A neighborhood Shanghai cusine restaurant run by a couple. With very limited resources, customers really need to have patience and call ahead for large groups and reserve special dishes. The dishes were a hit and miss kind, some were good, some were not so good. Family style!

My party was standing in the front for about 5 mins waiting to be seated because there was only one lady. Foods were kinda salty overall and not very traditional. Portions were just ok. Will not give it a second chance.

I bought 2 items which are fried pork spareribs and orange chicken. Both of the meats were frozen. I didn’t get a spare ribs but cutlet frozen pork instead. When I bite it, I saw all the white stuff inside the coating because the meat was frozen. The meat is dry and hard to chew and it was salty as well. The orange chicken is not an orange chicken but tasted more like sweet and sour chicken. Not even sweet and sour because it smells and taste more like tomato sauce. The taste is plain sour like tomato sauce. The meat is also frozen. I came home and my eldest child had a bite of the pork and said, “nah ah. No thank you.” No one wants to eat it and it cost me over $37 for a medium size to go box. I’m so sad. I had to rush to make dinner which I was trying to skip and very reasoning in buying food. This will be my 1st and last. Never again. Lady was nice though. But food is awful.

Great food! Everything was delicious here with great price!
Ordered the steamed fish, the crispy chicken with oil and the tofu with mushrooms and cabbage. Also got the Shanghai pan friend buns as appetizer. All well seasoned and yummy!
The crispy chicken was especially good, with the chicken deeply fried in oil, soaked in slightly sweet sauce. The steamed fish was very fresh and with a hint of steam fish oil and scallions, making it enjoyable. I love the pan fried buns too as it was authentic and full of hot, flavorful soup. The tofu was good too, though not as impressive as other ones.
Overall a very good restaurant indeed.

this is truly one of the most authentic shanghainese restaurants in the cupertino and san jose area. their specialty is the sheng jian bao (pan-fried buns) and xiao long bao (soup dumplings). this restaurant is usually not busy at all, but the service can still be a tad bit slow due to limited workers. the prices have also gone up recently, but the quality is still authentic nonetheless.

Definitely a hole in the wall Shanghai restaurant. Nothing fancy about the place. 6-8 tables with little decor. Just so good, so inexpensive, so yummy. Besides, all the 3 dishes (total $19.50+T) we had are not as greasy as the ones at most Chinese restaurants.
Unlike some cheap restaurants, the Oriental Gourmet accept major credit cards, incl. Amex.
It also looks quite clean and parking is pretty easy.

It is located in a quiet corner of the plaza, small, but clean. It’s green tea is very good. I liked its 西湖牛肉羹,楼外楼冬笋腐竹,大豆苗。蒙古牛is a little greasy but fresh。The waitress is nice. If you are looking for home-made authentic CHINESE good, quiet, not extravagant environment, then this is for you.

Solid Shanghainese food. Very authentic, just like my mother’s cooking. I regret I kept putting off coming here for so many years.

Ordered ahead of time for lunch takeout. What I love about this place is that they don’t add any MSG. Got kung pao chicken, Mongolian beef, Peking spareribs and white rice. They were all delicious and flavorful.
