. Taking three kids out to a restaurant is a feat in itself, especially one with a food allergy and then a newborn! But my husband and I literally left without eating anything other than the appetizer since by time we got our food the kids were ready to go and we lost our appetite.

I really hope that it was just an off night for everyone and we definitely will try getting take out again but will not be trying to bring three kids out anytime soon. And we’ll probably stick to the same tried and true dishes that we love instead of anything new.
