We were really excited about this place because we were craving Thai food and a specific type of vibe, and this place seemed to fit our mood perfectly. The atmosphere is very well put together and nostalgic – absolutely immaculate, we would come again to grab some fresh rolls and a drink just for the vibes!

The problem – unfortunately, the food. We were recommended to try the Fried Chicken Skins (Nang Gai Tod) as an appetizer, which sounded amazing. It’s a hefty plate and very crispy with a tiny bit of chew, but very bland and basically just a blank canvas for the sauce. My date was super let down because he was expecting it to taste more like the delicious skins you peel off a piece in a bucket of fried chicken. I wasn’t as disappointed because I didn’t go into it with any expectations, but we both agreed that it really needed salt or something. We didn’t ask the waiter for salt because we didn’t want to be tacky, but I would recommend that the restaurant serve this with a side of optional seasoning so people can experiment and enhance it to their liking.

As entrees, my date got the Pineapple Fried Rice (Khao Pad Saparhod), which was a huge portion and gorgeous, but tasted very heavily of old oil. He couldn’t bring himself to finish it, and I couldn’t bring myself to help.

The best meal by far was the Khao Mun Gai Tod. The chicken was PERFECT, moist and beautifully crisp. But at the end of the day, that was a $22 pile of plain white rice with a few slices of (delicious) fried chicken on top (maybe only half a thigh’s worth) and a side of what tastes almost exactly like wonton soup broth. All very tasty, but lackluster and not worth paying a restaurant to make for you. I can appreciate if it’s just a simple dish, but it really needed less rice, more chicken and something to dress up the presentation a little, because otherwise it really just felt like something I would normally throw together for myself at home. (I didn’t think to take a picture of it until I’d already dug in – the picture is more to represent how simple it was)

We truly aren’t picky people with refined palates. Even average food with a fun vibe is enough for us to have a great time, but unfortunately the food actually detracted from the atmosphere during our experience here. We hoped to grab a seat upstairs and have a couple more drinks to attempt to salvage the evening, but the limited seating upstairs was all taken and it’s really more of a standing / dancing kind of environment that we weren’t in the mood for, so I can’t really speak to that.

Again, we would come back after 9:30 to enjoy a familiar appetizer and a few drinks for sure!

This was a great spot! I’m rating my experience based off of their happy hour menu. There was a fantastic discount on food and drink prices but no shortcomings in food flavors and quality ingredients! I will say that as someone who is not very sensitive to spice I would recommend that you pick a spice level one below your typical because my dish was almost a little too hot. Good music and environment! Highly recommend happy hour.

Recently stopped by this location with some friends. The initial ambiance of the restaurant was wonderful, especially with the lighting and music. Unfortunately, the food and service was sub-par. The drinks are fairly expensive with my Thai iced tea being $8 dollars ($9.6 if you include the mandatory 22% service fee), and the tea itself was much too sweet—to the degree I was unable to finish my drink. The Popiah Sod (fresh rolls) were incredibly sticky and crumbly, and ripped when I tried to pull them apart. The accompanying sauce was also a bit gummy and had an odd aftertaste. I also ordered the Popiah Sod with shrimp which was my mistake, as the shrimp were so incredibly soft and mushy it threw off the texture of the dish. If eating here, I would suggest ordering other dishes. Regarding the service, the waiter was incredibly rude, with one of his comments actually silencing our table. Getting seated we were also treated a bit dismissively, which was definitely different than in most restaurants. I would also have appreciated if the 22% service fee were larger or more legible, as with the low lighting in the restaurant I failed to notice until I had already added an additional 20% tip to my bill (which I feel shouldn’t be a mistake patrons can make, as I ended up paying almost $40 dollars for a drink and an appetizer, as they prompt you to tip again while paying).

Lucked into Sugar Hill while looking for eats on our way up to Broadway. They have an awesome happy hour, so I ducked in and asked if minors were okay. I got the thumbs up, so in we went.

The atmosphere is top notch and the vibe is on point. From the records on the walls to the music selection made it really special.

We had crab fried rice, two kinds of Pad Thai, and two appetizers. Everyone loved the flavor and the prep. Even with a garlic allergy the staff worked with us to feel welcome and special.

Everyone on staff was friendly and genuine. My daughters felt like they were in the most grown-up place they’d ever experience. The staff was really welcoming, it was just great. I’m stingy with my 5’s but Sugar Hill earned it.

We stumbled upon this hidden gem on Instagram and couldn’t resist checking it out. It’s a two-level venue, but the dance floor is located upstairs! The DJ was absolutely amazing, playing a fantastic mix of new and old school R&B and Hip Hop. Despite the younger crowd in the area(guessing close to UW and in Capital Hill), the vibe and music were perfect for anyone looking to have a great time. I didn’t get to try any of the food, but the girl next to me had wings that looked and smelled delicious. I’ll definitely make sure to try those next time. The drinks were good and reasonably priced. Overall, it was a fantastic night out exploring a new spot!

Overall, the food is not bad but expensive for their portion sizes, the vibe is cool, but it’s ruined by the terrible service. I recently went with a group of 5 people and over 10 minutes after the first one of us had received their food and 5 minutes after the fourth one of us got their food my food was still missing. When our waiter was nearby, I politely asked him if he could check in my food, to which he cut me off and rudely told me that he was well aware of what I had ordered and to not bother him. Afterward, when my food came (after another five minute wait), it was lukewarm at best and cold by the time I finished my meal. I ordered the larb and for the price, the portion was laughably small and I was still hungry after eating. 22% gratuity came included so I was unable to even express my dissatisfaction with the way we were treated.

My friend and I were heading to another bar and were drawn in be the vibes. When we walked upstairs we knew we were where we needed to be. There is a DJ booth right above the stairs playing culturally diverse music that seemed to really fit the energy of the space.

I love that it isn’t too large of a space, felt intimate and very welcoming to all people. We only had drinks but in interested in coming back for a papaya salad.

I’m here every Friday and Saturday ordering drinks until closing. It’s a very nice place and good music but for the first time I walked in on a Thursday night to use the bathroom and whoever the gentleman was who I speak with. Was very rude and because I wanted to use the bathroom. He was upset because I did not order food because using the restroom and watched me with a dirty look on his face the entire time I walked into the bathroom and the whole time I left. Made me very uncomfortable. For someone who’s cleaning dishes please lower your pride. It’s just a bathroom I didn’t ask for free service and or anything outrageous. It also doesn’t come out of ur pocket if I pee in the bathroom buddy
