Update from second time going:
Still AMAZING! I recommend the BBQ beef with Cajun sauce. Some of the best BBQ I have ever had!
My wife ordered the Eggplant Parmesan that came with a side of Fettucine/Marinara sauce. I got the Grilled BBQ Kielbasa Sandwich with some fries. Both of orders came with Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks and a House Salad.
The food was amazing!! The Eggplant Parmesan was breaded beautifully and was crispy and full of flavor. The sauce both on the Fettucine and the Eggplant was very good.
The Kielbasa was perfectly grilled and the BBQ sauce on it did not overpower the flavor of the Kielbasa and was very tasty. The fries were crispy and very tasty,
The star of the meal might have been the House Salad. It was so good and the dressing on it reminded both my wife and myself of the salad that her mother used to make for meals.
All of the food came out quickly, was hot and tasted so good. The service was great as well as our server was very personable and quick to take care of us.
You never know about local spots when you decide to take a chance on them, but we are so happy we found this place! We live almost three hours from Kirksville but I think this is a place we would drive to if we were out and wanted a good meal.
If you are in the Kirksville area stop and give them a try.
The atmosphere was okay and the waitress was very busy and all alone while trying to wait on too many tables. She was doing her best but it would have probably been better if she had some help.
My wife loved her fries and the tartar sauce but the fish was not her favorite.
My daughter had the breaded chicken sandwich but she was not a fan of all the breading and felt the chicken was a little overcooked. She liked everything else.
Overall very good but it could have been a little better.
This restaurant has two very different atmospheres.
The front door is the wooden nickel which is a nice family friendly space…
the back side of the restaurant is Woody’s…with an awesome old wood and brick bar feel that serves off of the main menu.
I ordered a prime rib sandwich (a sandwich size cut off of a prime rib, not shaved) with au jus, fries and simple salad that was fantastic! (for a very reasonable price I might add),
My partner had the chicken marsala with a side of fettuccine, salad and breadsticks very tasty. (The marsala sauce is lighter than we were used to with sauteed mushrooms and tomato but light and delicious!)
The staff was kind and food came out in a very timely manner.
Next time we are in Kirksville Mo we will go back.
Great experience!
I will definitely go back!
MENU: Odd mix of miscellaneous items. Americanized Italian food like spaghetti and fried ravioli, mixed with barbeque ribs and brisket, and Midwestern fare like the tenderloin sandwich, and a few odd balls that were popular in decades past, like blackened fish.
FOOD QUALITY: Mediocre. Lots of factory-made/frozen items, and simple things you might as well make at home.
MENU FAVORITES: The only thing I go for is the barbeque brisket and/or ribs.
MENU FAILS: There’s nothing wrong with Italian American food, I just think it’s odd to have it on the side with barbeque.
FRONT OF HOUSE SERVICE: The dive bar in the back seems like a local’s place where newcomers are kept at arm’s length.
KITCHEN SERVICE: No complaints. One time I got the barbeque platter and an older guy with a white beard came out and watched me eat for a little while. I guess he was proud of his food and wanted to see if I liked it.
COMPETITION: To my knowledge, there aren’t any other restaurants offering barbeque ribs and brisket right now – hence the reason I go here. For Italian food go to Venezia instead. For American food go to Maxwell’s instead. For a steak go to TK Prime instead.
ATMOSPHERE: I’ve only ever eaten in Woody’s, and not the main restaurant; the reason is because I typically dine alone, and if you show up at the front door by yourself, they will ask you to ask you to take a seat back there instead of in the dining room. Woody’s is a dive bar in the back; dimly lit, sticky tables, and two televisions for every customer showing whatever the current sports game is. There’s a mysterious downstairs room with a jukebox. The main restaurant seems bright and cheery, if a bit close.
