The location was inside of the Hollywood Casino in Toledo, Ohio. The greater could have been a little more welcoming and actually walked us to a table. We had reservations, but was told to go and pick a table when we arrived. The waiter who came to the table did not give any instructions on how to order or that part of the menu was on a chalk board on the wall. After 15 minutes of looking at table menu, we were finally told to check the wall and she walked away. No explanation or further instructions.
The food was very, very good. I would go as far as to say was outstanding. Was fresh, hot, flavor filled and perfect portion size for the cost. My wife who is sushi lover, indiacted the sushi was fresh and also worth the price.
Work on the customer service and this place could get a 5/5.

The Sashimi is some of the best I’ve ever had for freshness and taste. The sushi rolls are very small not very tight but the taste is there. If you have some comp money and a taste for sushi stop in. My only negative comment is that for such a nice restaurant they have a clipboard with paper pieces attached as a drink menu on the tables. It’s also a necessity to have the server explain the chalkboard menu to you otherwise you have no idea what’s inside of what you’re ordering.

The beverage and front-of-house services were good. The restaurant maintained cleanliness, organization, and ambiance. While acknowledging that flavor preferences are subjective, I must address an issue with my order: the otoro and chutoro sashimi were initially served as nigiri. Upon returning the dish, the rice was simply removed, leaving the wasabi from the original preparation on the fish. This resulted in the back piece having wasabi on both sides, which unfortunately overwhelmed the flavor of the toro. I would still give it a second chance and encourage you to try it, as friends and family have had good experiences here, and perhaps this was just an off day.

The experience was lack luster from top to bottom. The dining room feels like a crowded after thought. The drinks were uninspired. The citrus was brown. The service was disappointing. The food was mediocre at best. The chalk board menu and laminated flip book menu were low brow.

Want to start by saying how much I love OG kengo. But our meal tonight was seriously lacking. Everything tasted like it was a day old. Rice was cold and crunchy/stale. The fish was extremely cold and not fresh at all. Even the waygu was served cold. I don’t know how you can’t cook that to order. They are charging kengo prices but giving you less than half the quality. Extremely disappointed and would advise to only go to the main location downtown.
Never had a bad experience at the downtown location but I feel like since this is in the casino they simply do not care to hold them to the same standards.

The food and experience at Shobu was awesome. Everything was delicious. The potstickers were amazing, the rolls were full of flavor and the salmon entree was soo good! I would highly recommend and will certainly be back!

I love Kengo, but shobu lacks in execution. The service just doesn’t live up to the food quality. I know they try, but I’ve been here many times and the service doesn’t equate to the prices and food quality, period. It just doesn’t and it needs to be better. I get that the service staff are good people and try their best, but I’ve just had too many below average experiences with the service. I wish that weren’t the case, but I cannot deny the reality.

This was my first visit & will be my last. I give the food quality a
“Zero” star rating. Ordered a 6 ounce teriyaki steak, it was approx. 3/8″ thk. & it was a FLANK STEAK with an off the shelf teriyaki glaze on top. I requested a steak knife & the waitress said we only have (1) knife for the entire restaurant & it was a butter knife, “REALLY”. I picked up the steak like a slice of pizza, tried to bite through it, WOW ! what a piece of crap, tough as hell. If you want to experience this steak just pour teriyaki sauce on a
horse saddle, Jaws the shark would have a tough time with it.
Plus the steamed rice was under cooked.
I wasted 45 min. of my life at this dump, it will never happen again.

I am writing to express my profound disappointment with my recent dining experience at your restaurant.. As an avid sushi enthusiast, I had high expectations for my visit, especially after flying in from Florida specifically to dine at your establishment. Unfortunately, my experience fell significantly short of those expectations.
The most glaring issues were with the quality of the sushi served. The tempura shrimp sushi rolls were served cold, and the parley roll charred uni was also cold. When I brought this to the attention of our waitress, I was informed that “sushi is cold.” While I understand that certain types of sushi can be served at room temperature, the cold temperature of these particular dishes was clearly not in line with standard sushi preparation. This significantly impacted the taste and overall dining experience.
In addition to the issues with the food, I found the service to be lacking. The waitress’s dismissive response to my concern was unprofessional and did not align with the level of customer service one would expect from a restaurant with your reputation.
Given the effort and expense involved in traveling to your restaurant, this experience was particularly disappointing. I hope you will take this feedback seriously and make the necessary improvements to ensure that other customers do not encounter similar issues in the future.
I would appreciate a response to this letter, detailing the steps you intend to take to address these concerns. Thank you for your attention.
