The poppadoms were tasty and came with a nice selection of condiments and sauces.
For mains, we ordered chicken biryani, chicken tikka masala, and salmon. Everything was very good, and we all enjoyed our meals.
The service was good overall. The only small downside was that after the food was served, no one came back to check if everything was okay.
Overall, I would recommend this place for an Indian curry night if you’re nearby.
Front of house staff were superb but the food took it to another level.
I travel lots throughout the UK and have to say this has been an absolute highlight for food and drinks night out.
Called in with my eldest son and he agreed that this was top level food.
If your passing please call, you won’t be disappointed.
We did not have a reservation but we were warmly welcomed and quickly shown to a table.
The menu was very different to our own local Indian restaurant menus so it was a great opportunity to try something a little different.
Both our meals were very generous portions, tasty and cooked to perfection!
When we are next in the area we will definitely be returning to Amran’s to try some of the other delicious dishes on offer.
Highly recommended!
Great menu, great food and first class service. The prices were very reasonable also.
The restaurant has very authentic decor and is spotlessly clean.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and it was well worth the detour into Berwick!
The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and portion size, didn’t take too long for our food to arrive and boy what a treat. Was absolutely amazing. One of the best Indian meals have eaten for a very long time. Will travel back just to have another meal here. And was particularly expensive either. 5 all the way for us
From the outside, the place looks entirely unremarkable. Glitter wallpaper, for example. Yet somehow, the food arrives and quietly proves that appearances are deceiving.
The samosas arrive with little sauces that do more than sit there politely. They improve the samosa, the table, and in some cases, your outlook on life. I have been known to nod appreciatively at a sauce and sigh, “Yes. Finally.”
The curries are generally clay-oven meat in perfectly balanced sauces. There’s something about clay-oven-cooked meat in a curry that makes it stand head and shoulders above the competition. Honestly, why wouldn’t you cook a curry like this? The sizzling dishes arrive… sizzling. Not “warm-ish,” not “mildly concerned,” but genuinely sizzling. I’ve considered bringing a fire extinguisher, but decided against it.
The staff? Energetic young lads who somehow manage to appear cheerful, efficient, and entirely unflappable. Watching them work is slightly intimidating, as if they’ve secretly memorised the entire spice alphabet.
Even the bill is unremarkable in a remarkable way. No confusion. No surprises. Just a polite acknowledgment that yes, you have eaten well, and yes, it was worth it.
Honestly, Amran’s punches well above its weight. The food is thoughtful, the flavours delicate but precise, and the atmosphere quietly buzzing. After five years of visits, I can safely say: I cannot fault this place. It’s the sort of restaurant that makes you suspicious of other restaurants. You leave wondering why everyone else is trying so hard when Amran’s has quietly been doing it perfectly all along.
Salmon dish was really nice .
Will go back again !!!
