I needed some good food for the soul while visiting my father in law in the hospital & whats better than soul food! I found Granny’s was just down the street & I gave it a try! The Mac n cheese was unreal! I literally have no words! I would eat it all day everyday if I could!
I also got the 2 & 2 with cornbread (so sweet & not dry at all!)
I got red beans & rice & greens! Best flavored greens I’ve had in a long time
The fried chicken was seasoned to perfection & the catfish damn near melted in my
I rounded out with a fresh lemonade & peach cobbler that smells so devinly of cinnamon when I opened it I actually drooled
The staff were welcoming & friendly & kind as were the partons. I’ll be back for sure! Even if I just come up for lunch! Worth the 2 hour drive! Thanks Granny

Saw this gem on Tik Tok! We were warmly welcomed, service was exceptional. We literally felt like home. Met Granny and Tish..the most sweetest down to earth people. It was my friend’s birthday and they went over and beyond making her feel special. Just an overall positive and genuine interaction. The food was good, nice portions, everything is made to order. Definitely will come back.

New find! Soul Food restaurants are hard to find, this little gem is in downtown Stockton. We met Granny and family. This is real soul food. The greens are spicy with a slight sweetness. The catfish is the best in town. Pork chops are crispy and delicious. The yams are just right, more clove than sweet. But the Mac and cheese was perfect. The Woolaid sweet and amazing Highly recommend. Run don’t walk to Granny’s

I went to granny’s kitchen on a Sunday which may have been my 1st mistake. Upon entering there was a sign that gave you the expected wait time for diffrent items on their menu which while lacking tact was helpful. We sat ourselves down and waited approximately 35 min before our order was even taken. But eventually we did order we got chicken and the turkey legs with yams and Mac n cheese and a secondary choice of cabbage because they were not serving collars. After exactly 54 min our order was ready for us to take home. We were unable to eat there because the restaurant was reserved for a party. Any how we get home only to find that the food we waited nearly an hour for was mediocre at best. The turkey wing while tender lacked seasoning and flavor. The fried chicken was OK not anything that I would write home about but edible. The yams were well hard to explain if you look at them they look perfect like the yams you get at thanksgiving that one of your aunties made. But when you tasted the yams they tasted the way a cigarette smells if that makes any sense at all. I said they were hard to explain. But in all fairness it was explained that they were short staffed that’s why I gave them an extra star because I get it, given the circumstances they deserve some grace. Overall the food for me was just barely OK except the yams they were less than tasty. But in a pinch if you are pressed for time try Granny’s out, hopefully they are having a better day and maybe it will show up in the food.

Place is fairly new I’m excited for them and how things will turn out in the future. I ordered the turkey wings plate with mac and string beans . My cousin ordered the pork chops with yams and mac. The food was seasoned very well everything tasted good. I asked the young lady how long have they been open they said less than a month. I will be returning . The place is fairly new but over time I feel like the restaurant will flourish in all aspects . And food is Cooked to order so you will be waiting. Thankyou and good job ladies keep up good work. Stockton really don’t have a lot of good options when it comes to food. Glad I found this spot

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a bit and finally had the opportunity to do so. I went in and placed an order for peach cobbler, red beans only without rice, and collard greens. However, I did tell them that I just wanted the beans without the rice. The woman who took my order was very nice. Often another woman would ask me if what I ordered was really what I wanted, in which I confirmed.

Upon receiving my order I noticed the bill was higher than expected. The total was about $23.00. I checked the itemized receipt and compared it to their menu price. Clearly the menu says $4.95 for the red beans and rice. To my surprise, I was charged $9.50 for a side of the red beans and rice. (The peach cobbler was $6.95, although it wasn’t on the menu). I went back in and questioned why I was charged $9.50 for a side that said $4.95. The woman told me because it’s $4.95 for the red beans and $4.95 for the rice, although I didn’t order or get any rice, I was still charged for it. She also said that the $9.50 charge shows up on their register, but not on their menu.

I’ve ordered red beans and rice numerous times from other establishments and this is the first time I’ve ever been charged separately for an item that is known to come together. They could have at least made this clear. Red beans and rice is a dish combo like chicken and waffles or shrimp and grits. You wouldn’t be charged separately for the chicken and for the waffle. It didn’t make sense to me. Unfortunately, because of this and the lack of clarity I and the others with me won’t go back. The red beans were actually good and the peach cobbler was okay. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the greens though, since I found them too sweet for my liking. Basically, this is just an FYI for people who want to order a side of red beans and rice and not a plate.

Response to owner’s reply:
I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I am definitely not trying to destroy your business, as I was just simply stating my own experience. Coming off as negative was not my intent and by no means am I trying to tell you how to run your establishment. However, the personal attack and disparaging remarks in your message are uncalled for and unwarranted.

As stated in my original post, the charge was questioned and I simply stated what I was told by the employee and accepted it as policy of the restaurant. I also did not receive the rice with the beans, and was still charged for both, and despite this being brought to the attention of a staff member, it was not corrected.

I am familiar with what à la carte and side items are, and I fully understand that it is your right as a business owner to decide pricing and how items are separated. My issue was never with your right to do so, but with the lack of clarity on the menu and how it was handled once it was brought to the attention of a staff member. Being charged separately for beans and separately for rice when the menu lists them together was misleading to me, and that was the sole point of my post.

I also want to note that I did compliment the red beans in my original review and acknowledged that the staff was kind, which is not an attempt at negativity. If I experienced an unexpected charge for a dish that is traditionally considered one item, I would mention it regardless of the type of cuisine. My intent was simply to give others a heads-up or FYI, so they know what to expect.

I fully respect that you’re a new business and that running one comes with expenses and challenges. At the same time, customer feedback — even when it’s not glowing — is part of running a business, and clarity around pricing helps avoid situations like this altogether.

I genuinely wish your business success and appreciate the response.

We just finished a great dinner at Granny’s. The turkey wings over rice was very tasty. I enjoyed the chicken wings as well. The fried shrimp, cabbage, mac and cheese and candied yams were very good. The service was the best. We had a nice conversation with Leticia, the owner and Granny her mother. Granny can throw down!.

There is so much to say…
Food: Every plate was wrong and or missing something. Food flavors were inconsistent from plate to plate even for the same items. Seasoning was inconsistent (shrimp and they all tasted different and were either too salty of bland). Ordered chicken wings but got 2 big 8$$ drumsticks (but i dnt like drumsticks which is why i ordered wings ) Mac n cheese wasn’t chesse’n, Greens were salty, Cornbread (not hitn nor buttered)
Service: tablecloth was dirty, the cook handled one plate with the same gloves worn to Flour the chicken.
However the waitress and cook were very kind and tried to make the experience pleasant-ish considering it was hotter that hot in there. But Granny was very snappy and rude. She was saying little smart remarks under her breath regarding people not eating all their food and rolling her eyes when we would need things like more water, hot sauce and napkins. Overall it was an expensive experience but not necessarily a good experience. I hope they make shine much needed adjustments moving forward. Sorry just speaking my truth ‍♀️

Let me tell you I’ve been searching far and wide in all the lands for some authentic soul food. I think this would by far be the closest thing I’ll get around 209, catfish is soooo crunchy and Mac n cheese dosent play around. I will be going back!❤️
