Very welcoming atmosphere with delicious food! The tacos here were great, very favorable, and filling. I’m glad I found my new taco spot! Will definitely come back. Pretty affordable too with nice staff and customers. The market section has a ton of products and fresh meat options.

OMG. Best Mexican food in 3 states. The flavors will blow your mind. The salsa is made with green rosta chillies. This is best I’ve had in a long time. You wont be disappointed.

If you’re looking for some good authentic Mexican food then this is the place. It situated all the way at the back of the store, but it’s worth the trip! It lacks color and ambience, but it makes up for that by serving some great fresh guacamole and spicy or not too spicy sauces with chips. I tried different tacos and the Pastor Tacos were my fave.

Nestled at the back of a quaint Mexican grocery store in Sterling, IL, La Laguna Mexican restaurant is a hidden gem that truly encapsulates the essence of authentic Mexican cuisine. From the moment you step in, the warm welcome of chips and hot sauce sets the tone for a culinary adventure that’s both engaging and delightful.
The steak tacos, a perennial favorite, are a testament to the kitchen’s commitment to flavor and quality. Each bite is a harmonious blend of tender, perfectly seasoned meat, fresh toppings, and soft tortillas. However, the real game-changer for me has been their Gorditas. On my latest visit, I decided to venture beyond my usual order, and I’m thrilled to say the Gorditas have stolen my heart. Stuffed with an abundance of savory fillings, these Gorditas boast a perfect texture and depth of flavor that elevates them to “new favorite” status.
The hot sauce lineup is not for the faint-hearted, ranging from the eye-watering kick of habanero to the nuanced heat of red chili, the tangy zest of tomatillo, and the creamy richness of avocado. Each sauce offers a distinct flavor profile, allowing diners to customize their dishes to their desired level of spice.
La Laguna’s ability to offer such authentic Mexican fare at reasonable prices is indeed commendable. The culinary experience here rivals that of the offerings found on the border towns of Texas and Mexico, which is no small feat. The charm of La Laguna lies not just in its food but in the overall experience – from the unassuming location within a grocery store to the genuine hospitality and the vibrant flavors that await within.
For anyone craving genuine Mexican cuisine without the need for a passport, La Laguna in Sterling, IL, is a must-visit. It’s a testament to the rich culinary traditions of Mexico, served up with a side of charm and warmth that’s as inviting as the food is delicious. Whether you’re a seasoned aficionado of Mexican cuisine or a curious newcomer, La Laguna promises an unforgettable dining experience that’s bound to leave you planning your next visit.

Amazing food. Needs work for the dining experience, but that doesn’t take away anything from the food or staff both were great. Gonna be awesome when they can get their own restaurant until then still gonna love coming back.

I ordered fajitas and they gave me instead of bell peppers and onions, jalapenos and onions and they got mad at me cuz I said I didn’t want it. I can’t eat nothing spicy and then try to charge me for it. But I told him I will not be back I’m never going back , last time they tried to steal my niece phone

Even though the staff were Mexican, these were the worst tacos we’ve ever had — total garbage! I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. And on top of that, the food took twice as long to prepare as they said!

Stopped in to the taqueria in the back of the market for lunch on a weekday. Fresh, made-as-you-order guacamole and delicious tacos. We had asada, pollo, and pastor. I plan to go back next time I’m in town!
Of note, you get more guacamole than is pictured. My husband and I started wolfing it down before I remembered to take a picture

The meats are great. Salsas, not so much. The menu is small, making a choice is easy. The Gringa is awesome.
