To start; we come in get seated, cool so far, order and drinks and whatnot. Then we wait like 20 minutes for the drinks to be made – mind you it’s not busy but whatever I get it. Problem was, we ordered 3 salted caramel espresso martinis and they tasted like someone took 3 salt shakers and dumped one fully into each martini. It was like licking the Utah salt flats. Terrible drink!
Anyways we tell the server and she says “we can’t return drinks or get them remade due to policy” – insane btw cuz bartenders AKA PEOPLE make mistakes all the time – and then she says “salted caramel espresso martinis are supposed to taste salty” ya like no shi Sherlock. But not that salty!! Like what!! So then we are stuck with $30+ of drinks we hate. She then turns to me and says “awww sowwy you couldn’t handle it ” like what! What in the demeaning hell! I order myself beer from here on out.
Anyways we get over it, order food and move on. Except when the food comes out, it’s nasty and missing ingredients!! And the chicken bacon ranch flatbread had no bacon, the cheesesteak meat was overcooked, way too chewy, and the cheese looked like it came from a can (probably down). It didn’t even taste good either 🙁 Fries were cold and tasted bad. Like that taste when the fry is cooled down and they just break apart in your mouth. That last picture is a cut of the bourbon salmon. It was also missing a bunch of ingredients that were supposed to come with it. The whole thing pretty much looked like that, it was nasty.
The bourbon burger did get a thumbs up tho, so I guess those are pretty good.
Anyways the only thing that is good here seems to be the golf simulator in the back, that thing is sick. If you come here I wouldn’t get any cocktails since if they are made wrong or taste bad they can’t be remade or anything, I’d just order a bunch of beer, a burger, and go play golf in the back.
The owners are hands on and genuinely care about the experience they are creating, and it shows in every detail. The food is consistently great, and the drinks are always amazing. Every cocktail is thoughtfully made and never disappoints.
Tuesday night bingo is such a fun touch and brings great energy to the room. It is something to look forward to and makes a regular weeknight feel special.
Smith’s is one of those places you bring friends because you know it will be a good time. Food, drinks, atmosphere, and people all hit the mark every single time.
I might be kind of glazing but my girlfriend and I didn’t expect the experience to be that amazing…they will definitely be seeing us again. My compliments to the chef…he outdid himself/herself.
For appetizers we had the fried mozzarella and meatballs. Never had fried mozzarella like that before. It was a pleasant surprise. You could taste the spices in the meatballs and you could tell the sauce was hand made. It wasn’t frozen meat they heated up and slapped sauce on. It was well thought out and well made. I had the smash burger and it was really good. A lot of flavors and very juicy. My girlfriend had the salmon and she loved it. She also raved about the Caesar salad. She said it was fresh and tasty.
Overall awesome food, service and eating environment!
They had a few big groups in but our waitress and the kitchen had no problems keeping up.
The location itself is also awesome – love the look and vibe of the building!
Super cool place, awesome food, great service – we will absolutely be back again and again!
The host greeted us with genuine enthusiasm and made us feel welcome right away. Their energy set a great tone for the meal. Our server was equally impressive, attentive without being overbearing, and quick to ensure our needs were met throughout the evening.
As for the food, it was a highlight! I ordered the fish, which was perfectly cooked—flaky, flavorful, and paired with a great sauce that elevated the dish. My daughter’s mother went for the nachos, which were loaded with fresh toppings and had just the right balance of crunch and cheesiness. She couldn’t stop raving about them. My daughter, a burger enthusiast, loved her burger and fries. The patty was juicy, the bun was toasted just right, and the fries were crispy and well-seasoned.
The vibe at Smith’s American Tavern is cozy yet lively, making it a great spot for families or casual outings. The combination of great food, an awesome host, and a solid server made this a memorable meal. We’ll definitely be back! Highly recommend for anyone in Lakeland looking for a satisfying dining experience.
