Very welcoming and friendly staff from the moment we walked in. The restaurant has a genuinely authentic Japanese atmosphere, which adds to the overall experience.
We ordered the sushi lunch specials. The rice was clearly high quality, properly seasoned and well-prepared and the sushi itself was fresh and well-balanced.
Their specialty rolls also looked very interesting, and I would definitely like to come back to try some of those next time.
A solid lunch spot that delivers both on quality and ambiance.

Visited Izakaya Wa – River Oaks while in Houston for a family dinner. The atmosphere was lively yet relaxed, with that authentic izakaya feel that works well for both groups and casual nights out. The service was friendly and efficient, and everything moved smoothly despite a full room. We tried a variety of dishes across the table — well-prepared, flavorful, and meant to be shared, which made the experience even better. The beers were nice and cold, exactly what you want alongside this style of food. Overall, a solid spot with good energy, quality food, and definitely worth a return visit. Saluti

First time to Izakaya Wa a week ago and felt like I’d been transported to Osaka. The food and drinks were amazing particularly the sashimi. I loved the vibe and it’s a great place to come with friends or just dining alone. Special thank you to Asano-san for making it a memorable night… lovely to meet you. I’ll definitely be back soon.

This Japanese restaurant offers fresh and high-quality food, but with the price paid, I expected even better quality and more generous portion sizes. While the ingredients are fresh, the overall experience felt a bit underwhelming considering the cost.
Service-wise, there’s definitely room for improvement. A more genuine greeting, better attention to detail, and thoughtful menu recommendations would elevate the dining experience. On the other hand, the busboys did a fantastic job—efficiently clearing empty dishes with great manners, which kept the table tidy throughout the meal. The restroom was also clean, which is always a plus.
One thing to note is that parking is now paid, which might be an inconvenience for some. Overall, it’s a decent spot with potential, but refining both the service and portion sizes would make it a better value. Four out of five stars.

Loved the atmosphere and freshness of the fish here. Delicious tuna and Katsu. Service could be a bit faster. Also relatively pricey for an Izakaya

Food is amazing! Tuna melts in your mouth and the curry for the chicken katsu is so flavorful! We were able to get a table for two without a reservation on Friday evening, but reservations are recommended.

I took my girlfriend here for my birthday because she wanted to treat me to lunch and its one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Houston. As expected, the service was very warm and friendly as soon as we entered the front doors. The food was very good, as always. I wish the pork katsu was sliced a little thicker. Sweeteners were not at the table, so I guess you have to ask for some. The chairs could use a little more padding. Especially the benches. The little moveable cushion is a little comical. The nigiri sushi is very good quality as well as the rolls. The waiter recommended the Memorial Roll and it was spot on a great recommendation. The steamed rice serving that came with my meal was well cooked but I wish it had been stickier. Overall the food was great. My gf enjoyed it very much. It was a great choice for my birthday lunch.

Second visit here and somehow it was even better than I remembered.
The service and food were spectacular. Scoring the private room was a really nice surprise. I’d had beef udon years ago and hated it, but here it was unbelievably delicious — total redemption arc. I’ll definitely be coming back more often.
That udon really said, “You judged me too soon.”

Every time I pass by I thought it was an upper scale restaurant, but when I finally tried it and I was little disappointed. Casual dining nothing fancy, too loud, and expensive.
The waitress wasn’t a great help as I am not familiar with a Japanese cuisine, she recommended some dishes that were appetizers ( the skewers ), paid $82 for 2 persons with No drinks we had water. The seating is not comfortable.
2 hours later we were hungry again.
