Truly a hidden gem! Their entire seafood menu is super fresh and the tuna nachos are beyond belief and (like everything else) melts in your mouth. A must visit!

Food was only average. Clam chowder liquid was thin. My mussels were small and rather dry. Not much flavor. Service was chaotic but my hostess said it was unusual. Lovely outdoor eating area. I would give it a second chance as my host and hostess love the place So I am going to hope my experience was not typical.

We tried the Chowda House tonight and we’re very happy and full! 8 months ago our experience would have been zero stars. If you were not happy 8 months ago, give them a try again! Fish and chips are their speciality. The pan seared scallops were the best! The soup was full of flavor and thick. We were very happy!

Got to Jersey really hungry after a long journey. This place has DELICIOUS seafood. Because it was midday on a random weekday my friend and I were one of the few people there. But the food was served pretty fast and the waiter was really friendly. A good experience upon arriving at Red Bank!

Went there the other night and was very disappointed. Clam chowder was ok nothing to rave about. My wife ordered fish and chips and they came out not cooked all the way, the batter was still raw under the crisp layer. We told them and they refried the partially eaten pieces to cook them more. I ordered the lobster roll and it was $25 for a hot dog bun. I don’t mind spending money on food but thought that was steep for such a small roll. We will not be returning

Such good seafood!!! It’s such a cute and cozy place, very romantic great for a night out. They have speciality drinks and the chowder is soooo good. I ordered the plate of 12 steamers and they were cooked to perfection. I haven’t had the chance to go back but when I’m in the area again I will.

Way cool Key West outdoor patio hidden in back. Inside main Dining area woody and nautical with window seats and wood tables viewing the train station. Friendly staff, the chef and prep staff even waived! As others have noted the food here is excellent. The Spring Rolls were super fresh, the fish lunch flavorful and well prepared in an authentic waterfront kitchen dining style. Didn’t know it was so hip over here a couple blocks from the waterfront. Our server, M, was gracious enough to show us around on a slow day. It is obvious these folks are serious about quality.Another great find in Red Bank. Great eats!

The Chowda House looks like a little hole in the wall, but my boyfriend & I moved to Jersey from New England, so we were excited to give it a try. We went for lunch on a Friday & pretty pleased with the whole experience.
The restaurant is located about 100 steps from the train tracks, which makes it an easy stop for anyone who’s just coming through the area or who doesn’t feel like driving into Red Bank. That said, there’s street parking & for free at the train station after 11am.
The inside of this place is seriously cute. Someone has put a lot of work into making this place nice! It’s small but polished, done up in dark, shiny wood with authentic but not over-the-top nautical touches, including big, ship-style, arched doorways into the bathroom. There’s also a great patio out back, too, which would be perfect on a sunny day.
My boyfriend ordered the raw bar (three clams & three oysters) with a cup of New England clam chowder. They also serve Manhattan clam chowder, but we wanted the real thing! I’m not as big a seafood fan, & pickins were a little slim for tastes like mine – a “land lubber soup” (chicken & rice that day), veggie sides, a couple of chicken options. Ultimately, I wanted to try something seafoody at such a restaurant, so I went with the buttermilk fried shrimp, which came with a side of fries & coleslaw.
We loved the little “on the house” surprise appetizer of spicy cucumber salad that came out before our meal. It was also a welcome warning that the waitress told us we might find a few jalapeños in there! My boyfriend was really happy with the raw bar – said he referred the oysters to the clams, but that’s a general preference, not just an at-this-restaurant preference – & was also pleased with the chowder, which came out piping hot & definitely didn’t taste canned. My shrimp were big & plump, served with some of the best, freshest homemade fries I’ve had in awhile. I don’t eat coleslaw, but he took my side & said it was great, too.
Service was better & more attentive than at most places. Our server was friendly & kept our water glasses refilled, & out meals came out quickly but not TOO quickly. At one point, the cook came out to check in on how we liked the food, & we had nothing but good things to say. To top it off, our whole bill came out to just $25 including tip! That’s a huge feat for a delicious meal in spendy Red Bank.
We’re looking forward to going back to The Chowda House for another go-round of seriously legit seafood at the Jersey Shore.

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!! Horrible experience, went there for dinner with my family. I ordered the tricombo platter which is about 27$ one would expect a fair amount of food with that no i got 3 nickle sized scallops, 6-8 pieces of coconut shrimp that did not taste like coconut, and a thin flappy piece of flounder all of which had no good flavor! The scallops were seared in some kind of oil and not butter, really needs to be seasoned! The flounder was coated in some kind of paprika blend which was disgusting. We got two appetizers fried calamari and mozzarella sticks, the mozzarella sticks tasted like fish, they really need to seperate where they fry there stuff, the calamari was absolutely flavorless. My wife and aunt both got shrimp scampi with dry scallops, the scallops were horribly over cooked and unseasoned, the scampi sauce was only put on after the fact when we told the server what we ordered after she tried to tell us we ordered something different, even as we ordered what we wante dthe server told us we’re out of this we’re out of that. To top it off the server tried to charge us 20 more than the actual cost of what we ordered.

What a disaster… I don’t even know where to begin.. Clam chowder is basically watered down heavy cream with pieces of potato and chopped clams (so gross) had no salt. I ordered fish and chips – the fries were old (could tell because potatoes were discolored) AND BURNT. We could tell the fries were cooked in the same oil as the fish… And no – old burnt fishy fries are NOT appetizing at all. Lobster roll is TINY. The few bites I shared with my bf were ok – but for $25 lobster roll – I’d expect a little more… They also served us a sad piece of lemon to tie the whole sorry meal together. I will not be coming back.
