Typically we get decent service here. Today was not typical. I was on the phone with my husband as he ordered our dinner at the drive thru. The employee repeated his special order taco salad back to him word for word. No lettuce, double layer of meat and cheese. We both got taco salads, by the weight of his, it was easy to tell his from mine. But we both got surprises opening out boxes. All of my toppings were sitting in the corner of the box, as though some broken machine had attempt to add them to the salad portion and completely missed. His was just as full of lettuce as mine. With double meat and double cheese. JUST LETTUCE, none of the other toppings. Just the one he specifically asked not to have. We were both starved, it’s late. We ate what we were given. But, so wholly disappointed. I should have listened to Joe Pesci.

Taco John’s was great! I went through the drive-thru, and there was no line because I was doing a late lunch today. I ordered two Cruncho Nacho Burritos. I hope that’s the name of the menu items, but each burrito cost $2 and some change. The total including tax was on the good side of $4.50, so I felt like i got a pretty reasonable lunch. The employee was professional and fast. The parking lot seemed clean and well-maintained. I’m sure I’ll be back.

From out of town, first time at a Taco John’s. Not bad, we had a beef burrito, super burrito and a crunchy chicken burrito.
My wife had the super burrito- it was good, nothing bad, nothing special.
I had the beef burrito- loved it! Great flavor, plenty of beef, similar to what I make at home. Wish it had a little more cheese but still good item.
I ordered the crunchy chicken out of curiosity- not good, the chicken by itself was good, then rest was just cheese sauce with stale corn chips, very little flavor, I do not recommend this item. Didn’t even finish it.
The sauce packets- I had both original and hot. The hot was hotter than expected, not a bad flavor. The original has a (my opinion) bad flavor. Really disappointed in the sauces, might have made a difference on the chicken burrito. ?
I would recommend trying Taco John’s if you are looking for a decent priced beef item, wish I had tried the tacos. Maybe next time because I would try them again.

This is my first time ever having any Taco John’s and can say that it is probably the worst taco fast food place I’ve ever had. My boyfriend thinks maybe it’s just this restaurant in Ankeny as he has had it before and he says it’s been way better. Ordered a steak quesadilla, the cheese wasn’t even melted — so it was basically a shredded cheese tortilla with brisket? It was supposed to be steak, but tasted nowhere close. He ordered a chicken quesadilla and half of it was empty, nothing in it. I ordered a steak Boss Burrito and it was all rice and the steak was gross! Never coming back here again and I hope whoever is reading this decides to go to another location.

We now live in Texas and miss our Taco Johns from ND. Every time we come north, we stop when we can. For the last 4 years, we have come through Ankeny and have stopped to this Taco Johns and they are and continue to be great.
It has been a nice meal to look forward to each year. And they have not let us down.

My orders have always been accurate , and fast. On one occasion I made an online order that needed fixing, and the staff inside fixed it during peak hours. This location has great staff, the resturant is always clean and welcoming.
