This is a hidden gem. It’s in the old church in East Lynn. If you need a good ribeye it’s worth the drive. Word of caution, smoking is allowed. The lunch time is best to avoid smoke. The ventilation is good enough to be tolerable. The servers are always kind and the food is so yummy. It’s all about the steak.

Overall this is a pretty neat place. A once-upon-a-time church converted into a Bar and Grill. If you are looking for an establishment to get some food and drinks in East Lynne, this is probably the best you will get in such a tiny town. They have a few steak options and some sandwiches. Its a rather small menu but its also a rather small place. Probably can’t sit more than 30 people.
The service was decent and the food was okay. The meals came out staggered and I really do not like that. Two people had side salads which were brought out prior to the meals or appetizers getting there. When the onion rings and loaded fries did come out, it was all your typical Sysco frozen to flash fried product. I am fairly sure the pork tenderloin was also a frozen product as well and that ran about $14 (had I known it was not made on site, I wouldn’t have ordered this option – I’m not into paying a premium for premade ‘slop’ I can find in a Walmart freezer and make at home). Two people at our table got steaks – New York Strip and Ribeye. Both decent. A little light in weight for the prices considering they range between $27-$30 PER steak. They were not serving steak sandwiches that night and the other two people got burgers instead. They said they tasted pretty good! The total for 5 people and two very small appetizers was $130. So about $25-$35 per person. Drinks (minus one water drinker at the table as a server was running around with a water pitcher) never got refills until finally offered as we were about to leave after being there about 90 minutes and finishing food.
Now my main gripe about this place is the fact this building is NOT at all ADA compliant. This is a business which is open to the public and as such they will serve all manner of clientele. In my party of 5 people, we had a member of our group who is disabled with mobility issues and it was very difficult for them to get in and out of the restaurant as there are 4 steps with only one very low handrail and an additional bump to get over at the door. Also, be aware the parking lot is a dirt and gravel lot. This is not easy for wheelchair/walker users to navigate.
It also somehow a smoking establishment. I didn’t realize this was legal anywhere anymore and it really felt like I stepped 30 years into the past in there! To my understanding smoking is permitted in bars where food sales constitute less than 25% of total sales. I honestly do not think this is the case for Fuglys, but that’s between them and the State of Missouri I guess. There was an exhaust system above the bar but the smoke is very heavy in the air.
So overall it was a pretty fun one-time experience. There is music and pool tables and they do have restrooms. Overall the place was clean. Very pricey for the location and what you get, but options are scarce there. Expect a bit of a wait, heavy cigarette smoke and no ramps or paved parking lot. Friendly service despite the okay-ish food.

Hands down THE BEST STEAK I have ever had!! The people were so friendly and helpful. The building is absolutely beautiful as well. It’s an old church and by old I mean 19th century!! It’s gorgeous!!! If you’re ever south of KC it’s totally worth the stop!!!

Our new favorite “church”/ restaurant. Located off the beaten path, this converted church is a local friendly hangout with food that is absolutely fresh, made to order excellence. We enjoyed the Fugley burger and Ruben with tots and crinkle fries and it was superb. We also had bloody Marys, on special for only $4! It had a large piece of the tastiest, crisp bacon Ive had in recent memory. The bartender was friendly, efficient, and fast and able to easily serve a full bar plus a table. The cook staff was excellent, as they were seen easily through a serving window behind the bar. The decor was unique and cool with pool table and jukebox.

Steak. I’ve eaten 100s or maybe 1000s of steaks. We have raised cattle my whole life. I ate steak for a snack when I was a child. The steak I had at Fugley’s was definitely in the top 5 of my lifetime. Delicious. Perfectly seasoned. Tender. Nice size. Reasonably priced too!

My stake was perfect! Exactly as ordered! If you love stake as much as I do, you know that it can be hard to get it the way you want it. Our waitress was great! Atmosphere was interesting. My only problem with the whole visit to Fugly’s was the cigarette smoke. I can’t believe that they allow smoking in the building but 2 of the people smoking inside the bar & grill were the owners. Unfortunately I can’t breathe in all of that smoke so I won’t be going back. It’s a shame, my stake was great.
