Unexpected gem on our road trip through Virginia! Great coffee, iced tea & lemonade and great books to peruse, set in a beautiful old church!

A very quiet and small coffee shop. The drinks were alright, and it was interesting to look around.
The biggest problem was the lack of music, as even if it was barely noticeable, it would have made the place less eerily quiet.

I walked in to find a quaint and peaceful atmosphere. The kind where you can sit down and enjoy a drink or light snack and take a few moments to just breathe.

This is the kind of place I would love to spend a quiet afternoon, and one I have actively been recommending to my friends and coworkers.

The young woman working behind the counter was friendly and patient with me, being my first time there and having no idea about what to order. I asked for her input for a nice snack that could be eaten quickly and was recommended the peach muffins. 10/10 on the muffins, especially when warmed. I also got a strawberry banana smoothie to go with it, which was equally delicious. I think the cold smoothie and warm muffin actually went very well together.

Will definitely be visiting again.

I have been frequenting the original Appomattox Baines for years and was slightly worried this place might be a letdown after that. I was so wrong! The service was great and the coffee was every bit as yummy as the coffee in APX. The atmosphere is off-beat and cosy, and there is a growing selection of places to sit, including a small outside patio. Tons of easy street and lot parking. Come to study or fuel up before crossing the mountain or hitting the highway!

Really good coffee. I love the quiche, too. It’s always in stock. I recently got the panini and it was sooooo delicious. But, disappointing portion for a $10 sandwich. I’d pay $6.99 for it.

my mom lives down the mountain from me and this is a good meeting spot to spend a couple of hours together every week. every cashier/barista has always been so kind in the 3 years we’ve come here, but today was beyond exceptional. Kate was such a loving, thoughtful barista with plenty of helpful tips and conversation, and willing to accommodate whatever we needed. she was super helpful and bright spirited, and made a lasting impression. genuinely glad we came today and got served by her. this is a beloved spot for me and my mama, and will continue to be.

Fantastic addition to Amherst. I come back home to visit every couple of years. I was very pleased to find this during my recent stay. I wasn’t sure it existed at first, as it’s in the old Baptist church up on the hill behind Food Lion. The church is now a community center for local businesses. I drove past it the first time, and then saw the “coffee” neon sign on the side of the building. I went here every morning for a week. The server was so friendly, and she was on top of things as a barista. The food was also great, and cheap compared to some place like Starbucks. They even have excellent quiche and I don’t usually like quiche! I hope this coffee shop is hear to stay. If you’re in or near the area, I strongly suggest making this a regular stop.
